WHAT is wrong with me and trainers?! Help me someone. (pics)

So i started a thread about Fitflop trainers/sneakers yesterday. I need a pair of trainers to go walking in. I've never had any proper trainers only little plimsoll things. No support.

So white pair and silver pair have arrived. And once again i feel like the only person in the world who looks a prat in trainers. I'm size 5/6.

These trainers, and to be honest every trainer i've ever tried on, feel like they look like boats. I want to like them, they're so comfy. But i look down and i feel like i'm wearing barges.

The white ones look laughable and the heel slips off no matter how tight i do the laces, so i haven't even bothered with a pic of those.
The silver - if i lace them tightly they do stay on. But ... !!?

I don't know is it me? They fit, and they're comfy, but do they not look daft?

I'm feeling so deflated. Everyone else looks perfectly normal and nice in trainers 😳

(and sorry about bare feet pics it's to try and show what i'm seeing compared to my actual feet. if that makes sense)

You are not used to seeing yourself in trainers and you are looking at an unusual angle

Sweetladyjane · 05/05/2023 12:56

I think they look good, after a couple of days wear they’ll soften and look less ‘hard’.

Plump82 · 05/05/2023 12:56

They really don't look huge.

TooOldForThisNonsense · 05/05/2023 12:57

They look fine, but if they are slipping off your feet you might need to try some narrower ones :)

wtfisgoingonhere21 · 05/05/2023 12:58

They aren't trainers op

They are thick pumps which probably by the look of it have no inner arch support.

Decent walking trainers need to have good support inside which also help balance your ankles.

Nike make some really good supportive and not too expensive trainer.

Jd sports and schuh currently have a sale

PuppyMonkey · 05/05/2023 12:58

I think yours look fine OP but I totally relate, I too think I look a proper knob end in trainers and I feel weird walking in them.GrinConfused

TheFlis12345 · 05/05/2023 12:58

Have you looked in a full length mirror? Shoes often look weird from a top angle I find.

greenacrylicpaint · 05/05/2023 13:01

they look fine. but fir goodness sake go to a (shoe) shop and try on various sizes/styles to find one pair that are comfortable and fit properly.

Stratocumulus · 05/05/2023 13:01

Looking down on your feet is an entirely different view than anyone else has.
You could try some “heel grips” if trainers are slipping off your heels. Try Timpsons or Clark’s for those.
I have very long toes, my ancestors swung from the trees, so I have to buy large size trainers. I know exactly what you mean about “boats” but I have found Puma Classic trainers give my feet a “neat” look I can live with.

Laiste · 05/05/2023 13:04

I'll unpack them again and go and have a proper look in the mirror and take a standing up pic.

Thank you for all replies.
hang on

They don’t look massive. They also don’t look like great trainers so that’s probably why they’re slipping off? And even if they did look massive, it’s a trendy look now - I purposely buy chunky trainers.

wwyd2021medicine · 05/05/2023 13:04

When you say 'To go walking in', do you mean just day to day shopping etc or country walks (fields/rough paths) ?

BIWI · 05/05/2023 13:08

If they're FitFlops, they will give you decent support though!

I think they look fine.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 05/05/2023 13:23

You need to embrace the barge!

I think your problem here is that - because you feel nervous about them - you have ordered trainers that aren't proper trainers. You're trying a gateway drug to trainers, not the real thing, and that's what doesn't work. These are just rather naff (sorry). Normal trainers will look much better - these ones look like some unholy mash-up of a slipper and a 1980s plimsol.

Laiste · 05/05/2023 13:23

OK.
Excuse lack of carpet 🙄

Oh and i've included a pic of old plims which is as trainerish as i ever get. I guess anything's better than them!

LOL 😂
You're right i'm avoiding the full on sporty trainer. I'm the least sporty person on the planet.

KnickerlessParsons · 05/05/2023 13:30

They look fine! But I can guarantee that any trainers that come in silver are not for proper walking!

Aw I like Fitflop rally trainers I have quite a lot of pairs :( I’m quite unfashionable mind you ;) and I’m trying to build myself up to some new balance soon 😊🤣

Laiste · 05/05/2023 13:36

BIWI you're right they do have arch support. I have a lot of fitflop sandals and flip flops and they're the comfiest things. Straight out of the box.

Laiste · 05/05/2023 13:39

When i say walking i mean walking round the village for the sole purpose of getting exercise.

And on hols i suppose. Although the fitflop flip flops have always done when it's hot ...

I'm having a laugh here so this has cheered me up.

Yes, long monkey toes @Stratocumulus 😂I do quite like the look of Puma classics. on other people obvs

They look fine, no one else would think they look strange it's just that you're overthinking it! (I do this all the time so can relate)

Laiste · 05/05/2023 13:44

i've got to pop out to the school coronation thing - but i'll be back.
(i might wear the trainers!😳)
