Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum Cream - Worth the hype?

TokyoSushi · 23/06/2023 11:10

I noticed that they do a smaller and therefore more affordable size, there's also a travel bag with spray & shower gel as well, or just the cream?

What do you think? Worth a little Friday treat?!

I had a small tub which was part of a beauty box. It's OK I wouldn't repurchase. There's cheaper options which are just as good.

BeaLola · 23/06/2023 11:30

I've had it twice in small sizes as part of a GWP and dont understand the hype around it? Loads better out there

TokyoSushi · 23/06/2023 11:32

Glad I checked, might wait until I get it free in something!

I bought what I think is the Primark dupe as tub same shape and it is lovely, great scent and very moisturising.

TSJ19 · 23/06/2023 11:45

I love it. It smells all day and its made my skin so soft.

orangie · 23/06/2023 11:46

I love it; have the spray too as the smell reminds me of holidays

TokyoSushi · 23/06/2023 12:03

Oh, I might wait until I have some more replies before deciding!

If it’s just the scent you like get the bum bum cream. I find it lasts really well on the skin. The spray lasts about 30 mins and don’t even waste your money on the body wash.

Isthatarealname · 23/06/2023 12:21

I wasn't keen on it at all. Didn't look any different to any other moisturizer and found the scent a bit too sweet.

HundredMilesAnHour · 23/06/2023 12:25

I really like it. It's very moisturising and lasts really well (unlike a lot of other creams I've tried). I put some on my arms and legs less than an hour ago. Great stuff. I like the fragrance but then I recently tried the Bom Dia in the same range and I LOVE that fragrance. I used a travel size Bom Dia cream when I was staying in hospital after surgery and the nurses all said how nice my room smelt. 😂

GCAcademic · 23/06/2023 12:30

I didn’t find it moisturising at all, in fact it seemed to dry my skin out. I like the smell though.

Meepme · 23/06/2023 12:55

I bought it as a gift and it smelt lovely but there are so many other alternatives out there, i wouldnt repurchase

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/06/2023 12:57

I would normally use Aveeno cream but tried a small tub of the pink cream. It smells nice and does moisturise my skin but not as well as the Aveeno.

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 23/06/2023 12:59

I’m glad you have asked op as I like the sound of this too.

GayPareeee · 23/06/2023 12:59

I didn't like it at all as it's far too sickly sweet - if you normally like vanilla-y smells you'll be OK but I don't get the hype. DSis and DD both love it though.

I think my fragrance free Palmers Cocoa butter is a better moisturiser too

Same. It made me slightly itchy. Smelt fantastic and I could smell it on my clothes at the end of the day as well.

Doggymummar · 23/06/2023 13:02

I have some but it is so cloying I mix it with my soap and glory to calm the smell down

What would you recommend as an alternative?

Tisfortired · 23/06/2023 13:04

I love it for the smell and how luxurious it feels, it is so thick and the smell does last all day. I have bought I think 4 tubs now, (first one was in first lockdown when I needed cheering up…) however in terms of how well it actually moisturises it’s okay but my garnier ultimate blends for £6 a bottle does what I thought the bum bum cream would do, it’s brilliant.

Papernotplastic · 23/06/2023 13:04

It’s ok. I don’t think it has any special effect on my skin. The main thing is the smell. It’s really strong and if you love it, that’s great, but if you don’t you might find it overpowering

MorrisZapp · 23/06/2023 13:05

I absolutely adore it! But it's a very particular scent and you may not like it. It doesn't 'firm' anything but it's a beautiful, luxurious skin treat.

I guess it depends on our individual priorities. Sol de Janeiro are cruelty-free, Palmers are not.

I have the Revolution version which is lovely. Has a really nice peach scent and the accompanying scrub is fantastic.

Jewelanemone · 23/06/2023 13:08

Smells too sweet for me and I broke out in tiny spots across my chest where I'd used it.
