So I've just discovered that if you sign up for Harrods rewards, you get an extra 10% off the calander which brings it down to £202.50. They've also thrown in a free lotion. The extra 10% is only until Monday though!

Good deal. Nothing in that one I really fancy though. I wonder if the heavy hitters will follow suit and start to reduce now?

Thanks, that is lovely.

And apologies for encouraging said disrupting. But with all our luxury beauty, we need a stylish way to lounge around in warmth.

MyOtherCarIsAHearse · 24/11/2022 22:38

I’m still waiting on that damn Rituals. That’s likely the only one I’d add at this point unless one of the big ones came down to half price. I feel obscene for the number I have but it will save me a fortune this next year.

Bah, I really want an advent calendar. They are so beautiful and so full of lovely things, but I am terrible and just don't have a proper routine or anything to justify the purchase. I remember to wear lipstick maybe twice a week and to put some moisturiser on my face about as often.

I know logically that buying expensive things I won't use quickly or even at all depending on the thing. But I want to be a lovely organised person who has Routines etc and also to treat myself and I love a bargain. I have good skin currently but I suspect that will start changing soon (30 next year).

Does anyone want to enable me by recommending one for someone like me?!

Augend23 · 25/11/2022 08:13

PS this problem normally solves itself because I think "oh that's too much money" and then they sell out before they get reduced. I was umming and ahhing about either the LiB or the Flannels one currently I think.

One thing I actually do wear pretty much daily is perfume.

ajandjjmum · 25/11/2022 08:26

Pinenu · 24/11/2022 19:59

Has anyone ever returned anything with LiB and if so, is it easy to do?

I had to return a beauty box once, as one item has spilled out over the rest - can't remember what it was - it was black! I let them know and they said either return it and they'll replace or refund.

I was obviously a real nuisance to them - they made a point of saying that unless everything was in the box, they wouldn't refund. No recognition of the inconvenience (and disappointment) it caused me. I had the refund and won't buy from them again.

Getting an advent calendar was what kick started my routine. You keep good skin by looking after it, you can't turn the clock back once it's happened but you can prolong the process - anti aging needs to start before you age Grin there will always be things you won't use or like, but they are great way to discover what those things are. How much are you wanting to spend?

LadyLapsang · 25/11/2022 08:33

30% off Net a Porter, bringing it down to £182 from £260.

I would probably be prepared to spend £150 if it was fabulous but that would be the absolute max. The stuff in the cheaper ones doesn't excite me as much as the beautiful luxuriously packaged expensive things Blush

Peridot1 · 25/11/2022 08:35

@Augend23 - if I were you I wouldn’t necessarily buy an advent calendar now. I’d concentrate on getting into a good routine with skin care so next year you know a bit more about products and what you are likely to use, what your skin likes/dislikes and what gaps you have to fill. If you do really want an advent calendar maybe go for a brand one like Clarins or Lumene. Or Boots No7. Actually the Boots one could be a good call if you want to up your skincare game. It’s also a good time to try different sets of skincare - I wanted to try a brand called Biossance (loved by Reece Witherspoon apparently!) and got a little starter set yesterday from Space NK which I’d been looking at before.

And if you do want to up your skincare (and I really do recommend it as for most of us it definitely helps your skin in the anti aging sense - although I hate the phrase anti aging). Don’t get bogged down in too much but start with cleansing, toning and moisturiser and most importantly of all an SPF that you will wear every day. Even in winter. That is the single most important anti aging thing you can do for your skin.

Neversaygoodbye · 25/11/2022 08:43

I agree, I wouldn't buy an advent calendar if looking to start a good skincare routine. The Ordinary also do some nice basic starter sets & I think they might be on offer currently too. Start basic, build knowledge & then you can start dipping your toe into trying different products which is what Advent Calendars are all about.

Adventadventures · 25/11/2022 08:53

Some good advise above about establishing a good skincare routine. But if you would still like an advent there are a lot of luxury ones for great prices at the moment.
Your love of perfume made me think of Fenwicks I think they have 3 or 4 perfumes in there but it has been criticised for tiny products but it is almost half price now.
Fenwicks is beautiful but very makeup heavy (3 eyeshadows) .
Latest in Beauty has the ticklist of popular brands in it . Very skincare/hair care heavy with little makeup but most the products are your everyday use products.
if you don’t mind not having a surprise watch some unboxing on YouTube of them and do a checklist of items you would use/like to try

Flannels is under that and fabulous. It's not as skincare heavy as others. Agree with PP's about it being easy to start a basic skincare routine though- you just need cleanser, toner, moisturiser, spf. Liz earle is a good one for the first three, there's probably a set on sale somewhere, and my favourite spf is called thank you farmer

Augend23 · 25/11/2022 09:04

Thank you ever so much for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it :)

Peridot1 · 25/11/2022 09:09

I have just had a look at the discounts on here and thinking about it the Space NK one may be a good one for you. It’s just over £150 I know but has quite a lot of skincare and a nice SPF. The other one I looked at briefly with you in mind was Origins. I bought their 12 day one last year and it’s nice. I quite like their skin care. Might be a good way to get a routine going. And I completely get wanting the lovely luxury ones! It’s such a nice treat.

THE TEMPTATION 😩

Not yet...I was close yesterday with the UpCircle one which is down to about £60 in their Black Friday offer. I do love their products and they've been very clever in putting lots of new things in the calendar which aren't available elsewhere but it still feels too much when I've already got JL.
Next year, I think I'm just going to set some money aside and hang on until Black Friday/December and see what bargains I can get.

Me 🙋🏻‍♀️😬 I’ve bought the Glossybox. Hopefully cash back will work too 🤞

I wasn’t going to get any this year due to the size of my hoard but I’ve somehow ended up with two, as I have the Flannels.

On the subject of heated throws, I have the velvet Dreamland one, and I’d highly recommend.

Risky strategy though, I suspect many retailers won't do the calendars next year due to the lack of demand this year. Or if they do, they'll produce limited quantities to try to create a buzz.

Zeeza · 25/11/2022 10:00

Yeah, I think there will be a lot of companies hurting over this years. My bet is fewer and smaller.

Lots of the calendars didn't hit quite right for me. How much glycolic do we blinking well need. Maybe they will be a little more considered next year.

My daughter has requested a face brush for Christmas and it’s in the Glossybox. It’s usually £40 so I’m using that as a reason to justify buying the calendar.

… but the face brush is currently on sale for £20…

EmmatheStageRat · 25/11/2022 10:10

Lazy request alert: has anyone seen any good deals on MAC sets? Not the calendar, as I already have that as my teen’s combined Christmas and birthday gift. Anyone else got Black Friday fatigue yet?
