If you were getting married but not telling anyone…..

……what would you wear?

For context, DP and I have thrown this idea around a bit over the years. Many reasons for this, but the likely scenario is we would get two witnesses off the street and just do it at the registry office, have a nice dinner to ourselves then never tell anyone.

Just a bit curious, if you ever considered doing this (or can let your imagination run riot now!) what would you wear? Weddingy type dress? Jumpsuit? Jeans?! Has anyone done this and what did you choose for your outfit?

I wore a simple white midi dress and flowers in my hair. Still a “bride” but simple

ModerationInEverything · 03/06/2023 17:34

We did exactly this..I had a simple dress from monsoon bridal.

swanling · 03/06/2023 17:42

Well, what do you want to wear? Are you going to have any photos? If so what do you want to be wearing in them?!

The only people I know who did this (except for the keeping it secret forever part obviously) wore jeans and hoodies.

Floisme · 03/06/2023 17:43

I wore a dress from Warehouse that I had already.

We haven’t made any firm plans to do anything yet, it’s still a bit of a musing. I’m just more a combination of curious about what other people did, and looking for a bit of inspiration if we do!

I don’t think we’d do photos. DP hates having his picture taken and I’m not keen either. We both like nice clothes and dressing up for dinner though, so something more “special” might be nicer than jeans for us.

What colour if you don’t mind me asking? I’m of a mind to perhaps not go for white. I’m 1) blond and pasty and 2) given to getting grubby marks on anything white I own within an hour!

I always forget about Monsoon! I think I stop at Coast, get overwhelmed and then run for the nearest place that will serve me a gin.

I think it's your wedding, hopefully you'll only have one, so you should wear whatever you want to. How would you like to look on the day? And you can always go mad and have two outfits. One for the ceremony and one for the restaurant.

I wore a very simple white dress.

I love a red dress! Both DP and my old boss have pointed out in the past I seem to choose wearing red when I’m feeling feisty. I’ve seen some beautiful red dresses but I don’t want to frighten him 😂

I didn’t do this exactly but we only had parents and our children present and didn’t tell anyone else at all. I wore a navy blue lace dress.

Radi0liverpool · 03/06/2023 20:05

I wore a tshirt and jeans!

Navy is a nice idea. Interesting that a couple of people seem to have gone for lace still, but in a non-traditional colour. I really like that idea. Perhaps a knee length navy lace shift.

Hate my arms though, so couldn’t go sleeveless.

I wore this!

i ended up wanting to look vaguely bridal, but relaxed. I had trainers on in the end and loved it! We didn’t tell anyone and it was perfect. Have a fabulous day!

This is gorgeous! And thank you. 😊 I’ve had a look at phase eight but couldn’t see anything as lovely as this recently.

I wore a champagne "occasion" dress from M&S.

thedevilinablackdress · 03/06/2023 20:18

I wore a vintage 1950s champagne coloured heavy satin dress with loads of beading and rhinestones.

Itsanotherhreatday · 03/06/2023 20:22

I wore a cream dress which had pink flowers and it fitted me perfectly it had high and low parts on the bottom and swished!

Pink shoes and simple Jewellery - dress was £80 in the sale.

Go and try some one, one will catch your eye!

Lottapianos · 03/06/2023 20:23

LOVE this thread! DP and I are thinking of doing something similar and I hadn't given much thought to what I wanted to wear, apart from defo some fabulous trainers! Lovely ideas on here 😊

bryceQ · 03/06/2023 20:28

I did this late last year. I wore a deep green velvet slinky dress and had wavy long hair with little diamonds. It was the kind of dress I knew my dp would love, and seeing his face was so gorgeous. He wore a nice suit and so did our son.
