WEEK ONE AGAIN of www's six week 10year younger bootcamp, Feb/March 08

Welcome to week 1 of the second WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2008. Hello everyone.

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a result. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even though it's winter
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

And as we've had half term and many of us have been lax, this thread is SERIOUS.

Hello! last day in office, about to embark on cake and fizz ... just waiting to leave now really!

It's a funny thing about the knowing/not knowing about what Life With Child will be like - I am aware in a technical sense that there will be no sleep and I will be knackered, but tbh it just doesn't mean anything yet ... I guess the best I can say is that I have no illusions - am expecting the beginning bit to be beyond hellish, so hoping the good stuff will come as a pleasant surprise! So very good to have MN, though - would've gone a bit loopy otherwise, with no one really to talk it all over with ... so reassuring to hear from you that I'm normal!

I think I am going to play the last day card and draw and enormous, hippo-sized veil over today's food and drink. Am feeling distinctly lumpish in these final weeks of up-duff-ness, and really REALLY looking forward to not being pregnant any more!

Must go, as I think the cake is about to hove into view - have great weekends!

Lulumama · 29/02/2008 16:35

ok

forgot sunscreen, but did moistrise and wear foundation

had one glass of wine last night! oops

flexitol on feet, coconut oil on other scaly bits

water - had some broth and some water, 2 cups of tea

bit of a walk, too windy and rainy

ate a green apple and a bag of mange tout

am making roast chicken dinner, with wedges, greens, broccoli, sugar snap peas , carrots

Iota · 29/02/2008 16:40

this week has not been a good one for me - have been sabotaged by dh ( wine last night) and seduced by coffee and cake today. Tut Tut.

But at leas I am maintaining the status quo re weight, not putting it on.

And this weekend is Mothers Day, so another excuse to fall off the wagon again.

I am such a slacker

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/02/2008 19:41

I'm flagging again now, DD1 had a friend home after school. Her friends seem to need a lot of adult attention which is alien to me because my kids just disappear and make their own fun. I only intervene if there is loud screaming or total silence. Or blood.

Just over 8000 steps and none of the aerobic variety but I have carried lots of hay bales around and mucked out.

Have eaten toasted Hot Cross Bun, orange juice & iron, ham & avocado salad, breadsticks, raw carrot (which is taking on the mantle of '100g granola'!!!), more breadsticks, prawns, salad, boiled new potatoes and a large bowl of strawberries, blackberries & blueberries smothered in cream - again not fruit I usually eat at this time of year but was bought for DD1s fussy friend lovely guest.

I will now go and fall asleep in front of the drawing room fire. Bloody Shell still haven't delivered the gas and it is very, very, cold.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 29/02/2008 19:52

L&S - a lot depends on how you feel post-birth and on the sort of baby you get, it it sleeps all day you will be bored rigid. If it cries when you put it down or it isn't feeding well then it's unbelievably tiring. What people should say when they go on about 'Oh your life will never be the same' is that you will never finish a coffee or a phone call again until the child starts school. Enjoy your mat leave!

cerys - well done on the run and good luck for Sunday, the weather is supposed to be foul but at least you won't suffer from heat exhaustion...!

iota - maintaining status quo is OK

lulu - you're right about it being too wet & windy. It's been horrible here all day.

WideWebWitch · 29/02/2008 21:05

Hello all

Prufrock congrats on the bonus and we understand about not bootcamping next week

Batters, yes, was 4 years ago, in something like June 2004, so a bit less actually, blimey doesn't time fly? Don't worry about Torchwood, she'll be fine, if it's any consolation dd, who is 4, has watched: Primeval; Stormbreaker; Prehistoric park; and I stupidly took ds to see King Kong when he was 8 or something and he had nightmares about those weird natives for weeks. Sympathy though, I know the feeling

Yoyo, but bootcamp made you think about it, no? So that's a good thing. I love roast chicken

Yes batters, I reckon you're missing something by not counting indoor steps, thqt must be loads!

Cerys, aah at welsh assembly

Hello everyone.

Welsh Assembly sounds lovely Cerys. Not something I ever thought I'd say, lol. Good luck on Sunday.

I liked Portugal Saggars, though it is about 17 years since we went...

Enjoy the last couple of weeks before baby arrives L&S - I had DS1 three weeks early. Our practice nurse once described the first few years of parenthood as "being in a fug", and I found that v accurate. Those first few weeks can be bl**dy wonderful and terrifying all at the same time.

Saggars, did you enjoy the Chinese? It wasn't the one with the chocolate fountain was it???

unknownrebelbang · 29/02/2008 22:28
  • Sunscreen yy
  • No booze
  • 45 mins exercise bike.
  • Lots of weak tea/water
  • Apply body cream - will try to remember.
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, yes.
  • Go to bed early, 8pm, dozing by 9.30! Feel much better today.
  • Eat healthily. Not brilliant. Out for tea, chose chicken but had lurvely apple/blackberry crumble for desert, although did leave the custard.
  • Be happy. Bit of a mix today.

Having re-arranged my working day, planned on spending the morning with DH he's got manflu and spent it in bed. Still went into work late (because of a meeting) only we had a couple of crises at work, so no meeting and I ended up working late but did sweet FA (of my own stuff) and was therefore late for planned meal with former colleagues/friends.

On the upside, due to said crises managed to speak to another former colleague who I haven't spoken to for years which was lovely (crisis aside), and it was great catching up with my friends.

WideWebWitch · 01/03/2008 04:16

that;s good on happiness front unknown, although sorry about the work

I had a horrible evening, came in to children fighting, we had a takeaway, fighting continued, I shouted a lot, they went to bed crying, I stalked round the block for a walk and came back to find dh in bed. Went to bed with him, had a row, went to sleep about 9.30and now can't sleep. I am on a hair trigger by Friday night, the children weren't that difficult but I couldn't deal with it in a reasonable way. Poor them and poor dh really, I was horrible. And I can't not work because we really can't eat if I don't and I've looked and looked nearer home and nothing has come up. I suggested dh give up work (you know, I hissed it, you can imagine I'm sure) as we could live withut his salary but that doesn't solve my commute. 4 hours a day is unbearable, I'm all done in by Friday, I ache all over and I am exhausted. The job is ok, absolutely, I'm not really terribly stressed by that bit but the commute. I told dh I wanted him to get up at 5.45am today and do it becase until he does he just will not appreciate what I do every day. Anyway, whinge whine, thanks for listening.

Bad day bootcamp wise too although not much wine because I went to bed so early so that's somethnig

toast x2
egg sandwich
crsps
2 lemon bakewells
2 angel slices
loads of Haribo
tandoori chicken

hello - not really here, writing an essay but just wanted to give www a manly pat on the shoulder and a sympathetic nod. Sorry you're having a crap time. Don't have anything constructive to add, just sympathy. Have a bag of wotsits?

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/03/2008 09:41

Cripes www 4 hours a day commute is grim. Not surprised you've had enough by Friday. Hope you feel calmer this morning.

rebel - yes the chocolate fountain one I will post of my sins shortly. It's 21 years since we went to Portugal (our last holiday before children) They were still building it then! The flights were surprisingly cheap (the Maddy efect maybe).

Sunscreen -no
Booze - er too much
Water - I did have a glass or too between drinks last night
No exercise- Lots of weak tea/water
Apply body cream - Yes
Hand cream/foot cream - yes
Go to bed early - no
Eat healthily - no - all you can eat Chinese buffet did for that. But I did have fresh fruit with the chocolate fountain .
Be happy - bit stressed re dd's health.

The half a stone a want to lose is really more like a whole stone so I have to get a grip. Please speak to me sternly.

moonshine · 01/03/2008 09:49

Poor you WWW. I wish I could be the wise sage who had the answers for you. Kids always fight whatever though don't they? (Mine do anyway whether I'm working or not). And I know I often reach that 'can't cope with their behaviour point' many times in a week. Not disputing you need to work but that commute really does not sound worth it, despite it being a good job. Easy for me to say though I know. I've been working really long hours for nearly 3 weeks and feel like a crap mum (they are always asking me pointedly if they will see me tomorrow), and it's made me realise that I couldn't do it long-term. But step away from the wotsits!!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 01/03/2008 10:06

WWW - no answers here either other than keep looking for something nearer home. And try and have a calm and relaxing weekend, the Easter break isn't that far away so there is another short respite coming. Brisk walk to clear your head was a good plan, long ambles when the sun is shining are even better.

WideWebWitch · 01/03/2008 10:16

Thanks for the sympathy. Dh gave me a lie in this morning and we have all made up, I apologised to the children and dh and we're all friends again. There might be a contract nearer Euston, I'm meeting some people on Thurs and if that happens then it gets my commute down to 15 mins drive + 43 mins train + 6 minutes tube or 15 mins walk. So an hour ish, maybe 1 hr 10. Lifechanging, anyway compared to 2 hours each way. If that doesn't work out I think my current must contract either give me 1 day from home IMMEDIATELY + at LEAST an hour allowed working remotely, ie. on train or once I get hmoe or I leave so I get home at a reasonable time. If some of that 4 hours counted towards working time it would help. I know they don't want me to go so I suspect I'll get what I want, esp as my contract ends at the end of April and they want me to extend to June/July/longer. I'm on 2 weeks notice if I get something else so that would be bearable too.

Still knackered but yes, the easter break isn't far away, thank goodness. Feel happier this morning anyway. Sorry for boring with my tedious problems, I do realise this thread isn't all about me.

LoveAndSqualor · 01/03/2008 11:04

Hey, www, just shooting by on way to shops, but wanted to say, I think it is beyond reasonable for you to tell your work you need to work a day from home and do some of your stuff remotely. You can ask without prejudice anyway (legally) and I'd be shocked if they didn't agree (though perhaps I'm spoilt working for touchy-feely work-life-balance company).

But they obviously value you very highly, and it's such a sensible request that I'm sure they'll go for it. Really good luck, and enjoy the commute-free weekend

WideWebWitch · 01/03/2008 11:05

Thanks L&S, I'm a contractor on 2 weeks notice and 4 months of the way through a six month contract so they give me it or I leave tbh.

Have a good day!

Glad you're feeling better www. I have been so rubbish, and am having a horrible time atm, with family (my parents and dh's mum), and usual work stuff rumbling on. So have been very bad on the bootcamping, but (as I always say) am resolved to do better. The sunnier weather is going to inspire me, because I really don't want to be fat in the summer!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 02/03/2008 16:10

I'm so glad you enjoyed the weekend WWW.

Negligible exercise this weekend but old friend and godfather to all DCs has been staying so lots of chatting and watching him play football with the children etc.

Yesterday ate multigrain cereal, salami, salad & bread, pizza and homemade toffee popcorn.

Today have eaten 2 x toast & marmite, some white chocolate & champagne truffles (Mothers Day presents), roast chicken, roast potatoes, stuffing, carrots, peas, purple sprouting & leeks, apple & blackberry crumble & cream and will finish the salami/braesola etc & salad & foccacia for supper.

Have drunk lots and lots of water this weekend in order to keep company with DH & friend downing endless beers & wine!

Good on happiness & creams. Feet need some work though. Mothers Day presents included a jar of Crabtree & Evelyn Body Scrub which has the same ingredients as recommended by SuzyWong earlier in this thread - I'll let you know what it's like when I get round to using it.
