Do you still wear a watch? What would you recommend?

I've not worn a watch in ages, but I used to - is wearing a watch terribly dated?

I'm starting a new job soon and quite fancy buying a decent watch, also to minimize the effect of always looking at my phone. Are there any brands people would recommend, mid-range, that work well and look good? I'd prefer an analog clock face, and prefer slightly masculine, simple designs. Open to anything other than silver/chrome, and no huge diamond embellishments etc.. My last watch was a present from my parents and I just realised I've never actually bought one for myself!

I had a great skagen watch before I got a smart watch.

Cashelmara · 22/10/2022 16:06

I too like Skagen watches. Daniel Wellington watches are also good.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 22/10/2022 16:07

I really like my Fossil watch for situations where my purple Garmin isn't really suitable.

RampantIvy · 22/10/2022 16:11

My Tissot watch looks pretty similar to this one

I wear a watch because I CBA to keep getting my phone out to see the time.

Mercedesbenz2022 · 22/10/2022 16:15

Came on to say skagen too
very simple scandi style watches

Bagzzz · 22/10/2022 16:16

I wear a really basic watch that just tells the time, leather strap, don’t even know the brand. Just suggesting if you are going to spend a bit you think about whether you want it to be just a watch, to also count steps or all singing, all dancing like a phone.

KendrickLamaze · 22/10/2022 16:22

I have an Apple Watch with a normal metal watch band strap rather than a ben10 adventure strap. Does all the additional stuff and tells the time.

erikbloodaxe · 22/10/2022 16:28

Timex. Old faithful.

NoMoreAgeJokes · 22/10/2022 16:30

I have this Fossil watch www.marksandspencer.com/fossil-mini-carlie-black-leather-watch/p/hbp22534222?prevPage=srp

I am lost without a watch.
I've had my last two from Argos. The first one lasted me about 17 years.

Snozwanger · 22/10/2022 16:38

Mine is inexpensive, a silver coloured one from Olivia Burton, but it goes with everything and the strap has little clasps so you can easily remove it for cleaning.

hugoagogo · 22/10/2022 16:39

Timex here too. I hate it if I forget to put it on, I end up looking at my phone and getting distracted by a text or something.

Exasperatednow · 22/10/2022 16:42

Daniel Wellington watch. I love it

Pigtailsandall · 22/10/2022 16:47

Thanks everyone so far! Skagen watches look great. I don't want a smart watch; Idoalso look upon it as an accessory so something that goes with my style. I shall browse a bit more...

I don't care if it's dated (if indeed it is), I could never get used to not wearing a watch. Even now I usually have my phone with me I don't think of using it for telling the time.

My usual watch is by Seiko, it's technically men's and has a sort of curved rectangular face if that makes any sense - straight sides at the top and bottom and convex at the sides. It has a silvertone case and a brown grainy leather strap. It was quite expensive by my standards (but in the hundreds rather than thousands) but it was a rare treat to myself when I inherited some money. I also own a white Ice Watch which I sometimes wear with sporty clothes or light colours.

Nat6999 · 22/10/2022 19:06

I have a Samsung smart watch & a Rotary normal watch for best.

AriettyHomily · 22/10/2022 19:09

Old school Casio digital and I love it. Never take it off.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 22/10/2022 19:12

I love my watch. Can't get used to just relying on my phone for the time.

It's a citizen eco drive, titanium strap, small and understated and never needs a new battery. Got it for my 30th birthday, so it's almost 7 years old and still as good as new.

Having lost my Fitbit, I've decided not to bother replacing it- didn't really enhance my fitness!
I've gone back to my Skagen and Radley watches which I alternate according to my mood/ what I'm wearing.

hesaysimterrible · 22/10/2022 19:18

Yes I wear a one everyday. I feel naked Without it. I either wear a Rolex or another one I have that's not quite as coveted, but still very nice. To me they're pieces of jewellery. Not just a watch to tell time. I do have some fashion watches like Michael Kors, etc but I find I always get bored of them after a while.

Derrymum123 · 22/10/2022 19:20

Fossil watches for me. I have loads of them, but the Fossil Georgia is my favourite. Goes with anything.

StarfishBrain · 22/10/2022 19:40

I am in love with this one but unfortunately I'd have to sell my house to buy it.

I switch between two Fossil watches but covet a Tag Heuer Aquaracer. I think I need a better job first though!

Pugalicious · 22/10/2022 19:47

Watches are my 'thing'. I feel undressed without one. If there was only one piece of jewellery I was allowed to wear it would be a watch every time.
I have a Versace watch bought for Christmas one year when I was 60 (cost the buyer about £1500) which I adore - but the strap has gone so for now I am wearing a D&G one bought really cheaply on eBay years ago which still keeps good time and looks gorgeous.
I also have a couple of snide watches which I like to wear but they do not keep good time so go figure !
I feel undressed without one.

I've got a nice Rotary watch that I used to wear all the time, till I got an Apple Watch. Can't imagine being without it now!
