Hair goes greasy in less than 24hours

Looking for an inexpensive way to help my constantly greasy hair!!

I have combination skin, dry in some patches and oily in others, so I know there is only so much I can do to help my scalp.

If I wash my hair of a morning, the following morning it looks like it desperately needs washing. Oily at the roots but also dry frizzy ends.

At the moment I’m using a basic Pantene pro-v shampoo (shampooing twice) and a dove conditioner (only at the ends). Occasionally using one of the garnier hair masks. I generally get whatever shampoo and conditioners are on offer in boots

I use a tresemme heat protectant and blow dry with a Dyson.

Any suggestions without it costing me a fortune? I’m guessing I should be starting off with a clarifying shampoo for any product buildup

I used to have this problem. Try t gel for greasy hair as it clears up the scalp and hot stay clean

also double wash if you don’t already

Slimjimtobe · 26/02/2023 16:09

Hair (not hot)

Perhaps you need to break the cycle of daily washing? You make be inadvertently trigger all the oil due to such frequent washing?

Take a week off life outside your house and live with greasy hair and see what happens.

Sometimes it can be a reaction to SLS.

TomatoSandwiches · 26/02/2023 16:10

Tea tree oil shampoo helped my hair.

Decorhate · 26/02/2023 16:12

Is there a reason why you can’t wash your hair every day? I do or otherwise it annoys me by the evening of the second day. I use a “clean” type of shampoo (Tresemme at the moment) & condition the ends. I used to use Pantene Smooth & Sleek but that seems to have been discontinued so am trying some of their new range

Newnamedaily · 26/02/2023 16:13

Don’t wash your hair daily. I wash my hair every 5 days and have no greasy hair whatsoever.
Also my hairdresser confirmed this..
The more you wash it, the more it gets greasy.

I was going to say this. I was in hospital for 10 days then couldn't shower easily afterwards because of surgical wounds. I had been a daily washer until then. A bit of time off and it improved vastly.

Testng123 · 26/02/2023 16:17

Definitely don't shampoo twice. Try a tiny amount of shampoo and use dry shampoo on alternative days to break the cycle.

doingmyboxin · 26/02/2023 16:20

My hair needs washed every day. I wash it every second day though.

I tried the no wash tactic during lockdown and it made no difference, so here for the suggestions!

AnonymousAli · 26/02/2023 16:20

I don’t wash my hair daily, I’m too lazy 🤣 usually every other day, but I’ll go 3 days if I’m staying home and no one is seeing my greasy hair!!

Same! Dry shampoo is the only thing that gets me through

Baxdream · 26/02/2023 16:23

Following with interest! I'm currently trying the new olaplex dry shampoo which is amazing! Gets me to 3 days so I'm hoping it might train my hair too 😂
Double shampoo seems to help me though

Weelegs29 · 26/02/2023 16:24

L'oreal do a shampoo & conditioner specifically for greasy roots/dry ends. Its called extreme clay and comes in a greeny colour bottle. This was the only one I found made any difference.

purplecorkheart · 26/02/2023 16:25

Do not use shampoo and conditioner with silicon in them (both Pantene and dove have silicon). The silicon makes your hair dry causing your scalp to be over active when producing oil

Tried this years ago… didn’t work 😥

The clay shampoo gave me terrible dandruff. There's a Herbal Essences grapefruit one that I find quite good.

MrsHGWells · 26/02/2023 16:28

Avoid or use minimal conditioner at the roots/scalp.. just condition the tips.,

thirteenfiftyeight · 26/02/2023 16:32

I would switch to silicone free shampoo and conditioner. Helped my hair. Silicone can make some hair types really heavy

saveforthat · 26/02/2023 16:35

Christoph Robin scalp scrub. It is expensive but a small pot lasts ages. I use it once a week, I have to wash my hair every day because I swim every day. It was terrible, greasy scalp, dry ends. It's much better now.

MissBoomBastic · 26/02/2023 16:35

We tried this shampoo for my dd hair. Saw an improvement straight away

thirteenfiftyeight · 26/02/2023 16:35

Since I went silicone free, I've been able to condition the whole length of my hair including the roots and still no greasy hair

Any specific product recommendations ?

Less conditioner. Give it a try. I don't know if you touch your hair or brush it a lot either but I know that can turn. Sometimes where you are looking can make your hair seem greasy but in a different mirror or light, it isn't. So check in different mirrors /lights. But for me less conditioner.

Coffeepot72 · 26/02/2023 16:44

I tried to wean my hair off daily washing during lockdown. It didn’t work. I just accept I have the sort of hair that needs washing daily. I have oily skin so it’s no surprise I have an oily scalp.

RandomMess · 26/02/2023 17:08

I've started using face skin products now my hair needs washing more often 🙄
