Hairdresser has dyed hair grey!

I am naturally dark brown with 30% grey in patches. My precious hairdresser took me blonde (with highlights) which merged with the greys brilliantly - I got a lot of compliments when it was done last year. Unfortunately I had to go somewhere else today as she has moved and I asked for exactly the same thing. And they have dyed it grey! It looks awful. I feel like I want to cry. Is there anyway to get it blonde without bleaching again? And can anyone recommend a colourist in London (central/Islington/Hackney) as I want to go somewhere that can fix it!

My god I hope you got your money back?!

SkaneTos · 24/04/2023 13:36

I don't have any advice, but I feel for you!

london111 · 24/04/2023 13:38

No. I just wanted to leave and regroup. And look at it properly at home to see if it looked ok once I adjusted my expectations. But it doesn’t. I think she gave a discount as I was clearly upset. But I didn’t want to get into a discussion with her. She said it would look different once washed but I know enough to know it won’t get from grey to blonde!

Silly question but how have you ended up grey from wanting highlights? What did they do?

SkaneTos · 24/04/2023 13:38

Maybe it doesn't look as bad as you think? All over grey looks really really nice on many people. But I understand that it is not what you wanted.

CosyCoffee · 24/04/2023 13:40

Is it the toner they've applied afterwards? If so that would be easy to remove.

AreSomeGoldfishJustDicks · 24/04/2023 13:40

It might be the toner. Mine always look later grey after hairdressers but once you've washed it a few times it usually goes back to blonde.

Cocolapew · 24/04/2023 13:40

Surely its only a toner turning it grey? You can't go grey with just bleach highlights.

london111 · 24/04/2023 13:43

It looks ok styled and freshly cut. But I am not going to do that on a daily basis. Plus I’m in my late 40s so what might look like a statement for a 20 something just looks crap on me. It isn’t even striking grey. The sort of colour that you would think who the hell pays £100s of pounds to colour their hair with that colour

Do you think so? It has never looked grey coming out of the hairdressers before but I am pretty new to bleaching. But will happily wash it if you think that could make a difference! Can I wash it straight away do you know? And does it take 1 wash or more?

Cocolapew · 24/04/2023 13:48

Might take a few washes, head and shoulders is good for removing colour.

lovelthesun247 · 24/04/2023 13:52

Can you not go back to the salon to see a more senior stylist and tell them you are unhappy with it and hopefully they can help you?

michelehu · 24/04/2023 14:06

Almost definitely just over toned. I have baby blonde hair all over and semi regularly walk out with darker grey hair lol. Head and shoulders a few times should lift it. Fairy liquid works too but will need conditioning lots as it's quite stripping

Mirabai · 24/04/2023 14:09

Go back and tell them you’re not happy. It’s their job to fix it in the first instance.

Seas164 · 24/04/2023 14:09

You can't lift dark brown hair to grey, it's the toner as PP have said, which should wash out and then you can tone it again in a different direction. Don't panic.

If you feel up to a discussion with them, and you feel what you got was not what you clearly asked for, then they might offer for you to pop back, it's a fairly quick job.

london111 · 24/04/2023 14:10

Picture attached. It isn’t blonde! Looks greyer at the front that the picture doesn’t really show.

I think it looks nice, it's a really ashy toner, and your natural greys are blending through at the front. You could ask them to warm it up a bit if you'd prefer, but it might do that on it's own over a few washes.

Theoldcuriosityshop · 24/04/2023 14:12

Looks ash blonde to me.

WoofWoofBeachLife · 24/04/2023 14:14

It's definitely the toner OP, just leave your hair to settle and wash as normal and it will come out. Please don't wash your hair with fairy liquid etc. X

Laiste · 24/04/2023 14:15

I recon it'll wash out OP.

Bleach doesn't add grey. If it's not strong enough or not left on long enough it will leave red behind (hence home bleachers going orange) but it won't leave grey.

They've over toned the blonde a bit that's all.

Wash your hair in slightly warmer water than usual - that takes out colour - and maybe shampoo twice gently.

Ronnie2022 · 24/04/2023 14:15

Ash blonde yep not grey !

Laiste · 24/04/2023 14:16

God yes don't use washing up liquid! Who suggested that?

london111 · 24/04/2023 14:17

Just looks so drab to me. I would rather be my old dark brown. I just wanted what I had before. I will wash it a few times and see what impact that has - thank you!

Looks good, not drab.
