WEEK ONE AGAIN of www's six week 10year younger bootcamp, Feb/March 08

WideWebWitch · 24/02/2008 17:04

Welcome to week 1 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And as we've had half term and many of us have been lax, this thread is SERIOUS.

Ok so didn't walk to town took DS to the farm for a few hours. had chicken sandwick and fruit for lunch and beans on toast and fruit for tea. Was sick yesterday so didn't fancy much today off to do hands and feet etc.....have the factor 20 out to so all is good....

Hello to everyone. x

ChutneyMary · 25/02/2008 19:36

WWW,I was Dolly in a previous incarnation. Am enjoying my new name though. Did you walk from Euston to TCR today? IF you did, you may well have walked past my place of work. However, it was jolly cold today so perhaps not the day to embark on a new route.

L&S, alas my DH works for a tabloid so I am too ashamed to reveal which on here. Who do you work for, if you don't mind me asking?

Marina, the weightloss is very impressive but it's rotten losing weight through misery, esp when work related. Thinking of you and sending you coping vibes for the Disaster Recovery Plan.

Eve, hope you are feeling better today.

Good to see you Moonshine. I too need to draw on eyebrows, as I am very fair and look like a boiled egg without them. Even if I am just going out to the shops I put a little bit of brow on.

Welcome, boysontoast, how have you found day 1?

Batters are you feeling better?

Am windswept here. We only have half a roof and the tarpaulin on top is waving in the wind. But I've done 9800 steps, eaten loads of fruit, worn lots of cream and been happy. Bit short on the flexitol but i'll start again tonight.

DD had a rare accident atnursery today and, slack mummy that I am, I had omitted to replenish her spares bag, so she came home in a black mini dress with silver diamonds. She looked like a goth, and not a good one at that. Who buys this stuff and how does it end up in nursery? Presumably it's lost by some child. Never seen any of the girls dressed like it so perhaps it's vintage.

More later. Off ot put the M and S chicken thing and the baked pots into the oven. Have a good evening.

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2008 20:06

Welcome back feetheart, yes, white sugar is the enemy of youthful good looks apparently too so do come here and tell us how well you're doing at not eating it

eve34, having a dog is excellent, presumably it means you HAVE to walk every day does it (when his foot isn't bad)? Did you walk to cm?

Batters, yes, my sister gave birth at 4.30am this morning after SEVENTEEN HOURS, eww. All well, although they had to transfer to bigger hosp for forceps delivery but both are fine. It's a girl, NO DETAILS about weight or anything, how rubbish is her dp? But hoping to speak to sister later and see new baby at the weekend, aah! I'm glad you're feeling happy and that sounds not too off the rails I hope you're better soon.

Boysontoast, you're very welcome, six weeks will fly by and you may well feel a lot better at the end of it.

Cerys, hope he was knackered!

Moonshine and Cambridge but hey, needs must etc and I have Spanx, they're good! Satin hey, hmmm, not the most forgiving fabric but bet the Spanx help and well done on 2.5 dress sizes. Is it hell, The Cambridge? welcome back anyway.

Marina, I might have a BCP (Business Continuity Plan) template somewhere, do you want it if I find it? Sympathy on the work being shite...

Suzywong, thanks for sharing that, nice to see you here.

L&S, that sounds like a healthy day, well done on cyling too. My ds won the sweepstake as the labour went on into today, he was VERY pleased this morning!

Ah Eve, you didn't walk but that's healthy eating and well done on sunscreen. Posting here does stop some of us and the worst of our excesses

Ah Chutney, Dolly hey, welcome back in this incarnation, lol at boiled egg. I did indeed walk down Tottenham Ct Rd, do you work for Time Out? (wild guess as I think you're a journalist although could be wrong and I noticed their offices as I was walking)lol at goth child

MY 4yo dd has just shouted "mummy, get your big fat buttOCKS up here and read us a story" told to say it by 10yo ds I would imagine, cheeky girl so I will briefly tell you my day and then heave my enormous arse up there:

2 pieces toast, butter, Marmite
banana
apple
grapes
Pret salmon sandwich
half an M&S lamb cutlet thing
peas
carrots
2 dollops of mash (made by dh)
NO WINE for second night running, about time too
walked from Euston to Tott Ct Rd and it was LOVELY, sunny and emptyish and I really enjoyed it
and will be in bed by 10pm, had late night last night then then couldn't sleep due to no news about sister so prob only had 5 hours last night, I am KNACKERED

Well done everyone!

Lovely busy thread. Hello to new joiners & returners. Chutney - sorry but rofl at goth child!

10,600 steps plus an hour long family swim this afternoon. Quite a few lengths but not as many as DD2 (aged 3) in her floaty thing who just goes up and down the pool, laughing like a drain, and who doesn't stop until we scoop her out!

Have eaten cereal, apple juice, coffee, bacon sandwich made by DH , raw carrots, stir-fry beef, rice and lots of veg, rice pudding. Lots of water. And a handful of jelly beans post-swim.

I worked out roughly how much I had saved since giving up smoking 7 years ago. £14,819 would you believe. Not that I need an incentive to stay off them, I no longer get the urge to smoke. Thank goodness.

Horrible busy day tomorrow whilst DH is in town so urgh, I fear my sciatica will be baad.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 25/02/2008 20:44

WWW - congratulations on your new niece.

moonshine · 25/02/2008 21:04

Wow, this really is a very busy thread now. Still can't find that Cod and quiche thread - has it been deleted? Reading between the lines was it slagging off we who try to drink from the fountain of youth and health??

WWW - what has happened to the 100g granola? Have I really been away that long??? Cambridge is a mixture of hell (it is the most boring and anti-social diet in the world and I have had no alcohol since the 3rd Jan) and heaven in some ways (you know that each day you are thinner and can literally drop a dress size sometimes in two weeks or so. I know that I will put on many pounds instantly when I start eating as I will not be introducing food gradually but I have blanked that part from my mind atm).

L&S - I have been thinking about Benefit and might give them a whirl next week as a last attempt at being transformed, even if it's for one evening only . I live in hope....

Are there lots of tabloid journalists/those connected to them here then? My dh is a journo but with an institution let's say, and we know several who work in the tabloid world.

lol at boiled egg Chutney - I just look like I've been attacked by a tweezer madman.

By the way, No 7 'brightening' cream is crapola and a waste of money. I'm sure other products I've tried will come to me. I have done a lot of consumer research this year!

Have a good evening all.

Prufrock · 25/02/2008 21:30

Marina - I presume you mean kilo's, in which case well done, rather than thousands, in which case How? Where? Have you reported it? Hope work isn't as horrendous as you forsee. And have you opened that dvd yet woman.

Moonshine, are you anywhere near a Space NK? They sell lots of different brands, and all of them gorgeous.

Congratulations AuntieWWW. Is other sister speaking to this sister or not? Any chance this could build bridges or are you both happy iwth situation

Get a job? wtf?

Chutney, I have 30G norks and manage to exercise with a berlei shock absorber bra. Admittedly I don't run, but that's because of knees rather than bouncing bosoms - it really does strap them down

Hope you are feeling better batters. Lots of Orange juice for the vitamin C.

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2008 21:46

Damn, Moonshine, I started to post that I think Body Shop glow enhancer is fab and accidentally closed the window!

DofN, your dd2 sounds adorable, what a lovely description of her.

WELL, Prufrock, Sister #2 (one I wasn't speaking to) called me while Sister #3 was in labour and said "we can't not speak while she's in labour!" so we've made it up. (I am oldest, so sister #1 I think!) I just spoke to sister with newborn who sounds very blissed out, can't wait to get my hands on that baby on Saturday! She was 6lb 14oz and it was 14 hours, just sent sister this card bet this link doesn't work if it doesn't will find another picture of it.

I was robbed of tiny baybee thing with dd as she was 9lb 8oz so never a teeny tiny baby so I am looking forward to it.

I look better already for day 2 of no booze, some walking and happiness

yoyo · 25/02/2008 21:48

Have just read through all of this and it has made me smile to see familiar names. Having moved house and strated work I have had a long(ish) break from the MN world. In many ways the break has been good but I have missed this thread. The stresses of the past months have taken their toll and I lost a lot of weight, then gained it again, stopped exercising and have gradually lost sight of the me I was. So, I am signing up for the six weeks. So far I am ticking quite a few boxes but must remain focussed and tick the rest.

Am now going to have a glass of water and slather on some hand cream.

WWW - congrats on bcoming an aunt. Did you ever buy the house (seem to recall a search for one early last summer)?

Marina - what is happening at work?

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2008 21:50

Damn, link didn't work, it says

"It took at least 8 gruelling hours of sweat-soaked straining and discomfort to bring each of my children into this world.

And that was just the sex."

OP posts:
WideWebWitch · 25/02/2008 21:51

Welcome back yoyo! We've been terrible, Muriel but are all vowing to be better this week!

No, didn't buy house, it was flooded and we decided not a good idea and it's STILL on market, more than six months later. We're hanging on now.

OP posts:
Prufrock · 25/02/2008 21:52

Sunscreen. Tick
No booze. Tick
2l Water. Tick - I?m measuring it out in the morning now in 2 gym bottles and it?s really helping me remember.
Body cream. Tick
Hand cream. Tick
Foot cream. Tick
Bed early. About to go up but will watch last weeks ER in bed so probably not.
Exercise Walked the dogs to school this am and back through the fields, which is an hours round trip. Then I did 20 minutes cardio, and 100 situps, and 5 sun salutations. And then I decided to half run/half walk to pick up ds from pre-school rather than take the car. And of course I had to walk back, but that doesn?t count as exercise as we took 30 minutes to do what had taken me 7 on the way there!

WideWebWitch · 25/02/2008 21:52

Bjut yoyo, sorry you had a stressful time. I think some of us on this thread are beginning to recognise that bootcamp helps us feel better physically when life is stressful, with the odd gigantic drop off the wagon for the likes of me

OP posts:
Prufrock · 25/02/2008 21:53

Eat healthily Granola and skimmed milk for breakfast, 2 cups coffee, small portion leftover shepherds pie and 1 pitta and guacamole for lunch. Nectarine, cup of lemon and ginger tea. Chicken breast with talleggio, garlic, sun dried tomato and basil topping, green beans with mustard seed and mushrooms for dinner, peppermint tea
Be happy Relatively. Had horrible shopping trip after school (new car seat, then a few groceries from Asda, just because it was next door, but it?s horrid. I might be a food ponce but Waitrose is sooooooo much nicer. I had to wait 15 minutes for anybody to actually serve me on the fish counter, and then they said they weren?t trained to skin it so I?ll have to do that myself tomorrow.

And no there areno truffles left in the house of pru.

unknownrebelbang · 25/02/2008 22:08

Good evening everyone, new and old. What a busy thread!

Congrats AuntieWWW. How lovely that you and t'other sister have made up too. I don't do little babies - they scare me (8 lb+ and two 10lb+).

I knew YOU LOT would know....just wanted to make sure the lurkers knew .
Paranoid? Moi?? hehe.

Hope DS1 is better Duchess.

And I hope you're feeling better Batters. I've had this recurring cold/cough for at least three weeks now and it's a pita. It's not bad enough to go to the GPs, but it's taking its toll.

Positive vibes Marina.

unknownrebelbang · 25/02/2008 22:14

Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter

  • No booze
  • Almost 30 mins exercise bike. YAY.
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember.
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, No.
  • Go to bed early, well after my marathon sleepin, went to bed at 9 to watch the TV, got sucked into watching Sweet Home Alhabama and then got up at midnight for an hour . Did sleep ok after that and felt more rested this morning.
  • Eat healthily. soso.
  • Be happy. Not bad for a Monday.

DS2+DS3 had school photos done today and the one of them both together is cute. Don't think DH's will be quite so cute, hehe (his will go on the staff/governor board in the reception area).

kidsrus · 25/02/2008 23:16

Batters, lol at the idea of wearing the same clothes as dd

Marina, sorry about work & well done on the weight loss

WWW, congratulations on the new arrival... how lovely

I really, really need to get back on line at home as I never have time to post/catch up with you all. I am with you all in spirit though and am glad I can't be arsed/haven't got the time to look for a thread about cliques

This week is the restart I really need

yoyo · 26/02/2008 16:12

Hello everyone. It really is good to be back on this thread. I dug out the Moron from DH's sock drawer this morning but needs new batteries so will have to wait. Have resisted all choc and biscuits and have been very good so far (cereal and soda bread, an apple, bean soup, banana). Chicken casserole lined up for supper and an early night with my book after writing some letters (actually easier than trying to get everyone else off the computer!).

Batters and Winnie - how are things? I have far too much to catch up on and not enough time to read loads of posts. DD1 would forbid me from leaving the house if we dressed in the same clothes. I mentioned buying some converse and got THE LOOK!

LoveAndSqualor · 26/02/2008 16:28

Hello, one and all! we are now legion. Perhaps we should take advantage of our numbers and band together and do something - invade a small country, perhaps? maybe just the odd Scottish island? Just me? OK.

WWW congrats to your sister (and you!). And on mending rift with other sister, that sounds like good news.

Chutney, nothing wrong with working for a tabloid! lots of the best journos do ... I am actually at the other end of the spectrum though - think right-on, sandal-wearing, poor spelling publication. I work in the books bit, though, so not a true reporter-journo. Much waftier

Prufrock, your kilos/thousands thing made me snort my peppermint tea. I (and my keyboard) thank you

Medium day - feeling ster-ressed out with maternity leave countdown (too much to do!) - saw the chiropractor this morning, though, which helped with back. Ate a delicious beef burger for lunch (left the chips - I only ever have room for half a meal these days!), drunk lots of water and am now casting around for the apple I know I brought into work ...

feetheart · 26/02/2008 17:31

Congrats to AuntieWWW - I do love a newborn but not enough to have another one

Have got off to an OK start though need to work harder at suncream (managed to remember mid-afternoon both days so far!) and water (always hard)
Haven't had a sugar-fest for nearly 2 days which is good but haven't been completely abstinent either. Feeling better for it already though.
Had to walk to school and back 3 times today as DD had an eye test so Moron up to 8500. Need to dance around with the children to get it up to 10,000 - it was SO much easier doing the (much longer) walk to pre-school

moonshine · 26/02/2008 17:38

Reporting in (I'll gloss over the whole food and diet issue atm, although am enjoying being temporarily slimmer).

  • Sunscreen, check. But I do think my failure here is that I don't reapply it during the day, a habit I want to try and get into before (if?) the sun really hots up.
  • Lots of water; have to on the diet.
  • Walked loads today. I must also put a battery back in my Moron and reprogramme it again - found it really motivated me last time. Can't wait until Friday week when I shall start going to the gym again.
  • body cream, check.

Congratulations to Auntie WWW and your sister - my babies were never really 'small' either (ds was a 10lber!).

Prufock, I'm not really near a Space NK but must admit to being rather intimidated by it and the uber-expensive stuff. I did once buy some Laura Mercier blusher and lipstick and have hankered after some other things but I am spending so much money on me atm I'm feeling slightly guilty about the whole 'preening' myself.

On sayign that, I think I will go to the Benefit counter tomorrow. I already have dr feelgood which I think is fab and an under-eye concealer which I do find covers well but does settle into my wrinkles - might try mixing it with moisturiser next time.

I am also having my very first professional manicure on Friday - am very excited .

Of course my life is also full of intellectual enlightenment and growth, honest (well I do like a fiendish Sudoku...)

Iota · 26/02/2008 17:40

Congrats to you and your sister WWW

Went to the gym yesterday and foods shopping today - I'm sure man-handling a full trolley and lugging heavy bags about must count as a workout.

Have been a bit slack on the lotions/creams and drinking water fronts - but have a big glass of water on the go at the mo.

I have a 3 mth deadline to get in shape as have just given notice on my gym membership - I can't be in the gym if I am at work, can I?

unknownrebelbang · 26/02/2008 19:22
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 20 mins exercise bike.
  • Lots of weak tea
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember.
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, No.
  • Go to bed early, Stupid O'clock, but Hotel Babylon tonight, so in bed for nine!
  • Eat healthily. The chocolate raisins just jumped into my trolley yer'onour... And it was the errand of mercy for FIL that dragged me into Tesco in the first place, honest, yer'onour.
  • Be happy. Chocolate raisins. Max Beasley. What more could a girl want?
