Do these adidas gazelles suit me?

I'm wondering if the tongue on the adidas gazelles is a bit too long for me. I'm 5 for 3 inches. It seems like it's weirdly long. Or is it just me?

Also how have people fared with the suede fabric?

Looks like you haven't utilised all of the lace holes, should be one more set which would help with the tongue.

Carsarelife · 03/05/2023 23:34

I'd be more worried about the width. These trainers come up so narrow. As they are suede I'm sure they'd stretch. The tongue looks fine tbh

hopsalong · 03/05/2023 23:57

I think maybe the colour of the tongue is a bit odd, the white on black making it too prominent? I wouldn't say that they don't suit you, but I think the fact that you're asking means that you don't really like them.

monotonemusings · 04/05/2023 06:38

They look nice but you don't seem to like them so I'd get rid

Dermadirj · 04/05/2023 07:22

Thanks all! Yep I think I'm just going to return them. I'd love them if the tongue were just a lot less prominent. Does anyone have any recommendations for a similar shoe but less tongue-ey?

No, try something that is more flattering in the ankle area.

Magicmagician · 04/05/2023 08:22

I think it’s wearing them with skinny jeans that’s throwing the silouette off - either roll those up to show some ankle or try with straight leg jeans. I’ve had a few pairs of gazelles and love them, so comfy - worth using protector spray on them to make them a bit more waterproof but they last fine .

TheOGCCL · 04/05/2023 08:25

I agree it’s because the tongue is white, against black. White always looks bigger and it makes a feature of it.

Fridaysgirl17 · 04/05/2023 08:27

I had gazelles a few years ago don't remember the tongue being so big, mine were grey though & from the kids section 🤣. I've recently got some https://ie.sportsdirect.com/nike-court-legacy-next-nature-shoes-ladies-274159#colcode=27415903 & they are great, comfy,& they material is so much easier to keep, same kind of style but the tongue is definitely normal size

Fuckitydoodah · 04/05/2023 08:50

They don't look quite right. I'm sure a pair I had years ago had the same colour tongue as the trainer. I'd have another look around.

Also, if you wear trainers with skinnies you need to have some ankle showing or it doesn't look quite right. Turn up your bottoms and that will make it look better too.

AnnPerkins · 04/05/2023 08:59

I think they look fine.

I have them in a dark raspberry colour. I have had them a year and I only noticed a few weeks ago that one is much darker than the other 🙄

HippyChickMama · 04/05/2023 09:06

Adidas Campus? Similar but a less prominent tongue

Catspyjamas17 · 04/05/2023 09:08

I don't like the big tongue at all. The ones I used to have in the mid 1990s didn't have that. Other than that they do suit you but I think would look better with straight cut or looser fit jeans.

MollyRover · 04/05/2023 09:08

Yes, a lot of Adidas Gazelles come with the tongue in a white colour, often a strange plastic- ish material too. I do like them though.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 04/05/2023 09:09

Try Adidas superstar, they are a bit wider and shorter somehow, and no tongue issue!

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/05/2023 09:35

I think they don’t work with skinny jeans

also, while I think black boots can work with jeans usually the jeans are longer in that case - I think black trainers with jeans look scrappy

If you like adidas then how about Samba's or even superstars. If you want Nike then Dunk lows come in multiple colourways and are comfier than air force 1's.

PhoenixIsFlying · 04/05/2023 10:14

As previous poster said, are you sure you have used all the shoelace holes, I'm sure there is another set of holes and that would shorten the tongue

DrMorbius · 04/05/2023 10:15

Adidas Gazelles are mens trainers.

ReviewingTheSituation · 04/05/2023 10:28

There are 2 types of Gazelles (I know, because one type doesn't fit me, and the other fits like a glove). So if you like the look, then it's worth looking into that. The tongue may be different on each type, so it might solve your problem.

mynameiscalypso · 04/05/2023 10:31

I had some that looked like this, I could never get them to look right. There are some much nicer similar styles that adidas do.

XBealtaine · 04/05/2023 11:00

I agree, that tongue looks weirdly long.
The trainers linked would be better, thicker foam base gives an inch of height and the tongue doesn't look like it's going to strangle you!
