Help finding outfit for 40-ish bride, second wedding

Definitely don't want to do big wedding meringue. Not even sure I want to go all white/cream. Early summer wedding. Love a vintage style.

Sadly did the 1950's calf length, halter-neck full-skirt look the first time round, so feel like I can't go there, which would be my natural inclination, so I was thinking of something more 1940's? Maybe a cream silk peplum jacket over the top, fabulous halo hat with netting, but what the fuck do I wear underneath?

I'm 5'4", size 12, hourglass shape with a bit of a mum-tum I'm self-conscious about, english rose colouring, dark blonde, green/grey eyes.

I'm obsessed with the Sable dress from Nancy Mac in the seafoam or periwinkle colours, but they're velvet and i think that would just look really weird in the summer...

So, help me think about options?

Stole! Damn auto correct !

Rockschooldropout · 24/05/2023 13:15

They market as guest and mother of bride wear but I don’t see why they couldn’t be worn by a bride

CatMattress · 24/05/2023 14:38

Good shout, but possibly a little bit more formal/matrons than I'm comfortable with. I may be (nearly) 40, but I don't feel it!

I also want to keep costs relatively low where I can, so nothing custom made.

It was a good shout, just not quite right. Thank you x

Check out Nancy Mac, lots of lovely choices.

I wore a shantung silk suit in oyster.

Must admit some were a bit .. my mother 🤣 but I picked a few nicer things out of there .
I got my dress from Pretty Kitty , so like a longer forties style tea dress but a lower cut wrap front . I was going for a similiar dress to the one you said you wore first time but sadly Vivienne of Holloway cancelled the order 😭
Bombshell have some lovely dresses depending on your budget , what kind of colours are you thinking ?

Rockschooldropout · 24/05/2023 18:07

Have you looked at Monsoon ? They have some beautiful wedding dresses but you could look at the bridesmaids ones if you don’t want white - if I’d have been having a summer wedding I’d have chosen a boho style from Monsoon
Also what about a trouser suit rather than a dress ?

CatMattress · 24/05/2023 22:25

Nah. Trousers feel like slob wear to me. Plus I have v short legs!!
I may have to dig through my vintage dress patterns and make something. Hrm.
40s or 60s? That is the question...

I bought a Monsoon dress and had it fitted by a dressmaker. There's some lovely ones this season also at whistles, phase 8 etc.

What's the budget? The Vampires Wife has amazing 40s inspired dresses but £££. You can sometimes get them on The Outnet.

Tailfeather · 24/05/2023 23:14

Coast have some gorgeous wedding outfits. Even jumpsuits if you want something different!

You need to order that Ghost one if you like it. There are hardly any left. It's lovely.

CatMattress · 25/05/2023 00:54

Here's a photo of me, to show what we're working with. It even includes the flabby tummy I need to hide.
Also two dresses I've found on second hand sites that I'm pondering... I keep going back to that leave one even though I usually steer clear of fussy fabrics like lace.

If it were me, I'd look for the fabbiest dress in my budget, whether it's The Vampire's Wife or Erdem or Batsheva or Max Mara or Zimmerman or Renli Su or Eponine or Cabbages and Roses or whatever floats your boat rather than a "wedding dress"
