I've been using the same leather wallet for 28 years- can anyone beat that?

I was given a gift of a wallet 28 years ago & I've used it continuously since the day I got it.

I lost it once and a tourist found it, brought it home with them & posted it back to me very unexpectedly! I was sure it was a goner that time. I'd already had it a few years by that stage.

It arrived in my post box one day with lovely note & all the contents intact.

I've been given other wallets over the years but just never took to them

I'd quite like to upgrade it now (it's fairly battered) but I feel weirdly disloyal to it & it's long years of service!

Does anyone else have an everyday item in daily use this long?

I have 2(!) dressing gowns bought in C&A, one has only recently gone to bits, the other still in regular use.

I can't beat 28 years, but I have used it multiple times daily for 23 years.

Oh I love these stories 😍

I've been using my keyring 10 years now!

I'm generally quite profligate & buy lots of clothes & shoes etc. It's just the wallet that's a constant really

My dad still uses a wallet I got from Club Nintendo when I was 11.

I'm 44.

Lola001 · 01/03/2023 15:03

Oh I love that idea, I bet it's absolutely gorgeous and battered and has stories. I bet you've paid for things at such different times of life with that wallet. Is it to outting to say I want to see it?

This post reminded me of the broom and Trigger scene in Only Fools and Horses Grin

I have a hairbrush given to me when I was 7. I still use it. I'm past 50!

magicstar1 · 01/03/2023 15:14

I'm still using a keyring an elderly neighbour gave me in my teens (33 years ago). It's really strong and I like that it reminds me of him...he was a lovely man.

In excellent news it means we haven't lost our keys/wallet/whatever in decades.

(touches wood).

I have had a new look long skirt that was a size 10 and it was bought in 1993! It's still going strong 30 years later despite me now being a size 16. I wear it all the time!

Andylion · 06/03/2023 23:27

I have a hair pick I bought in high school. I am in my 50s.

Whowaswotsit · 06/03/2023 23:29

I bought my hairbrush in 2000. I bought a new rucksack last year having bought my previous one in 1997.

I have a St Michael ( M & S ) cotton summer dressing gown - must be 30 years old

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 06/03/2023 23:36

I still occasionally wear a jumper I got from a stall in Bonny Street Market in Blackpool in 1983. (It's called that now, and I think it was called that then...) I got the jumper because it was really cold one afternoon, and I had gone out with a short sleeved T-shirt on.

It cost £5.99 which was quite a lot in 1983 really. But it's still in very good condition, and still fits. Grin I have photos of me wearing it in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s ,and 2020s.

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 06/03/2023 23:36

Forgot to add, yep my jumper is 40 years old this year!

A wooden fish key fob. Bought in Crater Lake about 25 years ago. It was painted (and beautiful) when I got it and people used to get a scare - think it was a small fish.

Paint is almost all off it so it doesn't look so fishy anymore but I can't change it. Can always find it in my bag and I'm very attached to it. I bet the person who carved it never imagines it would still be in use.

My mum knitted a scarf for me when i was 4 or 5. She knitted a matching one for herself. Recently i was digging through the back of my wardrobe and unearthed the scarf. And I've been wearing it since then. 40 odd years later. I think its the one she made for herself as it seems to be adult sized (or childhood me walked around with a giant scarf)

cassiatwenty · 06/03/2023 23:45

Can we see pictorial evidence please?

Ineedwinenow · 06/03/2023 23:49

I still use my first gen GHD straighteners ( my hairdresser bought them for me in 2001 as you could only get them from salons when they first came out)

I still use my hairbrush from a gift set I was given when I was 11 or 12

my childhood teddy is still on my bed and I say good morning and good evening to him every day ( I had him when I was born)

I still have ( but no longer use ) my bed socks from when I was a child, weirdly I can’t bear to part with them even though they are definitely ready for the bin

I’m 42

I like that! I have one that I bought in my year abroad about 33 years ago 😊

Small tin with a picture of Jemima Puddleduck on it which I got as a child 40 years ago on holiday in the Lake District. It perfectly held 3 non-applicator tampons lol

Since menopause I now use it to store stitch markers for knitting.

Appleblum · 06/03/2023 23:54

That's so lovely! Can you post a pic OP? I would love to see it!

Emptycrackedcup · 06/03/2023 23:55

Same car (1994 model) for 23 years, and it still goes perfectly. Has had no major repairs
