Hide back in this dress? Or do I give up!.

This dress looks amazing from the front, I adore it. But sadly the back is AWFUL. I've pulled the fabric together to close the back gap but then it hangs dreadfully. What could I do (aside from lose the weight!) to hide this? I thought about some of the skin fabric used in tights but I think that fabric might look weird as I can't have it soon tight due to the rolls it will show. I can just about cope with the bra line 😔

It's quite an unusual fabric so hard to match. Ideas please!!

That dress is honestly not a great fit anywhere. U can get much more flattering dresses than that, def return it.

BatFack · 30/06/2023 13:57

Thankyou for the kind words about the dress being the issue not me 😆 I only have this screengrab of the front from a moving video and I've not styled the frills properly outwards. I've worked out if I take my bra off and wonderweb some cups in I can lose the bra lines. I briefly hooked the middle up, if I did this with care it may work or I can wear under a jacket 😆

Foolishly kept it last year to slim in to, but it's not too small now and even when I lose another 5 stone I think I'm always gonna have a big back.

It's actually lined and quite thick cotton but only from New Look. I didn't realise they still stock it, this is how it supposed to look...

I think we need to see the amazing front but even with an open cardigan, when you move, people will still see the sides. You need to gesticulate and move around in the mirror to see the full picture. I am the same shape as you, I hasten to add!

kissthegirlshesnotbehindthedoor · 30/06/2023 14:01

I think you can do better, to be honest.

Have a look at nobody's child?

Auntieobem · 30/06/2023 14:02

Sorry, but the front doesn't make up for the back. It's not a flattering dress.

QueenOfThorns · 30/06/2023 14:02

Sorry OP, I don’t think the front’s great, either. It looks a bit like a Victorian nightie Sad

BatFack · 30/06/2023 14:03

In light of it still being sold, I think an exchange for a credit note may be worthwhile 🙂

F1ymetothetoon · 30/06/2023 14:05

Would they give a credit note if you bought it last year?

PortiaWithNoBreaks · 30/06/2023 14:05

i think you’d be able to find a more flattering and better fitting dress. The cut out back is a feature and it’s really not going to work for you if you try to alter it.

you could sell it on Vinted?

eurochick · 30/06/2023 14:06

The back is awful and the front ain't great! Send it back.

Kingsparkle · 30/06/2023 14:09

Sorry OP we are a similar shape and I think take it back too. I’ve had some success with M&S lately which is something I never thought I’d say.

JaneJeffer · 30/06/2023 14:11

New Look have this one with a back

Ooh that's much nicer!

Kingsparkle · 30/06/2023 14:13

Ooo I might get that second one for myself!

determinedtomakethiswork · 30/06/2023 14:25

You can get a much nicer dress than this. It's very unforgiving.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/06/2023 14:34

I’m surprised they’d give you a credit note. If they don’t, please forgive yourself for buying it. I’ve so many clothes that don’t fit.

BatFack · 30/06/2023 14:44

Thanks JaneJeffer, great spot 😀

Can I just say well done for your weight loss! It was too small for you last year, but it's too big for you this year - that's a pretty big achievement! I think you deserve to treat yourself to a new dress to celebrate!

Lobelia123 · 30/06/2023 14:45

Try wearing a vest or camisole underneath - it may disguise the fit a bit.

WhatWillIWear · 30/06/2023 14:51

The original dress does look very cheaply put together, @BatFack. Really not worth further thought or energy. Loads of better dresses around.

FabFitFifties · 30/06/2023 15:03

If you can't get a credit note, I think you could get away with a shirt/jacket/cardi over it. I think it looks like a nightdress though. Well done on your weight loss. You might benefit from a session with a personal shopper to learn how to dress the new you?

cocksstrideintheevening · 30/06/2023 15:12

It's not a good look op, can you stick it on Vinted and buy something else?

1983Louise · 30/06/2023 15:36

It's definitely doing you no favours, it doesn't fit you and the colour/fabric is horrible. You need something with colour, this looks like a cheap dishcloth.

lovemelongtime · 30/06/2023 15:38

Ditch the dress. To be honest the fabric looks a bit sack like on the back so don't think it would look great even if the gap wasn't there.
Sorry, but there's loads of other dresses I'm sure you could look great it.

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/06/2023 15:42

I wouldn't expect to be given a credit OP just FYI - the product may well look the same but it will have a different code and the codes on the label more than likely will show what season and year the item came from. Even if they somehow made an exception it would be at the current selling price which - given it is old stock will be a clearance price regardless of who sells it elsewhere or if the same style has been reissued for a new season. Regardless I think the days of credit notes are long gone unless you have proof of purchase from within 28 days. I'd certainly not waste a journey to a store with it and would call first if anything.

I'd just chalk it up to experience, put it on ebay/vinted or give to charity and buy something better. It doesn't look a good quality or fit and whilst that is no reflection on you at all it doesn't change the fact. It doesn't even look that great on the ASOS model frankly and that's styled in studio lighting.
