To be aware if you have an existing pre-paid 12 month subscription as I do - from January all returns are chargeable at £2.50 each. I don't recall seeing anything advising of this.

I didn't re subscribe to mine as they use Evri who weren't very reliable in our area, I did notice it went from £26 to £22.50 about a month ago, this was probably when it happened. If you buy something under certain terms and conditions surely that should last for the full subscription and only change at renewal so I would complain if it has changed.

I did think of resubcring as Evri have improved since Christmas but will probably now just take the months free trial they are offering and then cancel it.

SeasonsBleatings · 15/02/2023 06:44

That's £2.50 also. I do think their sales are going to plummet, this wasn't well thought out at all.

That was in reply to the post re is Royal Mail return free!

I order a lot from Next Tall ...probably 2 orders a month. Most gets returned via Evri at Tesco....luckily my local branch is only 15 minutes drive away.
Sneaky not telling anyone

Danceswithweasels · 15/02/2023 06:52

Thank you for pointing this out. Royal mail returns used to be free as well and they are now £2.50 and Paypal have also stopped "returns on us" this month as well. I get frustrated as the reason I return is usually because of the Lucky dip sizing or the poor description that fails to mention the sparkly shit or cheap looking fabric that doesn't show up in the photo.

Pearl97 · 15/02/2023 07:01

This is so naughty! Let’s see what they say. Well spotted!

LilyGlobe · 15/02/2023 07:02

My subscription autorenewed in September, clearly states it will be free returns and I’ve had no notification since that this is no longer the case. Really not impressed.

AnotherAppleThief · 15/02/2023 07:12

I've had Next unlimited for years, my renewal month is September and it is still trying to charge me.

I'm cross because if it wasn't for this thread, I might have ordered something not knowing that I would have to pay for returns. Very sneaky!

I'd actually already made the decision to stop using my directory account. I've managed to rack up quite a balance and it's costing me a fortune and the quality just isn't there any more. I like the convenience and was happy to pay extra for items but now they are taking the pics.

stepfordwifey · 15/02/2023 07:24

I fell into the trap ordering different sizes. That's it for me, cancelled the auto renew and won't be ordering any more stuff.
It's getting harder to shop, especially as we have nothing decent less than an hours drive away.
I've been impressed with ASOS and its recent discount so will switch my allegiance there.

crew2022 · 15/02/2023 07:26

Thanks very much OP for drawing my attention to this. I still have my subscription until March and I just checked it: no longer states free returns just free delivery.
My nearest store is still a trip out and the whole selling point of Next for me over the last 30 years has been the delivery and collection.
They haven't even told me about the change.
I won't bother ordering now, just occasionally go to the store but more than likely I'll go elsewhere.

moleeye · 15/02/2023 07:34

That's made me very cross. Bad enough Evri are so crap that they never turn up when they're supposed to and 2 of my deliveries went to completely unknown addresses, and now this!!

My renewal is due beginning of March, I won't be renewing it. The whole point is next day delivery for things when I need it for the kids!

Thanks for the heads up!

Mummyoflittledragon · 15/02/2023 07:34

I still have free returns. I’d rather they charged a little more for the subscription service. Thanks for the heads up.

PhoneyM · 15/02/2023 07:40

Thanks for this - Hv just cancelled my renewal 👍🏻

Ah

Yes and my subscription renewed on the 27th January, missed out by 2 days 😆
They certainly didn't make it clear when I renewed that I'd be charged for returns, definitely not happy when I discovered this, especially as the price for NextUnlimited hasn't gone down to reflect now receiving only half the service!

Yes exactly. That's the way to reduce returns - improve their descriptions!

HoboHotel · 14/02/2023 22:42

Hang on, I've had a subscription for ages and I had to pay 2.50 for a return this week? Ffs

Yeah! I initially thought it wouldn't affect me but now I've looked it does!!!

Theit · 15/02/2023 07:52

I have asked them if they’re planning to refund half of the cost of my remaining subscription, as they are only offering half of the service that I paid for.

I’m sure that this can’t be legal - if it is, in theory, what’s to stop them adding a charge delivery too?

Theit · 15/02/2023 07:52

“charge for delivery”

WaddleAway · 15/02/2023 07:55

It’s still free for me, I’ve done 2 collections in the past couple of weeks. I wonder why some are free and some aren’t?

WaddleAway · 15/02/2023 07:57

If/when it does change I’ll be cancelling my subscription though. Im not paying the same amount of money for a reduced service.

Xrays · 15/02/2023 07:58

I think Next are changing a lot of things - I’ve noticed they’ve just started to accept klarna in the last few weeks (so you can pay in 3 instalments or in 30 days) and I suspect this will attract a lot more customers - this is partly why Asos and H and M have a huge following. I think they are being a bit cheeky changing the return charge bit, they probably think they’ll have more customers via Klarna use and don’t really care if they lose some!

Theit · 15/02/2023 08:02

I just found this on their website - so according to this (i) I and others on this post should not be paying due to when the subscription was taken out; (ii) they should have notified us.

“Returns with nextunlimited -

Runnerduck34 · 15/02/2023 08:03

Not impressed, most stores offer free returns when you order online.
The whole point of having for next unlimited was free delivery and free returns.
Its the reason why I usually look at next first when online shopping.
Nearest store is 8 miles away so would need to make a specfic journey and pay to park, which would cost more than £2.50. My next courier is lovely,I have her number on my phone to text to arrange a collection which I leave in my porch. Bit annoyed they are changing it tbh.

leafittome · 15/02/2023 08:08

I'm so disappointed- next is probably my go to place for clothes (probably due to the convenience). I buy a lot over the year for myself and the children. Most of the kids stuff I keep but I have to return some of the things for me which don't fit. Now I'll have to find an alternative as I am not prepared to pay a pass just for deliveries when I then have to pay to return it too. There isn't a store near me.
I would have preferred they keep the option of free returns but charge more for the pass.
So annoying.
Very poor to do it quietly and not inform people. My renewal is within the week- won't be renewing

RedRiverShore3 · 15/02/2023 08:09

I have just spotted in the small print about delivery that at peak times there will be a 25p charge for next day to store delivery but subsequent days are free, changes are afoot and not very well advertised, how soon before that increases. They will be doing Klarna because the Directory account is only for those with reasonable credit scores like a credit card so exclude some shoppers.
