Do these adidas gazelles suit me?

Dermadirj · 03/05/2023 23:31

I'm wondering if the tongue on the adidas gazelles is a bit too long for me. I'm 5 for 3 inches. It seems like it's weirdly long. Or is it just me?

Also how have people fared with the suede fabric?

I have Gazelles in just about every colour. I love them. I have small but very narrow feet so it’s rare to find a sneaker that actually suits my feet.

Avocadoandcheese · 04/05/2023 11:39

I got some recently and was also unsure (because of the tongue!), but I decided to keep them. They look better if you thread the laces completely.

I love my gazelles, have them in 4 colours. They all have the white tongue apart from my black on black ones which have a black tongues. They are so comfy, can potter around in them all day

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/05/2023 11:57

I have these and really like them, although I don't think they are going to last well with the wet weather of the NW they have done well so far with a protector spray.

As PP says you haven't laced them up properly, there is a lot less tongue showing if you use all the lace holes. Personally I think they just don't go with your jeans, so keeping them would depend on what other trousers/jeans you are going to wear. I wear mine with combat trousers, wide leg jeans, maxi skirts and bootcut jeans.

EarringsandLipstick · 04/05/2023 12:31

That's interesting that there are 2 types of Gazelles. I also have Gazelles, love them & @Dermadirj I'm also 5 ft 3, no issues with tongue being too long.

They seem too small for you tho so perhaps just not a great fit for you.

Adidas Gazelles are mens trainers.

No they aren't - or at least not only! There are women's style Gazelles too.

Tiddlypomtiddlypom · 04/05/2023 13:10

@DrMorbius since when did feet have sex-based differences?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 04/05/2023 13:13

I'd also like to know what the difference between a mans trainer and a woman's trainer is. Especially given how narrow Gazelles are lol.

Londontown12 · 04/05/2023 13:18

Try the adidas og or the sambas ! And not with skinny jeans x

Mydcchangedmyusername · 04/05/2023 13:24

It does seem weirdly longer than normal for them.

Was going to buy these in the pink, I think that's the colour, from Next website. I didn't notice the tongue but I'm going to have another look because i wouldn't like that too.

diamondpony80 · 04/05/2023 13:51

i just checked DHs gazelles and the tongue is definitely shorter and less prominent. They look the same otherwise.

Dalekjastninerels · 04/05/2023 14:17

I never thought to be concerned how my sneakers looked!

happypoobum · 04/05/2023 16:05

I have navy/turquoise gazelles and love them.

It looks like you haven’t laced them up properly.

Dermadirj · 04/05/2023 16:58

Thanks everyone who responded! OK so I've fully laced them up in the attached pics.

I think, as pp have said, the issue is my outfit not necessarily the trainers. Problem is I'm still a skinny jean/legging kinda person. Every baggy jean I've tried I've not loved. So as a comparison ive also taken pics of a typical skinny jean outfit for me with shoes I usually wear (loafers or slip ons like toms). Looking at the pics I think I really need a shoe that leaves some space between it at the start of my jeans. I think that's why I find the gazelle tongue so jarring.

But for anyone with a similar body type to me (5'3, size 18), please do share your baggy trouser/Jean or just general outfit recommendations. I am in a bit of a style rut.

The only baggy pants I have are the ones I wear at home, which I folded up at the bottom to see how the trainers look.

My day to day trainers (cheap, practical running nikes) are at the end of their life so I was looking for a new pair of trainers that are 'cool' not just practical.

But I think my search continues. I'll try some of the other ones pp have mentioned.

Yeah they need socks or something. I think they look nice but not with that outfit

MsWhitworth · 04/05/2023 17:02

I think they’re fine with skinny jeans 🤷‍♀️

MsWhitworth · 04/05/2023 17:03

The trainers are better with those jeans than both those pairs of shoes. More youthful and funky.

Dermadirj · 04/05/2023 17:10

Interesting. Here they are with leggings and with my baggy at home pants, both folded up:

They look really nice with the black leggings.

NurseCranesRolodex · 04/05/2023 17:23

Dermadirj · 04/05/2023 07:22

Thanks all! Yep I think I'm just going to return them. I'd love them if the tongue were just a lot less prominent. Does anyone have any recommendations for a similar shoe but less tongue-ey?

New Balance classic style? Suede and flat like Gazelles.

Avocadoandcheese · 04/05/2023 17:24

LilyRose88 · 04/05/2023 17:19

They look really nice with the black leggings.

They do! Both those last outfits work @Dermadirj

SmileyClare · 04/05/2023 19:27

I like the baggy pants look! You could try some slim joggers with pockets-legs turned up. I’ve got some khaki green ones (from tescos!) you could pair with a black t shirt.
Agree you need some more bare ankle showing.

Also have a look at the skinny cropped flares in the shops, I think they’d look good on you and balance out your top half. Wear with a round neck loose white button shirt- try tucking in just the front into your waist band? Or a casual tee.

A long line vest over the leggings with a cropped denim jacket over the top might look good with the trainers.

bellac11 · 04/05/2023 19:33

Ive got them in black with a black tongue but I find the tongue too long regardless. And they rub on my corn on my little toe.

Bluebellsinbloom41 · 04/05/2023 20:40

TomatoSandwiches · 03/05/2023 23:33

Looks like you haven't utilised all of the lace holes, should be one more set which would help with the tongue.

This.
