Closed toe sandals

Hello, I'm looking for some closed toe sandals (toenails removed years ago, look rank so have to be covered!)

They need a bit of a heel/wedge of 3/4cm as I have problems with my Achilles tendons.

They need to be cheap! I'm very poor!

I've looked at Hotter, Pavers, Sketchers & they all have ones that I like but are all a bit pricey.

I could possibly go up to £50 BUT only if they are perfect. Last year I spent £20 each on 3 different pairs that all didn't fit properly/looked awful/not like the photos (& I'm still gutted at wasting £60 a year later)

I resorted to wearing these kind of trainers from Shoe zone which were lovely & comfortable but very hot for my feet + I got through several pairs as they get discoloured from suncream/go through at the bottom/smell!

I do a fair amount of walking (& sweating!) even with my feet problems.

OP I had a similar problem last year and the year before (fungal nail infection...) and I have bought pairs from this website. I like the Rieker ones but there are others with heels.

Sorry, most of those may be a bit pricey - but there are a few below £50.

endoflevelbaddy · 04/05/2023 14:28

You can get espadrilles everywhere this time of year to suit all budgets and heels heights. I've had them from new look, sainsburys, gap & Debenhams in the past but a quick google will give you some inspiration.

borntobequiet · 04/05/2023 14:54

You can get Menorcan sandals with a slight wedge heel. The toe is “open” but not so much that toes are actually visible. They’re immensely comfortable.

I used to get Earth Spirit (now called Free Spirit) sandals in Shoezone but our store here shut down. The quality is good and they are very comfortable but they have gone up in price from what I’ve seen online. They definitely do closed-toe sandals.

jabbajabbafunday · 04/05/2023 16:36

I love my Toms. They are comfy and if you shop around you can get a bargain.

KoallaMama · 04/05/2023 17:36

Thank you all, some good ideas I'll have a look.

I don't really want a slingback & am a bit wary of espadrilles in case they are too tight across the foot (Would be ok to get them from an actual shop then I can try them on)

Peachy2005 There are some Earth Spirit ones on the site Welshwabbit linked.

I like them but they are pricey. We still have a Shoe zone though so I can have a look.

ithinkican Those are too high for me. I like these ones from eBay though. The write-up is great too 'If your feet are a little fat then chose a larger size' Grin

My toenail fell off a few years ago after I dropped something on it and I just painted the nail bed. No one noticed

Magdachristie · 04/05/2023 18:29

Every Summer my mum gets a false nail on one of her big toes after decades of hiding her toes because the nail had come off. Maybe ask at the local nail salon if they could do that. She loves being able to wear whatever sandals she wants now.

BoredToTearsAgain · 04/05/2023 18:42

I agree with @Magdachristie.

I have a horrible big toe nail which meant I've only worn closed top sandals for the last ten years.

I couldn't believe it when my local nail salon put a false nail on so easily. Why did no one tell me how straight forward it is?

Get yourself to a nail salon, you'll be liberated!

anon1968 · 04/05/2023 20:18

I’ve just bought these from shein, they are the most comfortable sandles i’ve worn tbh, had quite a few pairs from there, very impressed for the price tbh, bought in that colour and black

Find a podiatrist who will make you a false nail. I also have terrible big toe nails and wasn’t wearing open shoes, or even going swimming. I went to get them sorted and she put on these amazing nails and for the first time for ten years I’m contemplating my Birkenstocks again! They’re not perfect but they pass and certainly aren’t rank anymore . Didn’t cost much either. Mine were very very bad.

KoallaMama · 04/05/2023 21:12

Thank you, I know you are all trying to help but the nail on the one side grows back in a claw shape & it's Green too. It's rock hard & thick. There's no way they can cover that with a false nail. I'm glad other people have got theirs sortedSmile

anon They are too high for me.

AmberGer I need a higher wedge on the back due to problems with my Achilles tendons... (But not too high!)

This is a great thread for ideas! Thanks OP. I have some fungal nails 😫 but looking after them v well so hoping to wear sandals with polish this summer, but will still end up in closed toe much of the time no doubt as nail polish not great for the nails. Really like the primrk ones and El Naturalista have some lovely shoes, but what site do people use please?

Petrarkanian · 04/05/2023 22:08

Fitflop did a sandal called Cova a few years ago. I got some on vinted for work.

StarDolphins · 04/05/2023 22:23

To anyone that has fungal nail, I am getting rid of mine currently if this helps…

for 25years I’ve had a severe fungal infection on both my big toes, tried literally everything (Vicks, tea tree, all the paint on stuff, absolutely everything).

since Feb, I’ve been oral flucanazoke (for thrush) weekly (plus rubbing athletes foot cream on jist to help)& I can see new nail! I’m so happy They’ve improved even on the growing out bit so even though I’ve got a while to go, I will risk sandals this summer!

Dr didn’t tell me to do this though so always best to check of course!

They'll be able to file your nail right back (think heavy duty nail file over the whole surface of the toe nail) and then attach a false one.

Wow...so not the usual fungal nail meds? How does doc nor know if you've a prescription? I have athletes foot powder rather than cream.. I am trying Vicks and have tried most everything else but...an electric nail file and no sugar is definitely making them look soo much better. Trying to wear flip-flops around the house etc to keep them in the air... it's a pain. Sorry for derailing OP.

i don’t get a prescription for this, I buy it (it’s one where you have to answer some questions about your thrush symptoms!)

I’d read up on some studies & decided to try it! I think I will get some spray & an electric nail file like you to hurry it along! I should’ve started in the winter really as they’d be sorted by now! I have lived with this for decades & I just want to wear sandals instead of trainers in the summer!

yes sorry op for going off topic!

KoallaMama · 04/05/2023 22:48

It's fine Mikado Smile

I had mine removed nearly 20 years ago now so the manky nail has been growing back since then. Occasionally it falls off & another claw quickly follows (sorry for all the gross nail talk btw, I think you become desensitised to it when you've suffered as long as me) Grin

I've look at fit flops, they have some nice ones but pricey.

I always used to wear Espadrilles. I wore chunky sole ones (but all one level low platform) but got told that it was too much walking wearing cheap shoes that's damaged my tendons... I had Gold, Silver, Blue & Pink (all sparkly!) & I miss them!
