@RosettaStormer Come December there will be opening threads for the individual calendars (and probably this thread will continue as general chat), they're usually quite good for getting other opinions on the products and tips on how to use them.

Not long to go now! Just over a week until we can start opening and discussing contents.

Ah good! Never had an advent calendar before this year.

I agree that this is a lovely (and dangerous!) thread. I’m slightly obsessed with skin care and have way too much. But it’s my happy place.

I started following Caroline Hirons a few years ago and fell down a deep dark hole that makes me very happy. I’ve learnt a lot. And spent a lot! If you aren’t sure about products or skin care in general I’d recommend her website especially her Cheat Sheets. She does recommend lots of high end and expensive stuff but but it’s possible to have great skin care without spending a fortune. Nadine Baggot is another good source of information.

Don’t be afraid to ask about products if you aren’t sure. It’s great to get stuff to try out from advent calendars and it really makes sense to try to get the most from them.

Reporting back in to say that I am absolutely delighted with my Lakeland Dreamland Hygge Days luxury heated blanket (fallow deer print). It arrived earlier today and I’m enjoying the benefits now. My six-year-old tried it and described it as ‘living in a warm cloud.’ She is not wrong. No heating on yet here in Yorkshire…

I’m glad you did post in the wrong thread. I’m intrigued…

I'm waiting to see what Caroline Hirons is going to do for Bun Friday!

diamondsandrose · 22/11/2022 23:50

What's bun Friday ?!

Agree the day by day opening threads are fab , I did an M&S one one year I loved everyone so much I missed them when the calendar finished 🥰

QueefofSheena · 23/11/2022 06:51

I read the various opening threads for calendars I don’t have, just to see what’s in them. It’s a tradition now 😄

PanicAtTheBigTesco · 23/11/2022 07:13

RosettaStormer · 22/11/2022 21:38

The trouble is I don’t know how to use half the products or what they are. Could we have a thread on which products people are enjoying and how best to use them? Most have no instructions.

I find there is generally instructions on how to use things on whichever website sells the product, so I just google the product and click on the first result (normally cult beauty for me) and if you scroll through there will be a how to use bit Smile. I've learnt so much about skincare since getting my first calendar 2 years ago! Before that I didn't even cleanse, just washed my face with water.

Last year all her kits were reduced, think it was 33% off. But I don't think any of her kits are still in stock so I'm keenly awaiting the announcement!

Yes good tip!

@Couperi I’m trying to avoid ‘Bun Friday’ as I have so much stuff from previous kits. Be interesting to see what she does. I know last year she delayed the brand discounts after her pop up so as not to conflict with the brands’s own Black Friday deals. And she has just launched her own retinol so can’t see her discounting that yet.

I'd love if she had a surprise kit but doubt it. I think it'll be brand offers.

Roundaboot · 23/11/2022 10:48

Quidco have £25 cashback on a £50+ spend at Look Fantastic. The smaller Rituals calendar is reduced to £52. I'm trying very hard to resist!

@RosettaStormer Re the opening threads - they're the best part of having a calendar. I also have a friend who is in to them too so we share our thoughts on WhatsApp too.

The best opening thread is the strays and waifs one, although they are all great. The strays and waifs one is all the calendars that don't have enough posters for a thread of their own.

JL is out of stock

Adventadventures · 23/11/2022 13:33

Ok I made the mistake of pointing the Flannels calendar (can’t believe it is still in stock) out to my 20 year old daughter. She loves it! We have agreed to open a door each every month next year as a treat which I am really looking forward to . Hopefully between her love of the makeup and me the skincare we will not be fighting over the same doors!
I really couldn’t justify another advent just for me but this way we are sharing it and £60 each over a year sounds much less extravagant.
Although I will have to hide it from my DH he already thinks I spend way too much money on skincare (but what he dosent notice is I buy nothing else for the rest of the year)
Quite excited about it now!
Not surprised JL is out of stock it is probably the cheapest luxury advent (after flannels) on the market at the moment and there is some great products in there

Branster · 23/11/2022 14:14

@Adventadventures it is huge and quite heavy so not sure how you'll explain that one when it gets delivered 😁

Mine arrived today, by DPD, but when it is scheduled to be dispatched, you have the option to change to local collection point, if one available. Which I did consider out of embarrassment. DH just said, there's another delivery for you! And that was that.

Flannels was my only AC purchase this year but I succumbed to LiB skin care edit for practical reasons. I wanted Liberty but I simply cannot justify the price, maybe next year.

Adventadventures · 23/11/2022 14:57

@Branster fingers crossed it comes when he is at work then! Although no idea where I will store it.
I often have buyer regret but none so far for Flannels it really is a bargain if you can use the stuff and I think that between DD and I we will.
This will be my second advent I have John Lewis already which is my official (for DH) advent.
To be honest I am just looking forward to next week now so we can start unboxing and discussing/using our days Exciting!

CurlyFerret · 23/11/2022 15:37

@Adventadventures (love the name!) I have also succumbed after refreshing furiously for the last few days willing it to sell out and save me. But I crumbled this morning…arrives on Friday 🤣

MidnightMeltdown · 23/11/2022 15:41

I'm quite tempted by Elle at £99 🙈

polmnlj · 23/11/2022 15:53

I was thinking getting Lumene if the price drops and now there is good reduction at LF. But now I am not interested anymore. Same goes with Clinique. The only ones I find interesting are F&M and Harrods. Hopefully there are some mega reductions.

Branster · 23/11/2022 16:02

So, LiB AC has £60 off and comes with a beauty box worth over £250.
I don't know which beauty box that would be. The Style Luxury Skin Edit is no longer available but that was valued at over £360 so it can't be that one. Perhaps one of the Others still showing.

BFACINVITE is the code

Branster · 23/11/2022 16:03

From tomorrow I believe

QueefofSheena · 23/11/2022 16:11

Not an AC, and sorry if it’s been mentioned already but Escentric have a free gift with any purchase. It’s random so you don’t know what you are getting. I had to reorder some Molecule 01 and got free a bottle of Escentric 05 and the usual samples delivered today.

Pinenu · 23/11/2022 16:33

Talk me down.

I have H&B (bought full price agh) and body shop. I’m eyeing up Flannels, Liberty, CB or Glossbox.

I still have the following left over from last year’s calendars:

  • Sunday Riley CEO Glow Face Oil 15ml
  • Dr Barbara Sturm Hylaruonic Serum 10ml
  • Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Intense 8ml
  • Bliss Bright Idea Serum, 30ml
  • Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream 5ml
  • Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturising Cream 50ml
  • La Mer Crème de la Mer The Moisturising Cream 7ml
  • Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream 15ml

I don’t need another AC do I?

Tell me to step away from the calendars.
