Hairdresser has dyed hair grey!

I am naturally dark brown with 30% grey in patches. My precious hairdresser took me blonde (with highlights) which merged with the greys brilliantly - I got a lot of compliments when it was done last year. Unfortunately I had to go somewhere else today as she has moved and I asked for exactly the same thing. And they have dyed it grey! It looks awful. I feel like I want to cry. Is there anyway to get it blonde without bleaching again? And can anyone recommend a colourist in London (central/Islington/Hackney) as I want to go somewhere that can fix it!

Just looks so drab to me. I would rather be my old dark brown. I just wanted what I had before. I will wash it a few times and see what impact that has - thank you!

Try the salon recommended above, I feel your pain. It's a shame your old stylist moved on.

It’s definitely the toner, they’ve used an ashy colour, it will wash out/fade over a couple of weeks just with normal washing. Next time you go ask for a warmer toner, maybe an icy or honey blonde. They should have swatches to give you an idea of the final colour outcome.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 24/04/2023 14:26

Looks great but that is irrelevant if you don’t like it OP. You can try and wash it out a bit but tbh toner reacts differently on different hair so that might not work. My DD had a toner (which she liked) and the hairdresser said it would not last too long and she would probably have to go back fairly often. It didn’t ever really fade all that much, clung on for dear for ages (which she was totally happy about).

henrilechat · 24/04/2023 14:26

Without meaning to sound rude, yes it does look a bit drab to me too. But it doesn't really matter if everyone else likes it, it's your hair and it's not what you wanted.
It looks like ash blonde and you wanted more of a warm blonde by the sound of it. You could buy a different toner and give it a go yourself

StillWantingADog · 24/04/2023 14:38

i actually like it.
fingers crossed you’ll be happier with it after a few washes.

Bigpinktrain · 24/04/2023 14:44

It’s quite a cold ashy blonde, wouldn’t say grey.
Could you call them and say you aren’t happy? I used to go to Johnnys in Clapton, I only stopped because we moved house! They are great and I would really recommend them for a fair priced good quality l hairdressers

SirVixofVixHall · 24/04/2023 14:49

Too cool and ashen for you.
Vosene is what all my old punk/goth friends used to wash out bright colours. Also a clay mask, I once used a clay body mask on my hair to lift colour, it took out all the ashy toner in one go.
Strip what you can and then get somewhere else to put more warmth onto your hair with a different toner, or use an at home gloss or glaze in a caramel/ honey type colour.

NancyJoan · 24/04/2023 14:56

It is the toner, but I'm also not sure they've lifted your natural colour enough. Might need a bit more bleach.

DustyLee123 · 24/04/2023 14:56

I agree that it does look grey at the front, and there’s more blonde at the back so it looks uneven.

Im99912 · 24/04/2023 14:57

Can you not find the orginal stylist on FB it Instagram. I’m sure a bit of stalking on line and you would find her

Mirabai · 24/04/2023 15:02

Go back and tell them you’re not happy. It could be fixed with some warmer highlights at the front.

Londontown12 · 24/04/2023 15:02

Deffo toner a few good washes with a clarifying shampoo will lift that right out !! Stylist here ! X

Arewehumanorarewecupboards · 24/04/2023 15:07

If your usual stylist hasn’t moved far could you not still use them?
Mine moved an hour and a half away and I still see her because I trust her, she knows me and my hair.

My DS does a lot of colour correction work. He is based SW London but does travel.

ProstituteHair · 24/04/2023 15:50

It's not grey, but yes, try a toner if you're not happy.

Birdsmakingnests · 24/04/2023 15:52

Fairy up liquid will strip out toner! Then condition!

Campervangirl · 24/04/2023 15:56

Buy some Shrine Drops from boots online, they usually deliver to store the next day for collection, get the silver one but don't panic because it only goes silver / grey the more drops you add.
Give it a couple of washes with head and shoulders then mix six drops of the Shrine Drops to some silicone free conditioner (you get a mixing bowl and instructions) apply to your hair and leave for 10 minutes then wash out and dry and style.
The drops are purple, it's like a purple shampoo but it's a toner, I use it all the time and it really lifts my blonde / bleach, I have balayage

ProstituteHair · 24/04/2023 15:57

Hard advice, feel free not to take it.

The colour is fine, it's the cut that says nowt.

I'm older than you and I really feel that the most aging (if you're worried about such things) is the neat late 40s haircut. Set it free!

I really want to muss your hair.

TokyoSushi · 24/04/2023 15:59

Almost the exact same thing happened to me, as others have said, it's the toner! Took me about 4 washes to get mine out.

Iknowthis1 · 24/04/2023 16:10

Use a clarifying shampoo. It'll take the toner out quicker

dottiedodah · 24/04/2023 16:14

If its Ash Blonde ,I had this last year .Really upset ,few washes great again!

user1477249785 · 24/04/2023 16:18

OP I'm just here to say that Mia at Windle in Covent Garden is a hair goddess. If you are looking for someone who listens and has a magic touch, go and see her.
