Hide back in this dress? Or do I give up!.

This dress looks amazing from the front, I adore it. But sadly the back is AWFUL. I've pulled the fabric together to close the back gap but then it hangs dreadfully. What could I do (aside from lose the weight!) to hide this? I thought about some of the skin fabric used in tights but I think that fabric might look weird as I can't have it soon tight due to the rolls it will show. I can just about cope with the bra line 😔

It's quite an unusual fabric so hard to match. Ideas please!!

Try pinning it together?

Littlemissprosecco · 30/06/2023 13:10

To close the gap

Littlemissprosecco · 30/06/2023 13:11

You might need to put a dart in, if it doesn’t lift the hemline too much

bookish83 · 30/06/2023 13:12

I think I would leave the dress as honestly the back is an awful fit

I say that as someone who would have the same issue!

PepeParapluie · 30/06/2023 13:13

What about putting in a lace or crochet type fabric in the gap so you make a sort of feature of it but it’s not too heavy as the fabric looks quite summery and light?

MargotDeWitt · 30/06/2023 13:13

What does it look like from the front?

BumWad · 30/06/2023 13:14

Give the dress back, the back is just as important as the front

I hate the current trend of pieces cut out of dresses, it does me no favours either ☹️

Stratocumulus · 30/06/2023 13:15

Unless you are very clever with a needle, (and can afford it) I’d find a local alterations person and get something done properly.

PrincessofWellies · 30/06/2023 13:16

It needs a thicker channel for wide elastic, then it would sit better. Tbh it looks badly made, like a lot of things, it's made for a slim person and they just scale up instead of thinking how the fabric will sit on a larger body and redrafting the pattern accordingly.

Rishisrightfoot · 30/06/2023 13:18

It doesn’t look amazing from the back and that’s nothing to do with you so struggling to see how it can be amazing from the front. I’d get a different dress and send this to charity. I don’t think it would be flattering on anyone.

Alsobeyondshit · 30/06/2023 13:20

Filling the gap is not going to look nice... Send it back op it is not a nice dress!

Agree, judging how badly made and cheap it looks at the back I’m amazed it can look great at the front. From what I can see in the pictures it does you no favours at all anywhere.

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2023 13:27

Get a different dress

quikquiknamechange · 30/06/2023 13:30

Sorry OP but get a different dress.

I've had this a few times where I like the look of something but the back is awful or I can't wear a bra or whatever and I've struggled on but now I accept that if something requires that much intervention then it's never going to look right.

CosmosQueen · 30/06/2023 13:31

It honestly looks so badly fitted with cheap fabric that I would find something else to wear. Messing around trying to improve it isn’t likely to work.

Anoisagusaris · 30/06/2023 13:32

Get a different dress . Lots of options out there

SBHon · 30/06/2023 13:34

You can do so much better. Send the dress back.

babyproblems · 30/06/2023 13:37

Either get rid of it or wear it with a loose shirt over the top. It looks really poorly made from the photo and it’s that sort of ‘cut out’ style that looks awful on most people as it’s the fit/quality of fast fashion brands. You’d have to lift the skirt up so much to close the gap I think it’s not doable

iknowimcoming · 30/06/2023 13:39

The only thing that might work is getting it in a bigger size imo - that way you'd have more fabric to play with to close the gap iyswim?

Dotandtime · 30/06/2023 13:40

I don't think the dress is special enough to be even contemplating this. Find another one.

jojo2202 · 30/06/2023 13:42

i just wouldn't wear it

Keepitonthelow · 30/06/2023 13:43

Get a dress with a back! It’s not worth fiddling around with it.

mrsm43s · 30/06/2023 13:50

Apart from the design not really suiting you at the back, I also don't think it fits you properly? It looks like the bottom elastic bit is too big and the skirt droops?

I don't think it's the dress for you - sorry.

Diddykong · 30/06/2023 13:53

I'd wear a bright coloured t shirt underneath but then I hate my shoulders out in the sun anyway.
