Quirky maxi dress for wedding?

My head in exploding trying to find the right dress for a wedding in September. Medium sized, fairly formal stately home kind of place, and I will be a witness.

I'm 50, a size 22 and only 5ft 2, but as I will be wearing flats, I would like maxi, or long midi dress. Boho or 70's kind of vibe but not too casual. I'm quite the barrel shape, so things fitted at the waist really don't suit me - an empire type line is best really - nothing that even threatens to highlight my stomach! Not sleeveless, but flappy sleeves would drive me potty!

I like colours and patterns - but I'm not a flowery type. Orange is my favourite colour, or mustard yellows.

I'm trying to find something interesting! And that's proving difficult. Any ideas?!

Have you any other colours you also like? It would broaden your options.

You're right, doesn't seem to be much around for petite plus size in orange/mustard!

Buying a regular length midi, which might helpfully be a maxi dress on you, could work on some designs. But the flattering empire line on a regular midi dress may fall lower down on you. More on your waist level, which you say you want to avoid!

Unless you're willing to go down the alterations route? Which may be a good option, actually.

What's your budget?
I'll keep looking.

EBay is your friend. You'll find quirky much easier then and can look through many more brands

Hopefully not too flowery?!

I like the green one, but would like some sleeve on it.

I've been looking through Joanie clothing - but the sleeves tend to be all flappy and flouncy. They would drive me utterly nuts!

Oh I love that!!! I used to have a few of their swing dresses and didn't know they were doing maxi's! Love the print!

@ghislaine that one is beautiful

I just bought this for DDs graduation and I totally love it but I'm having to get a seamstress to take it up and shorten the sleeves as it's built for giants! I'm a size 18-20 and the 18 fit fine.

Wow. They have stunning dresses. I don't think any are the right shape for me, but the fabrics are amazing. Off to look some more!

That is lovely OP

Depends how much you want to spend. Kemi Telford has some lovely dresses.

Looks like you've found your shortlist - but just in case. I find Marina Rinaldi's designs a bit odd, but she definitely owns the Glorious Tent corner of the market 😄 Non-clingy, special-looking tent in a rather lovely orange. 115cm long, would be 'midaxi' length on you. Your Italian size is 27.

Twisted Wunder has some nice colourful maxi dresses: https://twistedwunder.co.uk/collections/dresses

I’m the same size as you and have actually eyeing this one for a wedding myself:

I'm a massive Twisted Wunder fan! Their dresses are fab and I own 4 already. They are definitely my back up if I can't find anything else. Worn them to last 3 weddings I've been and everyone always comments on them. And nice big pockets too!

That Heritage Clothing dress is beautiful 💙

Not sure on the budget but might also be worth a look at Rixo? I follow a stylist on Instagram who always looks amazing in their dresses.
