Do you still wear a watch? What would you recommend?

I've not worn a watch in ages, but I used to - is wearing a watch terribly dated?

I'm starting a new job soon and quite fancy buying a decent watch, also to minimize the effect of always looking at my phone. Are there any brands people would recommend, mid-range, that work well and look good? I'd prefer an analog clock face, and prefer slightly masculine, simple designs. Open to anything other than silver/chrome, and no huge diamond embellishments etc.. My last watch was a present from my parents and I just realised I've never actually bought one for myself!

Like many others I have a couple of Skagen watches, inexpensive and discretely beautiful. My current favourite is a big chunky masculine Nixon (tortoiseshell acetate). Have a couple of more expensive Tissot & Longines but pretty much always default to Skagen and Nixon.

I wear a garmin, I use it daily to record running, cycling and swimming. I have a few different straps I change depending on what I’m wearing, including leather ones which look quite smart and less like a smart watch. I like that I can see incoming message and calls on it, it means I don’t need to have my phone out, but see for example if school are calling.

I have several watches from Mr Jones that I always get lots of compliments on. And I like supporting a small independent business.

A Tissot Bellflower with a Milanese extensible bracelet -(stretchy) I bought to replace 2 which were lost - it’s waterproof - no clasp and will hopefully not be lost

I have an eco-drive watch I wear daily - keeps time, never needs a new battery. I also have a gold Raymond Weil dress watch that I wear for dressier occasions. I love a good watch.

I have about 20 watches - I love them and I love being able to choose one which goes with my outfit for the day. I have a mixture of Michael Kors, Fossil and Olivia Burton - mostly all chunky boyfriend style although a couple are more delicate for occasions which need that. I have an Apple Watch but I never wear it really - I have tried, but I just don’t like how smart watches look and for me nothing replaces a proper watch.

Never wore a watch until my father gifted me a very beautiful Cartier one 5 years ago. I don’t use it to tell the time. It’s more like a piece of jewelry that makes me feel fab when I wear it.

Those are fun, really unusual! And a good price point too.

My Tissot watch looks pretty similar to this one

I wear a watch because I CBA to keep getting my phone out to see the time.

I have a Tissot too, lovely to wear.

Have worn a Tag for years, interestedly they are it's a lot more expensive than they were 20 plus years ago.
Cost per wear minimal now.

I have Fossil watch that I got for birthday in 2015. Still looks great, no visible scratches etc.

I wear my Aquaracer if I’m attempting to look smart but normally I wear one of my 3 Holzkern watches. They’re pretty cheap and I think they look lovely. They’re a bit of a pain in that they’re not fully waterproof but other than that they’re really robust.

I have a men's Frederique Constant - white face, gold rim, brown leather strap. I have this Daniel Wellington for when it is being serviced which is a similar style

DD has this which looks good with her wrist full of bling

I wear swatches and like pp love the fact I don't need to take it off in shower/swimming etc.

I have a silver mesh Skagen with a blue face for going out etc but the clip fastening is a bugger and I always worry it'll fall off.

tobee · 26/10/2022 16:39

I'm a gadget addict and would love an Apple Watch but I don't fancy being able to access my heart rate etc. as have tendency to health anxiety 😏

Spanielsarepainless · 26/10/2022 16:46

I have several watches and wear them all the time. Too much faff relying on a 'phone and it's rude to constantly be checking it. My favourite is a Swiss railway watch with a scarlet leather strap.

GreyhairedHobbit · 26/10/2022 17:42

Lars Larsen, simple, beautiful, leather strap and still made in Denmark. I looked at Skargen , but was shocked to see that they are made in the US.

A steel Cartier Ronde Must. Simple, elegant, classic.

I just looked at them. Looks a bit like a Timex, don't you think?

Oh they are really nice. Hadn't heard of that brand before. Disappointed that Skagen are made in USA as I have loads of them (all out of batteries!). Think I'll get one of these next.

I have got a baby g watch - is waterproof, digital and analogue and never lets me down!

Oldraver · 26/10/2022 20:53

I have an Eliot Brown Kimmeridge in ice blue. I bought a metal strap for work as I mark the leather one with my work

It's not a dainty ladies watch and quite plain looking but so beautiful

Selok · 26/10/2022 21:13

Love my apple watch not very fashionable maybe but I love the functionality

mathanxiety · 26/10/2022 21:22

I love my old Skagen watch with the stainless steel mesh wristband.

DD3 recently bought herself a lovely vintage Anne Klein watch from Poshmark with a rectangular face and stainless link band.
