Anyone else loving the current 'fashion' at the moment?

Well the part I'm talking about, anyway!

Ladies fashion consisting of comfy, relaxed or loose fitting linen trousers, loose fitting shirt over a nice plain top, black Birkenstocks, classic and timeless styles

It all looks really effortless and well put together

Usually I'm feeling quite miffed at the awful fashions but really liking it, will be so bloody sad when it goes 'out of fashion' as it's how I like to dress Grin

I was just musing today that I'm so glad this more relaxed and elegant look is in. I loathe skinny jeans and leggings on me, personally.

inappropriateraspberry · 05/06/2023 20:32

Great when the weathers good, but not really practical on wet cold days!

Digitalisaredangerous · 05/06/2023 20:59

I love it too!

Me too and I’ve spent days trying to find trousers such as these. Does anyone have links to trousers you like or suggestions of where to look to get style ideas? I’m clueless

SirChenjins · 05/06/2023 21:02

Yep, love it, it’s my kind of look for the summer. Just wish my feet could grow to love my Birkenstocks!

thedevilinablackdress · 05/06/2023 21:59

Don't feel sad that it'll go out of fashion, feel happy that you can stock up on things you like, and keep wearing regardless.
Or even better, wait until people who only bought them because they were in fashiin give them away to the charity shops/sell on eBay.

Digitalisaredangerous · 05/06/2023 22:00

Zara has some nice wide leg trousers atm

dudsville · 05/06/2023 22:02

I embraced this in 2019 and won't ever look back, so comfy!

StarDolphins · 05/06/2023 22:02

I love it too! Love my wide legs but actually , I still love my skinny jeans too depending on what too! Love Birkenstocks but also loving my converse!

Sounds like I love everything but I don’t. I hate Lycra tight dresses! & shorts because I have a varicose vein!

Floisme · 05/06/2023 22:12

It's been my favourite look for a few years - throw a silk shirt on top and it'll get you into most events (well at the least the kind I'm invited to). But you know what, I don't worry any more about it going out of fashion because - and maybe I'm just fickle and shallow - I find something else always comes along. I even enjoyed skinny jeans, which are probably my least favourite, because I really liked the Chelsea boots and the slouchy knitwear and all the other stuff that came with them. ,

Sensibletrousers · 05/06/2023 22:37

It has a name - lagenlook! Google it for lots of stores / inspiration. It translates as layered look, and isn’t new, but is nice!

eurochick · 05/06/2023 22:49

Noooo. I can't stand linen. It always ends up looking like a rag. And these baggy styles just look awful on me.

Orangeradiorabbit · 05/06/2023 23:03

Love the look on other people, but it just makes me look much bigger than I am.

It reminds me of those old Gok Wan/Trinny and Suzanna episodes where they would tell people off for wearing baggy and shapeless clothes than add lbs and hide any shape.

Like I said, it just doesn't work on me and makes me look huge, but on other people it looks lovely! I'm looking forward to it going out of fashion, or at least something more flattering for those of us who carry a bit more weight: Fitted clothes that show off curves and shape (rather than hide) always look much better on me.

I agree. I can’t do the classy linen look either. I look like a lumpy grain sack.

Jemandthehologramsunite · 05/06/2023 23:25

Don't like it at all, most people don't look effortlessly elegant but sloppy. Only works if you are tall and thin, but even then as a 'look' ... it's a bit meh

continentallentil · 05/06/2023 23:32

I think it can look great

Sadly I am quite fat so it makes me look like a person double the (quite large) size I really am.

So I will just watch you waft with envy.

CouldIHaveThatInEnglishPlease · 06/06/2023 07:25

Not a fan of linen but I have recently bought a pair of wide leg viscous trousers that teamed with a semi fitted t shirt, loosely tucked in, and a pair of Birkenstocks feels very glamorous and stylish to waft around in.

HadEnoughOfBears · 06/06/2023 07:36

Yeah not many people at all can pull it off properly and no one looks glamorous in a pair of Birkenstocks!

As a 5'2 woman who isn't the slimmest right now, I probably don't pull it off as well as I think in my head 😅

I'm short and I hate ironing- so this isn't a golden age of fashion for me 😂

Would love to wear wide pants but they always look frumpy on me.

TheOGCCL · 06/06/2023 08:28

I think you can downsize this look to make it more flattering if you’re short/carrying a bit of extra weight. Trousers don’t have to be super wide, just not skin tight and shirt only has to be slightly oversized, so it isn’t swamping you. Key is the contrast between the baggier top and bottom and the more fitted under layer. Very flattering on lots of figures including large boobs.

LadyBird1973 · 06/06/2023 08:31

It's not for me - I'm short and dumpy. And Birkenstocks are the ugliest shoes on the planet - I don't like seeing them even on tall beautiful women.
But if that look suits you, it is definitely more comfortable and suited to everyday life than some previous fashions.
I would love to be able to wear loose fitting trousers though.

Yep, I'd look like a ship in full sail in those trousers!

Feeling your pain 😀. Even at the best of times, my stumpy little legs and long body make me look like a corgi on its hindlegs. Wide trousers definitely don't help.
