Closed toe sandals

Hello, I'm looking for some closed toe sandals (toenails removed years ago, look rank so have to be covered!)

They need a bit of a heel/wedge of 3/4cm as I have problems with my Achilles tendons.

They need to be cheap! I'm very poor!

I've looked at Hotter, Pavers, Sketchers & they all have ones that I like but are all a bit pricey.

I could possibly go up to £50 BUT only if they are perfect. Last year I spent £20 each on 3 different pairs that all didn't fit properly/looked awful/not like the photos (& I'm still gutted at wasting £60 a year later)

I resorted to wearing these kind of trainers from Shoe zone which were lovely & comfortable but very hot for my feet + I got through several pairs as they get discoloured from suncream/go through at the bottom/smell!

I do a fair amount of walking (& sweating!) even with my feet problems.

I'm not allowed to have toes on show at work. Try searching for "woven" sandals/shoes or "cage" sandals/shoes.

KoallaMama · 04/05/2023 22:51

Thank you Salonselectives. I've seen some nice cage ones/gladiator type ones.

Those shoe deodorant products really work. I try to rotate my shoes but if I have overworn a pair a quick spray of shoe deoderising spray can work wonders. I have worn a lot of closed toe sandals because I have blueish white Irish legs and I like to wear a light oyster coloured pantyhose if it's dress up occasion just to take the blue edge off and you can't do that with an open toed shoes. (I know pantyhose are meant to be unfashionable but it beats streaky fake tan although I have now discovered leg makeup.)

Thank you, I know you are all trying to help but the nail on the one side grows back in a claw shape & it's Green too. It's rock hard & thick. There's no way they can cover that with a false nail. I'm glad other people have got theirs sortedSmile

anon They are too high for me.

AmberGer I need a higher wedge on the back due to problems with my Achilles tendons... (But not too high!)

@KoallaMama thats what mine is like, the podiatrist took it off (painless) and then created a new nail. I have some spray treatment but if it grows back grim again I’ll just repeat the removal and false nail.

It might be cheaper in the long run to save up for some better quality shoes. It sounds like the ones you are buying are falling apart quite quickly. And 'cheap' shoes aren't that cheap!

Find the Hotter ones you like on Vinted , I got a pair for £12 still unused.

Find a podiatrist who will make you a false nail. I also have terrible big toe nails and wasn’t wearing open shoes, or even going swimming. I went to get them sorted and she put on these amazing nails and for the first time for ten years I’m contemplating my Birkenstocks again! They’re not perfect but they pass and certainly aren’t rank anymore . Didn’t cost much either. Mine were very very bad.

How long will the nail last for? I'm in the same position and I use false nails (the largest ones from a set of finger nails, so I keep running out!) but they don't always stick well and I dread one falling off. They look pretty convincing though, with polish on.

KoallaMama · 05/05/2023 09:37

Yes Flyinggeese (although I don't like Brown) I've seen those & that sort of thing is perfect.

Dobby I know what you mean. I had this discussion with the physio & there wasn't really an easy answer, you are supposed to alternate daily so you need at least 2 pairs ideally so that leads me back to cheaper but more than one.

My espadrilles lasted a few years tbh, probably because of the thick soles. I think it's the thin soles where I'm heavy footed as well, they just aren't strong enough for me!

stillherenow Oh, I don't know if I'm brave enough! When I had mine taken off the numbing injections hurt like an absolute fuckerSad
Then it was very painful & long healing & I could hardly walk & it's just not do-able now with the school run (& I have to walk it as I don't drive)
I'm glad it worked for you though!

Violasaremyfavorite Pantyhose as in tights? I live in tights & dresses all winter.
I actually didn't realise there were foot sprays like that, I'll have a look thank you.

Thank you AmberGer but they are probably too high. I love the colour of the Pinky ones!

Riverlee · 05/05/2023 13:58

or these

Other closed toe sandals available and they come in different colours.

May not be as stylish as some of the other suggestions, but Hottervshoes tend to be well made so good for walking etc.

Riverlee I like those I'm just not sure with the price. Do you know how the sizes are? Come up small etc?

sparkysdream I like the 2nd ones.

Watching for ideas as the podiatrist lopped half my manky big toe nail off this year and threatened surgical removal - walking injury/foot run over by luggage - not painful in any way but quite thick and nasty looking. Last year at least it was in one piece!

stillherenow · 05/05/2023 22:16

@Itwasnaeme i think I had it done on Feb and it’s still fine. I reckon I’ll need another session later in the summer perhaps. I’ll keep doing it/if until a healthy nail grows
I really felt nothing when she took my nail off, there was no numbing injection, and she just confidently clipped it all out . Weird.

stillherenow · 05/05/2023 22:16

It cost £45 so well worth it

Itwasnaeme · 05/05/2023 22:32

Wow, @stillherenow that's a long time! Is it basically superglued on, or am I misunderstanding what it is? I'd love to get this done, I wonder do all podiatrists do stuff like that...

KoallaMama · 06/05/2023 06:58

Sorry stillherenow I think I misunderstood. I had my original big toenails taken off as they were damaged, & that involved injections & took an hour then weeks of recovery.

Hopefully, just removing this Green, manky one now would be less of an ordeal.

I’m not sure it was a liquid she painted on and it hardened to look pretty realistic . Not a traditional false nail.

Itwasnaeme · 06/05/2023 14:40

Thank you, definitely going to investigate this!

Oldraver · 06/05/2023 14:50

I've got problem nails so end up wearing pumps most of the time. I dont really like wearing sandals and no socks so with pumps I can wear no-shoe socks or my frilly trainer socks
