What do you think of this dress?

I tried this dress on the other day but didn’t buy it because a) not sure it suits me really, I think I mainly like the idea of spoiling myself (it’s around £100 which is way over my usual price point), and b) even if it does look ok on me I have no idea on what occasion I could wear it.

I spent years with an abusive exH who wouldn’t allow me access to my own wages so despite having a lovely new uncunty DH I’m still getting my head around the fact that I can spend more than £20 on a piece of clothing which I think might be swaying my judgement about this one. It’s also a style exH would have absolutely hated which also gives me a “fuck you!!” glow but I know that’s not really a good reason to buy something I look crap in! Honest opinions welcome to help me find my style feet 🙂

It fits you nicely. It's a keeper.

Blueberrycreampie · 27/06/2023 23:25

My honest opinion is that for the money you could get a much nicer one! Sorry to hear about your abusive ex. You deserve a better dress imo!

bluejelly · 27/06/2023 23:26

I really like it! Really suits you and looks very on trend. And well done on leaving your ex, I know it's not easy, but so, so worth it...

EllaRaines · 27/06/2023 23:27

Sorry, the dress is 'Aunt Maud, spinster age 87'.

You look like you have a nice figure hiding under those drapes of a dress!

Aunt Maud is very this season.

How do you feel in it? Do you love it?

I suspect there is a more flattering dress out there for you.

Can you think of 3 occasions when you would wear it?

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 27/06/2023 23:34

I have no idea what occasions the dress would suit. Tbh the photo doesn’t quite do it justice but it’s so far away from my usual look that I think that’s what’s making me feel good in it, as opposed to it being the best style for me I suppose. Just wanted to know if I look ridiculous in it!

I think you look lovely in it. But are you able to link the website? It's hard to see the colour on your photo.

KnickerlessParsons · 27/06/2023 23:38

It's ok, but it doesn't look as if it cost £100. It's a bit drab tbh. You could find something nicer.

TreesandFish · 27/06/2023 23:41

What's the fabric composition? Unless it's silk, I think you can find better for that price

it’s from All Saints but one of their outlet shops so I can’t seem to find it online. It’s kind of a dark forest green colour irl.

I’m not sure what the fabric is, cotton I think? I’m pretty top heavy so to find a dress that fits round my bust without being made of jersey or similar stretchy material is like gold dust which again I think is unduly influencing me slightly.

If you like it, get it. You deserve it. I don't think it needs an occasion really, I wear loose dresses like that as daywear when it's hot. This dress is quite versatile in that respect, it'll look good at a barbecue or a fancy do but you wouldn't be overdressed to go to the supermarket.

swedishgirl · 28/06/2023 00:00

Dark forest green is lovely. I really like it and think you should treat yourself. It seems like the sort of dress you could wear any season (with the right layers/shoes) and can be dressed up or down. Go for it!

Marchintospring · 28/06/2023 00:01

You have cracking norks but the dress isn’t making the most of them. The draw strung round the waist makes it look like …they are round your waist. And the dress has too much bag after that.
Rounder or squarer cut, tighter through the waist to hip maybe.

DebussytoaDiscoBeat · 28/06/2023 00:07

Thanks for all the comments so far, I really do appreciate everyone’s opinions. I’m perfectly ok with the “you could find a nicer dress” type comments, tbh I was expecting more “gawd no that looks awful on you” so I’m reassured that whilst it might not be to everyone’s taste I won’t look silly as such.

Cracking norks 😂 thank you! They’re the bane of my bloody life, tbf at my age they are pretty much round my waist!

Its not to my taste, but you won't look silly and this type of dress is very trendy at the moment....
I myself don't like tiers and puff sleeves.

If you like it get it adjusted as Marchintospring suggests

If it's this dress then it's 85% Lyocell (TENCEL) and 15% Polyester. 100% Tencel is a lovely material but not sure about mixed with polyester. It looks a lot cheaper than it is. I think you could get a much nicer dress in that style for your budget. If this is the dress, I really don't like the cut out back.

Yes that’s the one! Funny the Asos listing says it’s black but further down the description it does actually describe it as dark khaki green… I thought my eyes were playing tricks! The outlet price was nowhere near £172 though.
