What SPF 50 product do you use on your face?

ChunkyCheese · 25/04/2023 14:39

I have hyperpigmentation and issues with dry ageing skin and finding the right foundation for my skin.
In experimenting with this I am wondering if I am using the wrong brand of sunscreen and that might be causing the problem.
At the moment I just use Ambre Solaire factor 50. What sunscreen do you use on your face under make up?
Thanks.

Came On to say heliocare, only facial sunscreen which keeps my melasma and hyper pigmentation under control!

Would you mind letting me know what the exact product is called or do you have a link? Can you wear it under make up ok? Thanks in advance!

I like Cetaphil moisturiser with Factor 50, I have really sensitive dry skin and this sinks in perfectly without being at all greasy or shiny.

DameCelia · 25/04/2023 17:02

@DailyCake
That list is 'interesting'.
Some good products on there but a couple of duds; drops you mix with moisturiser to add SPF to it, and SPF powder for top ups. Both lovely ideas but neither actually provide SPF adequately.
Lab Muffin on Instagram is very interesting on top up powders and the reason for not mixing SPF with anything.

Cerave moisturiser with spf 50.

Another vote for the Watery Essence. So glad Superdrug now stock it.

Are you moisturising before you apply your SPF?

I’m not, I thought it would reduce the effectiveness of the sunscreen. If you moisturise too, do you leave a gap between applying it or do it together?

I use nivea. I too have hyperpigmentation and this really helps reduce the marks. Factor 50. No white cast. Absorbs quickly. About £10 from Boots.

I haven’t seen this one before. How long did it take to reduce your marks?

@DameCelia I was trying to find the article where several commonly sold sunscreens were tested and many weren't as effective as claimed. I was recently treated for hyperpigmentation and find suncreens either greasy looking or left a white cast. I've got 4 on the go just now, but might try the appropriate La Roche Posay one based on this article

La Roche Posay Sunscreen Review: A Review of The 5 Best La Roche Posay Sunscreens - The Dermatology Review

If you have sensitive skin or you’re struggling with a condition like acne or rosacea, you know how challenging it can be to find a good sunscreen. Many sunscreens include common irritants like fragrance and parabens, while others include pore-clogging...

This is great to read. It’s nice to hear success stories of reducing these marks.

Nivea 50+ Shine Control.

ChunkyCheese · 25/04/2023 17:35

Thank you for all of these suggestions. I must have been using the wrong one because none of you have said you use the same one as me - the Ambre solaire factor 50 general sunscreen 😂.

I think it's only been available for a few months. I have been using it every day under my foundation for probably 3 months now .I like it because its light and sinks straight into my skin. It hasn't taken away the marks but has lightened them. The important thing is to apply it every day rain or shine .I have had the marks lasered too but to be honest that didn't work as well as I had hoped. Also reapply during the day again, say after lunch. Because I have foundation on I simply tap it on over it . Because its light and sinks in quickly it cannot be seen.

Happygirl79 · 25/04/2023 17:40

@ChunkyCheese . Forgot to mention it doesn't make my eyes sting at all either. It's perfect for me and designed specifically for the face.

RampantIvy · 25/04/2023 17:40

I have just started using the Nivea Cellular Luminous Anti Dark Spot Fluid SP50

So have I. I love it. Most moisturisers just sit on my skin and feel sticky. This one doesn't.

IggyAce · 25/04/2023 17:46

I use La Roche posay it was recommended to me by my friend who is a MUA. Doesn’t cause my eyes to sting and feels light.

LadyEloise1 · 25/04/2023 18:12

@ChunkyCheese the Nivea SPF 50 Luminous Anti Dark Spot is a moisturiser with SPF50 rather than a sun cream with SPF 50 iykwim.

napody · 25/04/2023 18:15

Niven shine free.

But I'm going to try the watery essence now it's in superdrug- was always worried about buying a fake!

napody · 25/04/2023 18:15

Nivea obvs

I’m on my second tube of this and I like it

Also recommend this one which is a BB cream with SPF50
