What SPF 50 product do you use on your face?

I have hyperpigmentation and issues with dry ageing skin and finding the right foundation for my skin.
In experimenting with this I am wondering if I am using the wrong brand of sunscreen and that might be causing the problem.
At the moment I just use Ambre Solaire factor 50. What sunscreen do you use on your face under make up?
Thanks.

@SilverGlitterBaubles I use bb cream and suncream even though it's doubling up as I worry the bb cream doesn't give you enough sun protection unless you slather loads on.

Altruist. It got 4 tubes of Amazon for silly cheap price. It the only I can wear the doesn’t feel greasy, leave a white mask or sting my eyes.

La Roche-Posay

I had a melanoma in situ removed from my face last year so massive deal here. I have been using the Garnier one Sali Hughes recommended and liked it but just switched to the L’Oreal Revitalift fluid and I think I prefer it other than the more liquid application. No pilling, no eye stinging or running etc from either. Also I’ve just ordered the Dr Jart+ drops as like the cream but that doesn’t have Spf and the drops have 30 rating. Hoping it can be my base in the summer and on hols.

I have hyperpigmentation in a couple of areas and I use the Colourscience Sunforgettable Total Protection SPF 50. I have tanned olive skin and this leaves no white cast on the face. It very light and hydrating. I feel like it's helped lessen the pigmentation due to the ingredients it contains and since using it definitely not increased any further areas.

I use Clinique superdefense city block and love it.

Altruist face fluid spf50. It dries down to a satin finish on my skin, absorbs quickly, doesn't leave a cast, doesn't pill under make up, it's cheap and it donates a proportion of its profits to an African charity for albino children.
Does my face good, my pocket good and my conscience good. What's not to love?

If you moisturise before applying sunscreen- and that depends on your skin type and the individual sunscreen - let it dry down before applying the sunscreen or it just won't sink in well enough to let your make up sit right and you run the risk of looking oily/greasy.

La Roche Posay because it doesn’t seem to make me sweat or bobble underneath Make-up however it’s expensive and also doesn’t have the star rating so I’m a bit bothered about that. What would it be the equivalent of star wise? It is three for two in boots.

I wouldn't worry too much if it doesn't have a star rating, that is just Boots' own rating system.

As per an European Commission recommendation, they must have the letters UVA in a circle on the label to show they have sufficient UVA protection - this means that the UVA rating is at least one third of the SPF number on the label. So the UVA rating is directly related to the UBV rating. so you could have an SPF of 8 with a 'high' UVA of 4 stars, but that would only mean the UVA rating is still quite low because it's directly related to the SPF number - which is annoying and confusing.

This explains it a bit better - https://www.wondercare.ie/blog/sun-protection-factor-uva-star-rating-and-uvb-explained/
The EC recommends that the UVA protection offered in a sunscreen should be at least one third of the SPF. Sunscreen products meeting this requirement are eligible to display a UVA logo, with the letters UVA enclosed within a circle. If this circle is on your product then you can rest assured that it meets EC Guideline recommendation standards for UVA protection.
^^
La Roche Posay SPF 50+ has the EU symbol which means it has a high UVA rating (at least 16), and also has 'long wave UVA protection', which protects against UVA rays up to 400nm. Basically it's a really good one.

I agree it's pretty pricey, which is why I switched to Garnier Ambre Solaire SPF 50+ fluid - it's basically a dupe of the LRP one. Also, even though they are different brands, both LRP and Garnier are owned by the L'Oreal parent company, so the 'recipe' for both products is probably very similar.

The confusing world of sun protection factor and ratings explained!

Choosing sun protection for your child can be a completely confusing and overwhelming experience! Lingo thrown at you about SPF, UVA, UVB, Star ratings etc from manufacturers of products on their packaging! The confusing world of sun protection factor...

That’s really helpful thank you.

I seem to be allergic to most face sunscreens or BB creams etc with sunscreen in - my eyes react very badly even if I don't put it anywhere near my eyes.

I use Skinnies SPF50 when out in the sun, of the tinted SPF 30 for a day when I'm not. If I can find it as supply is a bit erratic.

Wonderful to wear and my eyes like it.

One by Altruistic. Very moisterising.

xogossipgirlxo · 26/04/2023 11:06

I used these:
https://heliocare.co.uk/products/oil-free-gel
https://vesa.co.uk/products/basiclab-lekka-emulsja-ochronna-spf50-50ml

Both are lovely for oily skin.

Now I need something more nourishing that won't show dehydration on my forehead, so I bought this:

https://tropicskincare.com/products/sun-day-facial-uv-defence?variant=31299123249225

I tried it few times and it's nice, you don't need any moisturiser under it.
