I usually buy more figure-hugging dresses so I don't know if this is OK? Is it the style that's like this or does it look like I'm wearing a tent?

I like it from the front but I've attached an example of how it can look bad from certain angles.

It's size XS which makes me think it's supposed to be like this?

It's the comfiest dress ever so I'd like to keep it but not if people think it makes me look like a clown.

Looks fine to me

LulooLemon · 14/11/2022 14:36

It's nice

YourBestie · 14/11/2022 14:37

Neutral!

FlounderingFruitcake · 14/11/2022 14:40

Yes it’s pretty basic and nondescript but there’s a time and a place for that. Perfect for semi casual everyday wear. The exact opposite of clown like.

Cinnamonandcoal · 14/11/2022 14:40

It looks good on you.
I'd like to wear stuff like this more but being a J-cup it really would look like a tent on me.

Littlepiggiesinblankets · 14/11/2022 14:41

It looks good on you - keep it!

mistandsun · 14/11/2022 14:42

I like it, where's it from?

whiteroseredrose · 14/11/2022 14:45

It looks a bit big and baggy to me.

However I am 57 and come from a different eta!

CountryCousin · 14/11/2022 14:46

Like it!

Much more contemporary / current than anything figure-hugging.

RuthW · 14/11/2022 14:46

It's lovely

zurala · 14/11/2022 14:48

It's a particular aesthetic and personally I'm not a fan, I think they look like maternity wear, but I'm sure it's comfy and if you like it then go for it! I'd feel frumpy and fat in it but that's my issue!

Thiswayorthatway · 14/11/2022 14:49

It’s ok, you can do better

YayorNay1 · 14/11/2022 14:50

Oh I'm so pleased thanks all!

@FlounderingFruitcake Semi casual everyday wear is exactly what I was hoping to use it for so that's perfect.

@CountryCousin that's what I was hoping to hear. I'm updating my wardrobe where everything is 5 to 10 years old and all figure hugging, so it's an adjustment!

It's from Apricot, and a bargain in the sale too!

It looks Toasty and not in a good way. There are far better casual, comfortable frocks out there.

YayorNay1 · 14/11/2022 14:57

Ah nooooo the last messages are tipping the balance the other way!

I also have this one, any better? I think it looks headteachery/funeraly though. Any other suggestions welcome!

I love the first one! I like the second too but the first is my fave.

CountryCousin · 14/11/2022 15:02

I don’t know Apricot, but they came up in a thread last night and were generally excoriated for being cheap and throwaway.

If you’re shopping for a whole new wardrobe have a look at Community Clothing. You’ll find ethically produced, completely mainstream basics, produced in the UK - at fair prices.

Then you could add extras from everywhere else.

WeAreOnTheRoadToNowhere · 14/11/2022 15:02

I prefer the first one. It looks good for a casual, day dress

Newcatbrowntail · 14/11/2022 15:03

I think it doesn’t do you any favours

LadyEloise1 · 14/11/2022 15:18

I love the first one but I'd need long sleeves for autumn, winter and spring.
Despite the unseasonably warm weather at the moment I still meed long sleeves.

OOvavuuu · 14/11/2022 15:20

The second one is much more flattering. It makes you look 1-2 dress sizers smaller.

LadyEloise1 · 14/11/2022 15:33

Far prefer the first one.

ArabeI · 14/11/2022 16:48

I think both look fine, but slightly prefer the first. I don't think I've heard of Apricot, but I think the first dress looks like a Hush dress. I have a few of their dresses as casual day dresses (which I think someone has already said this looks like)

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 14/11/2022 16:50

The second one is much better on you. The first one is completely shapeless and frumpy.

3WildOnes · 14/11/2022 16:53

I have a few dresses (from Hush) like your first one. I love them as they are do comfortable. I'm aware they are not the most flattering but sometimes comfort wins!
