Well the part I'm talking about, anyway!

Ladies fashion consisting of comfy, relaxed or loose fitting linen trousers, loose fitting shirt over a nice plain top, black Birkenstocks, classic and timeless styles

It all looks really effortless and well put together

Usually I'm feeling quite miffed at the awful fashions but really liking it, will be so bloody sad when it goes 'out of fashion' as it's how I like to dress Grin

Love the look on other people, but it just makes me look much bigger than I am.

It reminds me of those old Gok Wan/Trinny and Suzanna episodes where they would tell people off for wearing baggy and shapeless clothes than add lbs and hide any shape.

Like I said, it just doesn't work on me and makes me look huge, but on other people it looks lovely! I'm looking forward to it going out of fashion, or at least something more flattering for those of us who carry a bit more weight: Fitted clothes that show off curves and shape (rather than hide) always look much better on me.

I remember watching both those programmes. But agree it looks sloppy and I'm just waiting for the big wide belts to come back in fashion that people wore with linen trousers and skirts back in the 00s.

Takemyselfdancing · 06/06/2023 09:02

I don’t know many people who would look good In that in real life. Maybe if you’re tall or very slim. It’s not flattering on me (small with boobs.)

I can wear wide trousers if they are fitted around the waistband and hips but anything too loose doesn’t suit me. I look awful in shirts too and feel uncomfortable.

Bodenesque · 06/06/2023 09:08

Seasalt have great trousers, loose styles but not very wide and they've much more substance to them than the m&s ones.I also like their side fastenings and rear elasticated waist.

SkyandSurf · 06/06/2023 09:20

Good point, loose fitting shirts on short people with larger breasts aren't flattering.

I really need shirts to come in at the waist for definition. I really don't like the 'half tucked half not tucked' look that's all over instagram- it looks like they got distracted before they finished getting dressed!

I find they are OK, as long as you wear them with several buttons open and a vest top underneath.

The buttoned-up-to-the-max trend of a few years ago, OTOH, was hideous on anyone well-norked.

FanFckingTastic · 06/06/2023 10:00

I'm probably in the minority, but I hate the current fashion trend. Everything looks baggy, shapeless and frumpy in my opinion. The shoes are the worst, horrible ugly clumpy things that make my legs look like tree trunks. To be fair, I'm 5ft nothing with stumpy legs, so this kind of style just drowns me. I think that the only people that actually look good in this kind of get up are the 6 ft, 6 stone type - everyone else looks two sizes bigger than they are. Sorry....

Appalonia · 06/06/2023 10:02

Loving all the beautiful, bright colours and natural fabrics. And the combat trousers. I have 3 pairs that i kept from when they were last in fashion. Unfortunately they're a size 12 and I'm not anymore! 😂

Matildahoney · 06/06/2023 10:27

Nope, it looks awful on me! At 5"2 and size 14-16 it just swamps me. I look better in fitted clothes. Shirts make me look 'butch' and Birkenstocks do the same!
Skinny jeans, or short summer dresses with flip flops for me.

Coronado2 · 06/06/2023 10:31

I would look like I was dressed for gardening and hadn't planned on leaving the house.

I am on the short side of average and am fat and although I love wide legged trousers, they make me look shorter and dumpy. I'd love to waft around looking glamorous, but I need to grow a few inches and lose a few stone 😂

Toddlerone · 06/06/2023 11:12

I am with the 5.1" and bigger than I'd like camp, so I struggle with this fashion. Loose fitting trousers are a nightmare, as are high waisted. Now trousers seem to be loose AND high waisted.

LouisaMayAlcott · 06/06/2023 13:11

I seem to be in the minority because I love this current trend and I'll be wearing it forever! Mind you I have been wearing wide leg linen trousers for years with a slim fitting tee shirt or vest top and either an open shirt or cotton blazer. My favourite outfit is wide legged black trousers and blazer, I love the whole androgynous look.

I'm not 6 foot tall, just a fairly standard 5'6 size 12.

LolaSmiles · 06/06/2023 13:15

I like the style but hate how linen creases and it doesn't suit my weekday lifestyle. A nice linen mix works ok though between work, WFH and home.

candlesflamesandbrooms · 06/06/2023 13:22

I just Googled lagenlook and had a look on Google images - I have to say whenever I see people dressed like this I always think they look like they belong in some cult or shop selling crystals (said tongue in cheek)

Like with everything though it's personal taste and I remember 90s fashion and 00 (and have the photos to prove it sadly) so I'm totally not in any place to judge.

Honestly to be it doesn't look glam to me, it looks frumpy in my eyes. My sister is wafe like and thin and wears this stuff and I love her dearly but even with all that I'm still not convinced.

Sorry op.

YinYogi · 06/06/2023 13:26

It looks very comfortable. I can’t say I’ve seen many people wearing this look in real life, though. Is it fashionable? Not that I ‘m claiming to know much about fashion!

It wouldn’t suit me particularly, but I’d wear it maybe in a relaxed holiday. Except for Birkenstocks. They look awful on me.

Theskipisfull · 06/06/2023 13:32

Is this really fashion? Isn't it just a look like loads of others that's been around forever?

Floisme · 06/06/2023 14:36

I think we might be talking about more than one look! Lagenlook to me means lots of layers of different lengths and shapes and textures. I think it can look great but I was thinking more of just simple wide leg trousers (not necessarily linen) with a floaty shirt, semi fastened (vest top underneath) and possibly (but not compulsory) a bit of ruffle going on.

Yetisrus · 06/06/2023 16:36

I've just googled lagenlook and it reminds me of all those awful clothes they sell on QVC.

Yes I don't consider this lagenlook which I've always thought of as lots of layers and no definition of the wearers shape, whereas this style (to me!) is fitted at the waist but with a floaty open shirt or blazer. I need an outfit to fit me at the waist as it's my one redeeming feature lol

TinaYouFatLard · 06/06/2023 16:43

I look like my Art teacher from school when attempting this look. Not good.

I think I've seen Lagenlook done well and it looked really good, but there was more to it than just a load of tunics over baggy trousers. The tops looked carefully chosen, different tones of the same colour(s) and in a mix of fabrics so you had a bit of contrast. And there was some definition too, e.g. a jacket or waistcoat worn on top. It was interesting but it looked as if it would need a lot of thought to get right, whereas wide legs and shirt (which I'm tucking in these days) is just a summer no-brainer for me.

denimdonut · 06/06/2023 17:46

It’s not lagenlook, as pp mentioned. It’s more polished with a nod to the 90s, Jacqueline Kennedy etc. I love it too, just wish I wasn’t so fat.

Daffodilwoman · 06/06/2023 17:56

I love the fact women wear comfortable shoes rather than shoes which damage your feet.
I like the loose fitting linen trouser look too. Unfortunately the last time I wore them I was slim, now I’m not so they don’t look the same on me.

Carolyn! Goddamnit.

LennyBalls · 06/06/2023 18:03

Yes for once there is a style that suits me. Love it

DancedByTheLightOfTheMoon · 06/06/2023 18:03

Not for either, l am more than happy with my own unique look, so l don't bother following fashion. Fashion for me represents a total lack of imagination, it's like everyone walking around in same uniform.
