If you were getting married but not telling anyone…..

……what would you wear?

For context, DP and I have thrown this idea around a bit over the years. Many reasons for this, but the likely scenario is we would get two witnesses off the street and just do it at the registry office, have a nice dinner to ourselves then never tell anyone.

Just a bit curious, if you ever considered doing this (or can let your imagination run riot now!) what would you wear? Weddingy type dress? Jumpsuit? Jeans?! Has anyone done this and what did you choose for your outfit?

I wore a white cotton summer dress, a flower crown & champagne ballet flats. It was just the two of us. Went for a pint afterwards.

We intend to marry with just us and 2 witnesses and not tell anyone. I intend to wear jeans, t-shirt and converse like any other day. We are only doing it for legal reasons, been together 25+ years and have 2 kids in their twenties.

We did this! I wore a dark green velvet dress from Monsoon. Roses and ivy in my hair. (29 years ago!)

This one from asos! Will have a veil as well as we are having a professional photographer (despite it being just the two of us!)

Thank you, this is excellent advice. I’m bookmarking that floral comb too!

We did this two years ago. Just us, our kids and two mumsnet witnesses. I wore jeans and blouse, my husband wore a suit 😆.

@noodlezoodle the city hall weddings are exactly the sort of thing I’ve got in my head when I picture sneaking off to do it!

Oh good! I imagine there are lots more pictures online - you get a really good mix - we were one of about ten couples that got married that day and it went from full wedding dress and wedding party to jeans and flipflops, it was lovely to see.

Oh and I had a vowel renewal a few years ago, it was festival/bright colours themed. I wore this haircomb. Was lovely.

Lots of ideas for special hair accessories on there.

Those haircombs are so lovely that I might have to buy one and just wear it round the house Grin

Namechanged to share this - my wedding last month, we got married at Old Marylebone town hall, and had two photographers who were also our witnesses. It was lovely 🥰 My dress was a vintage one from eBay - I didn’t want to spend £££ and you get more dress for your money vintage!

You have an opportunity to wear exactly what you want.

So, fill your boots!

willowstar · 04/06/2023 05:41

This is exactly what we did, 14 years ago. I wore a pink jasper conran mini dress from Debenhams. It is the kind of thing I liked. I had no notion to look bridal or anything. Just wear whatever you fancy.

Lottapianos · 04/06/2023 07:40

Such a beautiful photo Dondeesta ❤️

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 04/06/2023 07:56

I wore jeans, Converse & a Ramones T-shirt! Wear whatever makes you feel good.

FrillyGoatFluff · 04/06/2023 08:15

I'd wear something lovely, but that you can wear again for special occasions (so possibly not white). That way, you and DP can share the meaning to it when you wear it, even if nobody else knows.

ChezRemy · 04/06/2023 08:51

I wore a short white lace wedding dress from ASOS and white converse. DH wore a suit.

We got married in the town hall with a few friends and family and then went to the pub.

Dd had a full circle crown ...she was wearing it around Padstow a couple of days later (we'd hired a bell tent site in Cornwall).
