Socks that are comfy and actually last (yes, I know it's boring)

Where do you buy your socks? Now that we've reached sock season, I've noticed that most of mine are worn through the sole or have a toe poking out. I have very long big toes and often poke holes in my socks. I keep looking at nicer, thicker socks, but then recoil at the price and scurry back to M&S or h&m for more crap stuff.

I also don't want sock with pastel floral patterns or cutesy woodland creatures - although I do like bright colours and stripes so they don't need to be all black. We live in an old house so something a bit thicker with lots of natural fibres would be good.

What socks have lasted well for you?

Bumping in hope of some answers!

I have had nice socks from Pringle but the women's socks don't last half as well as the men's, but the men's are far too big and chunky. I'm thinking of trying Seasalt - the men's are unusually tight around the ankle so hoping the women's aren't the same.

Dr Martin socks are great.

AbsoluteYawns · 28/09/2022 20:13

Calvin Klein and DKNY socks are good and last very well. Get them in TKMAXX for a good price.

SatinHeart · 28/09/2022 20:18

Elle ones from sockshop (online) have always been good for me. They last well.

TheUntiedShoelace · 28/09/2022 20:19

BAM socks are lovely and soft, but do wear through at the heels really quickly.

I had a look at Seasalt and nearly dismissed them because they seemed to have just cutesy prints - but then I saw the box of 7 pairs for £37.95. The womens socks are in bright block colours - I approve- and men's are nice dark stripy ones. Only problem is that both come in one size only. I have size 7 feet and aforementioned poky big toes, so one size stuff us usually small on me. I wonder what the men's sock sizing is like

My husband wears Jeep socks, they last and they do them in ladies sizes. My best ones are zoned hiking socks but I won them and I've had them for years so can't remember the brand

MrJi · 28/09/2022 20:28

Alpaca socks are really warm and last well.

TheSausageKingofChicago · 28/09/2022 20:47

I love. Nordic socks. Thick, cosy, cute patterns. I get them from Amazon.

Pigtailsandall · 28/09/2022 20:54

Thank you all - I shall have a look at all the brands mentioned. I'm not looking for super-thick, fluffy house/bed socks, just slightly thicker regular socks I can wear in trainers and boots. Sorry should've made that clear!

Bridgedales! The medium ones aren't too thick, I've had some pairs for years and they are still going strong

DSGR · 28/09/2022 21:29

I found Seasalt socks weirdly tight after a few washes. My Hobbs socks are great

Reluctantadult · 28/09/2022 22:13

One Christmas I bought my mum, sister and nana some Miss Sparrow bamboo socks. They sell them in a shop where I live. They all independently contacted me to say how great the socks were. So I got myself some too and they're on their 2nd year now still good. I looked them up and came across this website www.socksnob.co.uk/product-category/ladies-bamboo-socks/

I second BAM socks - they make me so happy, I feel like my feet are being hugged when I wear them. For some reason they send me a free pair every so often - and I love them for it!!

MsFogi · 28/09/2022 22:16

I should have said - none of my BAM socks have worn through, I wear them all the time and have had a number of pairs for years.

SillyBub · 28/09/2022 22:18

I have size 7 feet and have always gone through socks in double quick time. I've now migrated over to M&S small men's socks (6-8½) and it's a frigging revelation. I just wish I'd twigged that Suzi a size existed before I got to the grand old age of 44.

Shinyandnew1 · 28/09/2022 22:18

Both Bam and Thought socks are fabulous-really warm and well padded at the heel and toe; I’ve never found any pairs of either brand to wear through!

PeanutJellyAndButter · 28/09/2022 22:21

I really like icebreaker socks and darn tough Both are made of pure wool and supposed to have a lifetime guarantee against holes. They are on the thicker side so my husband won’t wear them.

Love Bam socks too although have had them wear through the heels but really after a year or more so I’m okay with that. Sadly, they’ve not sent me freebies for ages!

Sockshop is great. Their bamboo underwear and loungewear range is lovely too.

Dallasdays · 28/09/2022 22:23

Another lover of BAM here! Sooo cost - they give me happiness. They do wear but I still love them as do my kids!

Dallasdays · 28/09/2022 22:24

*cosy!

Second Elle and Jeep socks, I usually get 2-3 years out of them with daily winter wear. I have some fluffy lined seasalt ones but they're very narrow and tight, zero stretch to them.

I'm size 7 and the seasalt socks are fine. I think they are quite generous.
