What do you think of this dress?

I tried this dress on the other day but didn’t buy it because a) not sure it suits me really, I think I mainly like the idea of spoiling myself (it’s around £100 which is way over my usual price point), and b) even if it does look ok on me I have no idea on what occasion I could wear it.

I spent years with an abusive exH who wouldn’t allow me access to my own wages so despite having a lovely new uncunty DH I’m still getting my head around the fact that I can spend more than £20 on a piece of clothing which I think might be swaying my judgement about this one. It’s also a style exH would have absolutely hated which also gives me a “fuck you!!” glow but I know that’s not really a good reason to buy something I look crap in! Honest opinions welcome to help me find my style feet 🙂

I think it looks lovely on you @DebussytoaDiscoBeat . I could never get away with puffed sleeves (wide shoulders), so am quite envious.

You have a lovely figure and if the dress makes you happy, keep it.

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments and recommendations. I like the Anthropology dress but whenever I try on that kind of style it doesn’t fit round my boobs without the rest of the dress making me look like a massive teepee (hence the drawstring on the All Saints dress being what drew me to it as it as it reins the bottom half back in). Definitely some other brands for me to check out though, Gabrielle Parker looks especially promising. I’ll be sure to come back and post THE dress when I finally buy one!

I really like it, it suits your figure perfectly. Treat yourself and buy it.

I think the material looks extremely thin to the point of being see-through, not so much in the picture you posted , but in the one posed by a model that a pp posted.
You also have the option of adding a belt to dresses to rein them in. Just something else to consider.

Is it All saints? I like the colours but not the frill at the bottom. I also think it looks a bit bag on you.

If you can find one of their silk mix ones in the sale, the fabric is lovely. Maybe try sizing down too; their stuff often comes up a bit big.

The Fatface and Shein dresses are a very different vibe and not very nice imo.

I think it does nothing for you. I think you've got a lovely figure! under that dress, that needs showing off, with a different styled dress.

The colour looks wrong on you.
I like puff sleeves but those hang too low and almost gives a four boobs effect.
There is too much material below the waist and I bet it doesn't look very flattering from the side? Having a frill at the bottom is another load of unnecessary material.
It's not awful but less fussy styles with less material would suit you much better.

Ro & Zo have loads of dresses in sale in John Lewis. I’ve bought one that I love… though have just seen it’s gone down another £20 😭

@DebussytoaDiscoBeat get it it's lovely if it's the one @NatashaDancing has spotted absolutely gorgeous and bang on trend! Also you could wear in winter with tights chunky boots and chunky cardi/jumper over aswell! And now with espadrilles or strappy lower heels, super chunky necklace and a big tote bag! I'm definitely a fan of it!😁

I’m a shopaholic so my mantra is ‘if I’m questioning it, it’s a no.’ You could find a far nicer dress out there for £100. Happy shopping :D
