Hairdresser has dyed hair grey!

I am naturally dark brown with 30% grey in patches. My precious hairdresser took me blonde (with highlights) which merged with the greys brilliantly - I got a lot of compliments when it was done last year. Unfortunately I had to go somewhere else today as she has moved and I asked for exactly the same thing. And they have dyed it grey! It looks awful. I feel like I want to cry. Is there anyway to get it blonde without bleaching again? And can anyone recommend a colourist in London (central/Islington/Hackney) as I want to go somewhere that can fix it!

Deffo toner a few good washes with a clarifying shampoo will lift that right out !! Stylist here ! X

My hair seems to have gone ashy and I much prefer golden/honey blonde. What toner would you recommend?

Laiste · 24/04/2023 16:24

Can you tell us your old stylisyt's name? We could find them for you?

Unless you know where she's gone and it's a hundred miles away obvs.
although i'd drive a hundred miles for a trusted hairdresser

MysteryBelle · 24/04/2023 16:28

Can you show us a picture of what your hair looked like done correctly by old stylist? So we can compare it to the ‘grey’ pic? Hard to see what you mean exactly, the difference.

FVFrog · 24/04/2023 16:38

I love the colour! Would like mine like that

Vyvyan13 · 24/04/2023 16:45

It’s a toner, it’s just grabbed a bit as your hair has been lifted and soaked up the colour…

A few washes and it will come out and fade softer x

Buy some Shrine Drops from boots online, they usually deliver to store the next day for collection, get the silver one but don't panic because it only goes silver / grey the more drops you add.
Give it a couple of washes with head and shoulders then mix six drops of the Shrine Drops to some silicone free conditioner (you get a mixing bowl and instructions) apply to your hair and leave for 10 minutes then wash out and dry and style.
The drops are purple, it's like a purple shampoo but it's a toner, I use it all the time and it really lifts my blonde / bleach, I have balayage

I love shrine drops but I don't see how the silver toner will help here?
It would be slightly brighter but it sounds like the op wants a warmer tone I think

I would suggest you go to Not another salon in London. You will certainly pay an arm and a leg for it but the end result will most likely be closer to what you were hoping to achieve.

london111 · 24/04/2023 19:28

Thank you everyone for all the advice - you have made me feel a lot better. I will wash it a few times and see what it looks like. I’ve read you can’t put another toner on for a few weeks anyway so will wait and see.

unfortunately my old hairdresser is taking an extended break in Turkey so a bit too far to travel - although I might find myself considering it at this rate! Thanks for all the recommendations of places to try next.

Hard advice, feel free not to take it.

The colour is fine, it's the cut that says nowt.

I'm older than you and I really feel that the most aging (if you're worried about such things) is the neat late 40s haircut. Set it free!

I really want to muss your hair.

No offence taken! Funnily my old hairdresser (the brilliant one!) said she liked my hair a little longer and messier. The trouble is it is really fly away and unless I blow dry it one side flicks in and the other side flicks out so I think looks a bit crap when longer.

I agree it's not grey, just a very ashy, ash blonde. As everyone has said, a few washes will tone it down

featheryfancy · 24/04/2023 19:52

I know it's not helpful if you're upset, but I genuinely do really like it.
Give it a couple of washes. When I was very blonde I'd tend to go a murky grey off certain toners before it washed out to blonde again. I have a tendency to go brassy so would rather than that warm tones.
Hope it washes out to something you're happier with!

whirlyswirly · 24/04/2023 20:04

This has recently happened to me. It took 2 weeks to wash out and look nice and tonal again. Don't panic yet.

Puffalicious · 24/04/2023 20:20

OP, I'm pretty grey/ white these days (51, so older than you). I get hi-lights, like you, to merge the grey. I always come out looking very steely/ purpley after the toner. I like this look, though- I find it more modern than the honey look, but if you prefer that, good stuff.

After 2 weeks it reverts to a blonde, like in the picture. I've shown you my roots as well to show how the grey merges. I've not had colour done in 8 weeks- I only have it done every 12.

Persevere.

PS Ignore the PJ top - it's cold here so in PJs already!

That’s no where near grey.

It’s ashy blonde, wash it a few times and the toner will calm down. Don’t use purple shampoo that will make it more “grey”.

I used to go here when I lived in London: https://beboplondon.com/ - Pont is brilliant with colour and rescued mine when I went way too blonde by another hairdresser.

Go back to the hairdresser op, yes looks grey. They will sort it for you good luck

Thegoodbadandugly · 07/05/2023 18:22

Looks blond to me op looks nice

Greenfairydust · 07/05/2023 18:25

A good tip if you have ash blonde colour on your hair: mix lemon juice with conditioner and leave for a bit. It will sort out the grey tones.

I had some issues when colouring my hair ash blond at home: it came out too greyish but the lemon juice and conditioner trick brought out the blond tones.

Camdenish · 07/05/2023 18:30

@user1477249785 I came on to say go to Windle in Covent Garden. They will sort it out for you but it will cost £. Personally I think your hair looks ok but they'll be able to make it look wonderful. Mia is a magician with hair but as far as I'm aware isn't a colourist. I'd go to any of the colourists there that are available and to her for your next cut.

LuluBlakey1 · 07/05/2023 18:31

I think it's a lovely colour- a true honey blonde.
We have the same wallpaper as you.😁

Theoldcuriosityshop · 24/04/2023 14:12

Looks ash blonde to me.

Yes, this. Dark ash blonde is my natural colour and yes it looks grey OP! Especially at the roots. But it only looks so dark in the shadows, where the light hits it looks blond which is why it's looking lighter on the photo. It'll lighten as the sun gets to it over the summer too. Any time I've used any hair dye, any colour, it always looks darker until after the first wash.

MrsCarson · 07/05/2023 19:19

Looks ash Blond, mine looks like that after the hairdressers. Then by day two it's back to a much lighter blond.
