How would you accessorise this dress for a party??

dreamingoaholiday · 27/04/2023 22:08

A reasonably posh do.

I'm clueless, I need help!

Also, do I really have to get my toes out?! I'd rather not. What other kind of shoes could I wear that would feel dressy?

Beautiful dress. Personally I’d go with a silver heel (closed toe just as nice as open)

BrightonMumof3 · 27/04/2023 22:34

I agree! A silver closed toe shoe or sandal, long silver necklace(s) and some silver bangles 💗

HappiDaze · 27/04/2023 23:23

Gorgeous dress

Closed silver or gold shoe would be nice

New Look have some lovely ones

dreamingoaholiday · 28/04/2023 21:21

I like these from New Look but I don't think I could walk in them these days!

I've not worn heels since before lockdown, and I'm massive!

Can anyone recommend some shops to look at?

Thanks :)

Or, am I being a wuss?! Maybe I should try them...

TheHandbag · 28/04/2023 21:24

Try them on and see although could those shoes be a bit clunky for the dress?

Where did you get the dress from? It's beautiful.

dreamingoaholiday · 28/04/2023 22:30

They do look clunky don't they!

I'm having trouble finding anything that's not open toed, but still nice.

Any help much appreciated!

The dress is from Monsoon, it's half price at the moment (£75).

What about something like these? (top left, or the bottom row).

Still too clunky / old lady?

L K Bennett
LK Bennett would be my go to for pretty, dressy shoes.

I never wear open toed shoes. The sandals that the dress is modeled with are horrific and look completely wrong.

I'm not sure Sad

I haven't worn heels for years and besides the practicalities of walking in heels when fat and almost certainly tipsy, stilettos just aren't me.

FFS, this dressing up stuff is hard! So much easier when I was young and slim!

Very pretty but no seasonal - unless you're thinking ahead to winter? It's covered in snowflakes which doesn't seem right for spring/ summer!

dreamingoaholiday · 28/04/2023 22:39

It's for a work do, btw.

OP posts:
dreamingoaholiday · 28/04/2023 22:42

Oh, I think you're right. I just saw them as stars!

But if it fits, I don't care is it's not seasonal. It's really hard to find clothes that suit when you're:

a. large, round and saggy. Can't wear anything with a waist.
b. getting old, not into showing a lot of flesh for various reasons
c. not into a lot of mainstream fashion! Actually, not really into fashion at all

LizzieSiddal · 28/04/2023 22:46

i think the dress is lovey and also see stars rather than snowflakes. my only worry is how warm you may feel in it- it may be too warm for spring/summer.

LizzieSiddal · 28/04/2023 22:47

Should have added, could you not go for the same style but thinner fabric?

dreamingoaholiday · 28/04/2023 22:48

So much of women's occasion wear is body hugging or revealing, or both.

And now even the bloody shoes all show your toes! I'm sure it wasn't like that a decade ago, was it? Lots of open toe shoes, sure, but not blimmin all of them

I want to wear something nice and go out and feel comfortable in front of all my colleagues, not show my body off, why should I have to? I don't expect to see Dave from accounts in a backless top, or for him to get his toes out, why should I have to?

It all seems like hard work having to preen every bloody bit of your body to put it on show! But then again, finding outfits I like where I don't have to do that is proving hard, too.

Sorry probably the wrong time and place for a rant! Just feeling a bit bloody fed up with it all. I would love to wear something nice and feel good about it, but now I'm size 24, it's much harder work than it should be!

They are definitely snowflakes. It's a winter dress. Very pretty so wear it anyway if you love it, but you may want something cooler if it's hot.

It's for an event in 3 weeks. The long range forecast goes up to 5 days before and it's still looking pretty cold (9 or 10 degrees) - but May can be unpredictable, so, yes, it might be good to have something else up my sleeve!

If you have any idea where that is, in a size 24, I'd be over the moon! I've been trawling shops for days...

I also think it looks like a winter dress. The stars/downloaded, fabric and color are all winter party dress. That's why it's so cheap.

What kind of event? You say work, but drinks, dinner, clients there?

Yes, all of that. A big "do". Not formal, or black tie, but still, an occasion. Lots of women who manage to look effortlessly stylish and groomed (I know it's probably far from effortless in reality).

Just put your size into John lewis website, there’s over 600 dresses Grin
