Do you still wear a watch? What would you recommend?

I've not worn a watch in ages, but I used to - is wearing a watch terribly dated?

I'm starting a new job soon and quite fancy buying a decent watch, also to minimize the effect of always looking at my phone. Are there any brands people would recommend, mid-range, that work well and look good? I'd prefer an analog clock face, and prefer slightly masculine, simple designs. Open to anything other than silver/chrome, and no huge diamond embellishments etc.. My last watch was a present from my parents and I just realised I've never actually bought one for myself!

I have always worn swatch watches as theyre light and comfortable to wear. Funky designs and theyre waterproof so i dont have to always take them off

I wear a Skagen watch most of the time but have a little cheap Timex one bought when the Skagen had to be sent away.

I could not be without a watch, I only take it off to wash my hair or have a shower.

I have a Skagen watch and a wind-up Fossil one, plus an Intersoll copy of a wind-up vintage Mickey Mouse watch. I also have about nine limited edition Swatches.

But I have about 21 watches so I can mix and match them with whatever I'm wearing. I use them as jewellry, which also tells me the time. I don't wear a watch unless I'm about and about, and I would never wear one of those blank screen Apple(?) watches. I don't see how wearing a watch is any more dated than wearing a necklace. Tomorrow I'm going for lunch wearing a black jumper and grey jeans, so I'll be wearing my black watch. And as soon as I come home I'll take it off, because I've got clocks.

@Branleuse > Have you seen the Swatch collaberation with the Pompidou Centre in Paris? Some great designs.

I wear a tag watch, (stainless Steel strap, black dial) I got it after my DS was born. I absolutely hate it if I forget to put my watch on. Its instinct to look at my wrist to see the time.

PreColumbian · 22/10/2022 22:29

Cartier Tank. I’m after a Chanel J12.

boobashka · 22/10/2022 22:41

Love my Skagen watch and wear it constantly except when in the shower /swimming . Simple and matches my wedding and engagement rings perfectly (I'm quite anal about things matching 😆..)

OhSunnyMorning · 22/10/2022 22:43

Cannot go far wrong with a Seiko. Tasteful styling and they last forever.

Waitingtomove · 22/10/2022 22:49

I wear a tag aquaracer. Stainless bracelet with mother of pearl face. It seems to suit most occasions. I didn't wear a watch for years, now I put it on every morning without fail.

Skagen for me. Inexpensive, good looking and reliable. I bought my most recent one from a shop in Skagen, very north Denmark. It's a beautiful place...pronounced skaaaaan

DrNo007 · 22/10/2022 22:56

I have a Roamer watch with a white ceramic strap and white and gold face. I love it.

Oh, it's one of the reasons I have worn Skagen watches for years. Keep them on all the time - swimming, showers etc.

I have a Fossil watch with a sparkly face that I love and wear everyday

Yes!! My current watch is the mondrian one. I love the whole collection though.

Areyounot · 23/10/2022 07:31

Cartier Tank for me every time.

An absolute classic that doesn’t age.

Easy to change the straps as well, so I have a few different colours.

Gloucester15 · 23/10/2022 07:59

Nordgreen. Similar styles to Skagen.

sixtiesbaby88 · 23/10/2022 08:26

I have a Mondaine watch, I love the simplicity of the face and a it's design classic from Swiss railways

FeralWitch · 23/10/2022 08:29

I have a Hamilton watch - nice and chunky, almost androgynous design. Very old school, and you don’t see them everywhere.

I wear my Fitbit most of the time, but I enjoy wearing my watch when I do.

evilharpy · 23/10/2022 17:02

I only wear a smart watch these days (a Garmin Venu which is less sporty looking than some). My husband has a Skagen watch I really like. It's very slim and simple. If I was going to wear a "normal" watch I'd wear one like that.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/10/2022 17:12

Another vote for Skagen. I love mine.

Fairyliz · 23/10/2022 17:54

And yet another vote for Skagen; Ive got two and think they are very classy xx

KatyS36 · 23/10/2022 18:07

I've got a longines, blue face, which I wear all the time and love. I bought it for myself as a present and the brief was a watch I could wear surfing, and a watch I could wear to a mitchelin star restaurant. Fits both as properly waterproof. Took me ages to decide but was lots of fun. Cost ~900.

digestivebiscu1t · 23/10/2022 18:11

Intrigued by the concept of watches being dated..!

I've got an Olivia Burton one. Not too pricey, simple design, has lasted ages. I love it.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 23/10/2022 18:14

I’ve got a Longines for special and one from a Swiss (I think) brand called UniformWares which is so, so stripped back and simple which is more of an everyday wear. It’s beautiful.

JaceLancs · 23/10/2022 22:28

I’m an omega fan
have a stainless steel and gold constellation for every day and a gold dress watch for other occasions
if I was going less spendy would choose Skagen
