Not skinny jeans, not mom jeans

I swear there used to be a style of jeans called "cigarette"?

I'm looking for new jeans. I don't want mom jeans, but I don't want skin-tight skinny jeans either. I want something in between the two that also aren't "straight" jeans. Am I making sense? Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

Isn’t cigarette the same as slim / straight? Maybe slightly cropped?

I thought so, but I bought some and they look ridiculous, they're really wide, so I don't know if the terminology has changed. I'm looking for something that could definitely still be called skinny, but I still want a little bit of room. Nothing skin tight. Think a bit like "French chic" vibe, I guess.

I saw a woman wearing the most beautiful slim and straight jeans (I thought these were cigarette) and regret not asking her. Would love to find a nice pair too.

Peridot1 · 27/01/2023 13:07

I got a nice pair surprisingly from JD Williams. They are called Dream Sculpt straight leg. Not too wide or baggy in the leg. I’m an apple shape and they work well.

cannaethink · 27/01/2023 13:11

Gap used to do cigarette jeans, I think they’ve renamed them vintage slim

Marks and Spencer straight leg are exactly what you’re describing. Think they’re called Siena?

The reason buying jeans is so difficult though, is that every brand will have a slightly different fit and shape even if called the same thing. I suspect some
slim or straight jeans are a bit baggy but some will be very slim. Also depends on the shape of your actual legs top of course! Keep trying is the only thing you can do really

imnottoofussed · 27/01/2023 13:18

Maybe try girlfriend jean or relaxed skinny

Rebootnecessary · 27/01/2023 13:19

I've gone back to Levi 501s recently.

minipie · 27/01/2023 13:23

I agree that “slim” and “straight” vary so much, some are much baggier than others despite being called the same. These are the styles you want though, especially slim. Usually if you look at the model pics online you can tell broadly how baggy/tight they are cut.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 27/01/2023 13:26

Marks and Spencer’s Harper jeans are cigarette jeans.

I have been browsing at M&S and found this: www.marksandspencer.com/harper-cigarette-ankle-grazer-jeans/p/clp60590909?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share

DaphneduM · 27/01/2023 13:27

Marks and Spencer Harper cigarette jeans. Just bought some in denim and blue/black. But beware - some of them have turned up cuffs - the white and very pale denim ones - which I returned as unless you're very long legged they are not flattering as they seem to foreshorten your legs! The plain style is flattering in my opinion.

Margarita45 · 27/01/2023 13:30

M&S Harper.

schmalex · 27/01/2023 13:32

I like Frame Le High Straight - they're straight leg but very slim and flattering.

Workawayxx · 27/01/2023 13:37

Fatface sway slim leg jeans are amazing. Not super tight like skinny but not loose either and really flattering, lovely soft denim with slight stretch. You can roll them up with a fold at the roll to make them look a bit more tapered leg and cropped or just wear them full length.

MaggieMagpie357 · 27/01/2023 13:44

I have tried the M&S Sienna and they seem much wider in the thigh area than the calf, which looks completely hideous on me! I would absolutely love to find exactly what the OP describes, I've tried on straight, cigarette, slim styles but no sign of anything that flatters yet! 😢

zurala · 27/01/2023 13:48

I'm looking for this too! Apparently it's just not in style right now according to the guy in Levi's. And most straight jeans are very wide. I need a nice slim straight leg. Am going to look at some of the suggestions in this thread

Lheuredubebe · 27/01/2023 13:49

Hmm I've looked at the M&S Harper jeans and they're still wider than what I have in mind. I've found some photos that might help, the difference is super small and maybe that's why I'm finding it impossible to find.

So this is what I'm looking for. They're skinny, but looser than skin-tight.(Will add what I'm NOT looking for in the next post)

What I don't want

Not skinny jeans, not mom jeans

The difference is subtle, but it's there.

have you tried relaxed skinny jeans?

Mustbemagic · 27/01/2023 13:53

&otherstories favourite cut?

Martinisarebetterdirty · 27/01/2023 13:54

Abercrombie and fitch do a skinny and super skinny - the skinny is more relaxed in the calf

Lheuredubebe · 27/01/2023 13:56

bunnypenny · 27/01/2023 13:52

have you tried relaxed skinny jeans?

I haven't been able to find anywhere that does them. I heard that skinnies are back in, so it seems that everyone has stocked the super-skinnies and that's all I'm finding. Another poster said Abercrombie and fitch do them, will look there now.

Maybe search Tapered jeans
I know what you mean by subtle difference
