What on earth do I do with a chin bob?

I asked for a funky chin length bob. I got the triangle of doom.

It's all one inch below my ear. She thinned it out but said layers would make it stick up everywhere and would look too blocky.

She also cut my fringe so that it bounces up, giving me a wonderful Lloyd Christmas look so that's exciting.

This is it airdried with a sea salt spray scrunched in. I think we can agree this attempt is a fail! 🤣My hair is wavy (sometimes almost curly) but something about this cut just makes my hair sort of just hang.

So... help! I haven't a clue what products or tools I need to fight the frumpy isosceles? She said something about texture? I am fighting the desire to curl the ends under...

You need a product on your hair to style it (add boompf and body), blow dry it then use a babyliss big hair to make it look blow dried but casual.

I like the cut but I see what you mean it’s like she has cut it too short, it’s above your jawline by the looks of the photo. But that should look great when it’s grown out a little. I also love the slightly messy fringe.

I can't see anything wrong with it, and would be more than happy if mine looked like that.

I’d say go to another hairdresser and get layers. You could give it a better shape with a twist of a hair straightener opposite ways each time (like how you would score a ribbon with scissors). Like dropped curls or waves.

I cut my DDs hair that length and without some layers and wave she’s convinced she looks like Lord Farquaad 😆

I was going to suggest something along the lines of what @7eleven posted.

Blow dry for volume at the part/crown and to smooth it. Then use curler or tongs to add waves.

That's all a huge pain in the arse of course but will look great when you need it to. Hats and messy buns the rest of the time!

Oh OP, you made me laugh. At least you have a sense of humour about it. It's hard to gauge as we can't see your face. Hopefully in a month or so it will be long enough to tie back until it grows out if that's what you want to do.

I think a selection of headbands, scarfs and hair accessories will soon be your style. The ones for hair loss would work and you could just leave waves / curls at the back.

Try putting gel in wet hair and curling with your fingers.

Oh and if you really hate it you could wear a wig, some come on headbands.

I have v thick wavy hair and a shott Bob. It would be triangular if my v clever hairdresser didn't razor a big undercut into the back first. That makes it sit beautifully, whether I dry it sleek or messy. Is this an option?

Right OK so add some sort of wave/curl. But what products do I use to do this? I'm normally a serum and heat protectant and that's it type of gal. I have no idea how to do hair.

The salt spray just made it frizzy and crispy but TBH I've never really got the hang of salt spray at any length. Theoretically I think my hair (at least when longer) is the perfect candidate for salt spray so probably user error.

I've tried the VO5 gel type stuff you use on wet hair when air drying. That's OK on longer hair but seems heavy or something for this length.

I'll try scrunching mousse and air drying today. I've never got the hang of mousse either but maybe it was just that I was using it on the wrong hair? Looks optimistically at the dusty can of mousse dug out from the back of the cupboard.

I tried tonging a couple of days ago. I only have one of the thinish cone shaped tongs. I normally really like the effect on longer hair. Now they had fallen out before they'd cooled. I'll try again but I don't want really want to use much higher temps if I'm growing my hair.

I've never been able to do curls with straighteners but maybe I'll have more success with shorter hair? I can't remember the last time I used straighteners!

I'll try the babyliss big hair but I really think that will emphasise the triangle and also look quite dated.

On the plus side, it's tipping it down today and very damp feeling and it's meant to continue like this all day so everyone will have bad hair for the party tonight, not just me!

A guy was getting an undercut when I was in and I did think about that. I don't feel like I have enough hair for that though?

Now I remember why the mousse was hidden away. It is not a good idea. My hair is now all stringy looking and still has no shape.

So, the cut seems to have got rid of my waves/curls (is that possible?) and I think I will need to use heat. What products do I need?

Your hair looks/sounds very similar to my hair! It's pretty wavy with some curls at shoulder-length but if you cut it short the waves disappear (apparently that is common with waves as opposed to curls).

My hair hates all the products that should work with wavy hair, like sea salt spray, mousse, gel, conditioner in fact. I get the best look at bob length from any old shampoo, gently brushing when soaking wet, squishing it up with a t shirt, air drying, and then running curl creme through it.

I also have a fringe and it was well above my eyebrows this morning when I washed it, I ran the straighteners through and now it's kind of in my eyes. So that should make a huge difference - my top tip is do it before the straighteners get up to full heat, then it doesn't look like it's been straightened.

If frizz is the issue I really recommend blow dry/hot brush quite straight first to get it really sleek. Then add curls back in with curlers/tongs.

It's a disaster today, and sticking up everywhere and won't brush down (probably the mousse from yesterday). I'm not going out and can't be bothered to wash it so will go off and search for some clips for my video calls. Why is it, you find them everywhere when you haven't used any for months but as soon as you need one, they vanish?

I'm not convinced that smoothing it down/babyliss big hair-ing will give a good look. I suspect it will increase the triangle and make it look really old fashioned but I'll give it a go and fingers crossed you can all say "told you so!". 🤣

second vote for frizz ease mousse, the dream curls one, just scrunch it in to damp hair.
i would try a side part whilst keeping the fringe, and tuck behind one ear.
also, I had bald temples, Regaine worked really well.

This is the cut I've had every single time I've gone to the hairdressers asking for a long bob. I now cut my own hair! That being said I don't think it looks that bad on you from what I can see.
As others have said I would use straighteners on your fringe to smooth it down, and leave the rest with its natural wave. Shockwaves volumising mousse is good if you want thicker looking hair. Or you could use a volumising powder on the roots if you want to lift it away from the triangle shape.

To me that main thing that's wrong with the picture is that the fringe is straight while the rest is wavy. It looks a bit unnatural. Could you wet the fringe and let it dry naturally so it looks a bit looser and softer?

To be honest I’d go back to the hairdresser. It’s not a good cut for your hair and needs a bit of adjustment.

I had similar with a cut with a new hairdresser a couple of years ago - complete triangle. I rang and asked if I could go back and he completely re-cut it. It was much better.

Otherwise I was trying to avoid heat on my hair recently as it was getting quite damaged and I bought JVN Air Dry Cream and it’s pretty good. Doesn’t go crispy. I kind of scrunch it into my hair and just leave it.

I have wavy/curly hair and this wouldn't suit me at all.

I think a short pointy bob only looks great on ultra straight hair. Otherwise it just looks messy.

In your situation I would probably invest in some decent straighteners or pay a hairdresser to straighten my hair once or twice a week.

I have the same hair and cut as you. If you want nice waves then use shampoo and conditioner with no silicon in. Also what does your hair do when it is drizzling? Mine forms into beautiful ringlets so I now spritz my hair with water every morning and let it dry and it has lovely curls in it. I sometimes put mousse in but only when it is really wet and only a tiny bit and then really thoroughly work it in with my fingers.

If it still isn't behaving you could ask for long choppy layers to be put it.
