What on earth do I do with a chin bob?

I asked for a funky chin length bob. I got the triangle of doom.

It's all one inch below my ear. She thinned it out but said layers would make it stick up everywhere and would look too blocky.

She also cut my fringe so that it bounces up, giving me a wonderful Lloyd Christmas look so that's exciting.

This is it airdried with a sea salt spray scrunched in. I think we can agree this attempt is a fail! 🤣My hair is wavy (sometimes almost curly) but something about this cut just makes my hair sort of just hang.

So... help! I haven't a clue what products or tools I need to fight the frumpy isosceles? She said something about texture? I am fighting the desire to curl the ends under...

What on earth do I do with a chin bob?

Throw on some red lipstick and own it! It's really hard to tell from the photo since we can't see your face shape.

Either that or give it a really good blow dry, smoothing it into a nice shiny straight bob.

I really like it! Agree with the red lipstick comment but that's mostly just because I love it

Frizz ease for your waves. May be mousse too. The least it will do is calm your frizz but if you scrunch if it will bring out your curls.

Straighten the fringe

looks nice I think.

I think the only solution is a full face of make-up and time for it to grow!

I mean it looks cool to me from this but if you wanted a sleeker look you could straighten it?

I did think about the whole red lipstick thing but I do need some sort of styling. Especially as clothes wise I've lost my way.

I know this cut does nothing for me! I didn't realise how wobbly my jaw line was until it was visible from every angle. I also have a long face and this emphasises the length of my chin.

The long grow out started as soon as she announced she was finished. 🤣 I need some coping mechanisms to survive the next few months though!

You could pin both sides back, like a half up half down, to reduce the triangle effect.

It really doesn't look cool in real life. Right now it looks like it was left to airdry on a windy beach. Really, not a good look even for the super funky. There is intentionally messy and there is I haven't bothered to do my hair for a month and this is definately the later!

Maybe the b&w photo doesn't help. Sorry, my son was messing with my phone and I don't know how to make my photos colour again. 🤣

As I say, I've lost my way clothes wise so look a bit disheveled/scruffy/like I don't care anyway. Add unstyled hair and I just look like someone who has given up. I'm fighting hard not to go there.

I don't want super sleek. That will look really frumpy.

I mean it looks great in the photo! Would some light mousse give you a bit more control over it?

I’ve been seriously tempted to get a chin bob lately, but really I just want a whole new head. But, same as you, there’s the very real risk of them making it worse rather than turning me into a 40-something cool girl (woman).
The one I had as a teen was good (cut by Mum). The one I had in my 20s was horrific (did the layers, like you mentioned & my wavy hair just turned into old lady curls. Took three years to grow back).
Like you, I know the hair I want... But not sure I’ll get it. Also my jowl / chin situation didn’t factor in last time I had a bob... I know the way that you want your triangle to fall. Why can’t it be done? It’s a haircut that does exist, after all. Also, fringes and wavy hair. I’ve been there, too!

That fringe, ugh.
For the rest of it, sounds like your hair is rather like mine - wavy to curly but can go limp with a less than perfect cut. What helps with my hair is having the top intact and the bottom layers heavily texturized. That will give it more spring from below if that makes sense. Takes a while to train a new stylist since apparently they get trained to do the opposite. During the pandemic I did some self-help with thinning shears but it took lots of courage! Otherwise, as pp have said, a good curl mousse like FrizzEase helps, crunching them up helps. I air dry or if electric drying is absolutely unavoidable use a diffuser.

Weeeelll... I have thinning/receeding temples, hence the full fringe. When I tie my hair up, I look like I have 2 huge bald patches (I even get sunburn on them). I discovered that a bit of root spray and fluffing reduced their appearance, however my hair is currently dyed copper (quickly turning an interesting shade of tangerine) so no root spray will match. Plus, the one positive from this cut, is that my hair seems to fall in a way that hides those patches.

Babyliss big hair is good for smoothing a bob

We can't even see the chin shape- so its really had to add a comment! What length did you have before? What length/style do YOU think suits your face? When you say they thinned it, do you mean used thinning shears? I had this- but done FAR too high once and it left hairs sticking out all over for months!

I'd twist and pin back each side, head band, straighten, curl or pin back fringe if that is an issue.

I hear you. It is only hair though so nothing permanent and my hair situation right now is quite funny really. You'd think I'd know better by my age! But every few years I decide to do something stupid and end up back here. 🤣

You might love it though, particularly if you've had similar in the past. Maybe think about what you didn't like about the one in your 20s?

I did not consider the jawline situation though and even if I sort the mad hair, this length emphasises the less positive sides of my of my profile! (Adds face yoga to my to do list).

Looks cute. Dress kooky till it grows out. Spend time on hair and make up to give you a confidence boost. And a few new clothes from a cheap shop?

Honestly if I thought it would look like that I'd get my hair cut like that tomorrow...I feel like it's not a bad Christmas tree shape if it's soft and wispy like that. Mine would hang like velvet curtains.

Isn't that basically this haircut? If so, you're in style:

Oh no! Not for this one! 🤣 That would just emphasise the triangle! Fab for longer styles though, I agree.

Yes, she really chopped into the ends.
Oddly, it makes them sort of just stick down if that makes sense. I think that's part of what I don't like actually. I'm not sure how to articulate it.

Right, so I'll try mousse tomorrow. Just scrunch it up?

I'm going to a works party tomorrow night. We'll see if anyone mentions my hair or if it is politely ignored. 🤣

It’s very Julia from Motherland!!
I was tempted by a chin length Bob recently but thankfully my hairdresser spoke sense, I have difficult wavy thick hair and I’d never be arsed to put the time in and I’d have to live for too long without putting it up - that’s my go to lazy hair option!
I like yours from what I can see of it in your photo, mine would not look like this.
On the other hand you sound quite laid back about it (as I would be other than realising I’d have to spend my time actually doing something to it!) - it does grow!

I think it looks really nice. Your hair looks quite dry in the photo? Treating that might it look the more sleek side of tousled.

I’d also experiment with loose, beachy waves. I think you might prefer it more if it had that ‘no make up, but actual make up on’ look.
