How much is a cut and blow dry and how often?

I got my hair cut into a bob about 6 months ago and I love it. Only thing is I'm now going every 8 weeks - sometimes I stretch it to 10. And paying £70 a time for a cut and blow dry. Is this the normal sort of price? I might have to rethink!

£35 here; £85 if I have colour done too

merrymelodies · 25/06/2023 08:33

I get colour (roots done and highlights) plus cut and blow dry every ten weeks and it's hideously expensive. My hair is baby fine and difficult to manage but still... I had it done last week and, for the first time, I'm not happy with it. Not the colour and certainly not the cost. I think it's time for a change.

I hate going to the salon so only go 1-2 times a year for a tidy up. I found a place in SE London that suited my requirements last year. They are the cheapest in the postcode for a C&BD at £40. My daughter had a restyle, C&BD and it cost £60 despite it only being around the corner.

Windowcleaning · 25/06/2023 08:44

I pay £55 for a cut and blow dry in a nice part of North London.

Cyclingmummy1 · 25/06/2023 09:02

£55 and I go every eight weeks because you can see my roots which is another £43. NE.

bouncydog · 25/06/2023 09:17

Cut, colour, blow dry every 5 weeks £105 (plucking up courage to let the grey finally takeover, but every time an event is coming up so I cave)!

RuthW · 25/06/2023 09:19

Cut and finish £35 every 6 weeks

AgnesX · 25/06/2023 09:20

£50 every 6 weeks or so. Glasgow city centre.

Cut and blow-dry I should have said.

Selfesteem23 · 25/06/2023 09:22

My old hairdresser was £30 for cut and blow in a northwest town. I’m trying a new one this week as she closed. I think it’s a similar price. Not an upmarket salon offering the works with senior/juniors etc just small local hair dressers.

My hair doesn’t take much style or cutting or drying. It’s fine so doesn’t take long at all so fair price.

Bluebells1970 · 24/06/2023 21:33

I go every 6 weeks as I've got a longish bob and it's £85 each time.

Jesus for £85 I get a cut , colour ( foils) and blow dry!!

Oblomov23 · 25/06/2023 08:27

I too wondered if I didn't need to go so often, surely I can get away with 8 weeks occasionally?

Yes I'm going to try stretching it out

I “exchange skills” with my hairdresser so don’t pay anything - he owns the salon and I manage their social media - but if I did it would be £70 with him for a cut and finish. I have short hair and go every five weeks. To me it is worth it, and even before this old school barter system I was happy to pay it, on the basis I wear my hair every day. We had a spell where DP was out of work and things were very tight, but my hair was my non-negotiable.

FlopsiesAngrySandwich · 25/06/2023 10:23

I have a pixie cut. £18 to £25 here. But I never have it washed and blown dry.

These threads are a bit misleading unless you know how good these other stylists are. Some posters will not be having anything like a bob or other technical cut. I see my stylist at his house and pay £70 but if I saw him at the salon I’d pay £100. He is quite senior in a large chain and although he’s expensive he knows how to cut short hair which sadly a lot of younger stylists don’t. ( you don’t get to hide a shoddy cut)

There is also the factor that some people make some kind of assumption that something will be better just because you pay more for it, which isn't necessarily the case. (in so many things, not exclusively haircuts).

HoistWithHisOwnPetard · 25/06/2023 14:27

dry cut £10 every 8 weeks

NeedWineNow · 25/06/2023 15:26

Depends where you are. I'm in West Kent and I pay £99 for roots, cut and blow dry. I go every 8-10 weeks.

Divebar2021 · 26/06/2023 21:33

@UsingChangeofName

yeah you can’t guarantee that price = quality but stylists are not all created equal that’s for sure ( sadly learned that the hard way)

Zhougzhoug · 26/06/2023 21:42

Fancy but not crazy-fancy. Our nice independent local salon (Davines products) charges £60 for long hair or restyles, £50 for maintenance or shorter. Up north now but my old (similar vibe) independent in London is about the same. You can go to somewhere like George Northwood or Hershesons for the £75-100 bracket.

Fandabedodgy · 26/06/2023 21:55

£45 and I go a couple of times a year

CherryMaple · 26/06/2023 22:03

My hairdresser is now charging £50 for a wet cut (no blow dry). It takes half an hour max. She is very good, but I really resent paying £50, when it was £19 three years ago before the pandemic….. It means I am having my hair cut less often - I can afford it but I resent it! North West.

SuperGinger · 26/06/2023 22:05

Always get it done every three months by students for £20 in London. I used to get highlights but grew them out in lockdown and my natural haircolour which I hadn't seen in 20 years is actually quite good. My hair is super glossy and looks great considering I rarely even brush it. I don't use special products, I guess it's just luck.

BluebellBlueballs · 26/06/2023 22:05

I get mine cut a little shorter than I want and grow it out a bit so only go x 4 a year

I get it coloured too for an all Inc price but for a cut and blow I'd not pay more than 40

Motnight · 26/06/2023 22:14

£60 for a cut and blow dry, outer London. I have to go every 6 weeks or so. Been with my hairdresser years, and really rate him.

JaceLancs · 26/06/2023 22:17

I pay £45 every 6 weeks for trim and to have my roots done
