Hide back in this dress? Or do I give up!.

This dress looks amazing from the front, I adore it. But sadly the back is AWFUL. I've pulled the fabric together to close the back gap but then it hangs dreadfully. What could I do (aside from lose the weight!) to hide this? I thought about some of the skin fabric used in tights but I think that fabric might look weird as I can't have it soon tight due to the rolls it will show. I can just about cope with the bra line 😔

It's quite an unusual fabric so hard to match. Ideas please!!

Glad you've seen sense OP - it's not great from the front or back - there are so many other dresses that will suit you better.

New Look have this one with a back

This one is much nicer.

OP, I think your dress is only really going to flatter an extremely fit 23-or-under year old.

JaneJeffer’s one is much more flattering for most people & you’d look lovely in it.

AHugeTinyMistake · 30/06/2023 17:57

Buy a different dress

We've all been there

It's perfect except for <major issue>

Anything you do to try and rectify it will look amateurish or make it sit weirdly. You will feel self conscious.

Ooh that's much nicer!

It's a gazillion times nicer.

When you buy foundation do you buy the warm or neutral colour? If you buy the warm colour can you please try on a dress in a cream or ivory colour - or a yellow toned colour like autumn colours as I think that might suit your skin better.

Coronationstation · 30/06/2023 20:10

Put it on Vinted and buy yourself something flattering that fits properly

NinjaTurtIe · 30/06/2023 20:30

This is why people ask for pics on here because your idea of amazing front is most of MNers idea of not that great. It looks like a crumbled cotton nightie that you rolled and sweated in all night. The crisp white dress look in this style suits a different body, someone tall, skinny with boobs no bigger than a B cup.

NinjaTurtIe · 30/06/2023 20:31

Also this shade of white suits someone tanned with olive skin and doesn't suit your tone which has lots of red and pink. Try a pastel dress, maybe pastel blue or lemony beige.

I don't like the back fit even in the model photo. 😂The waist on the skirt is done with a simple elastic. So yeah definitely it is the dress.😅it looks like if I fold a curtain and saw a simple hem introducing an elastic thread inside it. Not for my taste.

SleepingStandingUp · 30/06/2023 22:24

Sorry OP I'd cut your losses. I see why you like it, but it just doesn't seem yo fall in you how it does the model. And it's worse with thr back pinned up.

Schoolchoicesucks · 01/07/2023 13:59

Yes it looks nice from the front but not nice enough to make up for the back. Exchange it or sell it on Vinted and get something else.

Niftythrifter · 01/07/2023 14:56

If you don’t want to get rid could you maybe get the top chopped off and turn it in to a skirt for the hotter months?

Lucy377 · 01/07/2023 15:38

Yes cut your losses and buy something else. The fabric looks thin and flimsy too. Sorry!
You have a lovely figure I'm sure you'll find something.

Doone21 · 05/07/2023 04:38

Tight lace bodysuit in contrasting colour underneath?

I'm sure you've made your decision by now OP but this was my thought exactly. When I was younger (not now!) I had the type of figure that this style of dress would have suited. My mother would have banned me from wearing this because it's so poorly made! First year of secondary school sewing class. You can definitely do much better 🤗

Whatsun · 05/07/2023 12:51

I think you can only salvage that with a cardigan or something similar to hide the back.

AC2022 · 05/07/2023 13:02

@BatFack I think it looks good from the front. I can see why you want to adapt it.

I’ve has issues in the past with the length of dresses, they look great but too short to cover my rugby player’s knees. I’ve solved the issue by buying two dresses and using the material from one to resolve the issue with the other. It doesn’t have to be the same size dress just one that will match the fabric. You could then get away with a gusset (awful word!) at the back. I agree on finding a decent seamstress for the endeavour.
