So got home tonight and once again all the rest of my make up looks fine, but underneath my eyes its a mess - why what am I doing wrong?

i'd take a picture, but i have already washed my face

I wish I knew...but I look forward to replies!

I’ve found that Hourglass mascaras are really resilient and don’t end up under my eyes. They cost more but really do last for ages.

This is my favourite. 15% off first order.

Yeah I'd say it's the brand of mascara you're using.

I used to have this problem after all day at work- would come home to smudges under each eye and by process of elimination I realised it was the mascara brand I'd been using (at first thought it was eyeliner or my concealer reacting with mascara/eye shadow/ eye liner etc).

I've started using a L'Oréal mascara (aghhh sorry not sure on product name and too lazy to get up and check). My eye make up pretty much stays on fully all day now in the same place I applied it!! 😆

legophoenix · 20/10/2022 19:00

Most of the time it's due to overly oily eyelids/lashes.

Make sure you don't get any moisturiser near your lashes and lids before applying mascara.

Also, oily eye make up removers can leave a residue.

SavingsThreads · 20/10/2022 19:31

I doubt it's the e brand if you've tried a few. It's oil under your eyes. Try powder

SuffolkBargeWoman · 20/10/2022 19:36

Tubing mascara is what you're looking for @MakeMineALarge1
It can't smudge because it is removed by warm water.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/10/2022 19:40

Estee Lauder and Lancome waterproof ones don't smudge. I found cheaper ones did.

wheresmymojo · 20/10/2022 19:47

I have oily skin so have this problem irrespective of whether I use moisturiser or not.

I now use waterproof mascara on my lower lashes which helps a lot.

MakeMineALarge1 · 20/10/2022 20:16

Ok. Today was Rimmel 3d mascara in a black tube.
I have a clarins one.
I'll try that tomorrow
I'll also look ok for a waterproof one and use Powder.
Thank you

Lancome Defencils not cheap but it doesn't do this.

justhadit · 20/10/2022 20:33

You need a tubing mascara. It's a game changer.

Yeah. That's my experience, too.

Wet n Wild do a really good eye primer, but I think that anything that makes your eyelids less oily will help.

startingtosmileagain · 20/10/2022 20:50

Agree you need a tubing mascara. I particularly like Kevyn Aucoin. Am on my 3rd year of continuous use.

Tubing mascara is the answer. I have quite hooded eyes and was forever getting smudges on my eyelids. It isn’t cheap, but it is worth every penny - Estée Lauder Double Wear Zero-Smudge Lengthening Mascara is the one I use (from a Mumsnet recommendation).

Chocachocaholic · 20/10/2022 20:52

I only ever use a waterproof as I have the same problem with any mascara that isn't waterproof, however I've now discovered maybelline sky high and it doesn't run, granted it needs proper eye make up remover to get it off but it's great, stays put all day and night until I take it off. I don't even use the waterproof version either but they do do one, it has blue writing instead of blue

surreygirl1987 · 20/10/2022 20:54

Do you have 'hooded eyes'? I have this issue - everything smudges so badly! I use Hourglass mascara and that works well thanks goodness. I actually stopped wearing mascara for months following a job interview where I got home to realise I had awful black smudges under my eyes!

middleofthelittle · 20/10/2022 21:00

Waterproof mascara and power your under eyes.

Luredbyapomegranate · 20/10/2022 21:02

Tubing mascara - like Clinique

And only put it on your top lashes, which also helps lift your eyes

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 20/10/2022 21:03

Tubing mascara. Clinique and No.7 both do good ones. Only thing that ever worked for my panda eyes.

MakeMineALarge1 · 20/10/2022 21:07

I'll definitely do the powder under eyebrows and look to change my mascara
I think it is oil related.

Another vote for tubing mascara. I tried sooooo many and always ended up with panda eyes. Tubing mascara was the answer. I like Clinique lash power.

Matildahoney · 20/10/2022 21:16

Another vote for Hourglass mascara, I've tried hundreds from collection to Dior and everything in between, waterproof and not waterproof (no exaggeration) clear mascara over the top of standard mascara can help, but since I've bought the Hourglass one it does not budge and my lashes are ridiculously long which can be why it happens

Blossomandbee · 20/10/2022 23:32

I have this problem with lots of mascaras too. I do think it's oil as I have slightly oily skin, plus the shape of your face and eye socket.
After a particularly bad mascara malfunction when out one day I switched to waterproof. The best one I've found that's not expensive is the Essence one from Wilko in the blue and white tube. Stays on all day.

thislittlelightofmineimgonnaletitshine · 21/10/2022 00:11

I'd have thought you just need a waterproof one!

thislittlelightofmineimgonnaletitshine · 21/10/2022 00:12

What is tubing mascara?
