Socks that are comfy and actually last (yes, I know it's boring)

Where do you buy your socks? Now that we've reached sock season, I've noticed that most of mine are worn through the sole or have a toe poking out. I have very long big toes and often poke holes in my socks. I keep looking at nicer, thicker socks, but then recoil at the price and scurry back to M&S or h&m for more crap stuff.

I also don't want sock with pastel floral patterns or cutesy woodland creatures - although I do like bright colours and stripes so they don't need to be all black. We live in an old house so something a bit thicker with lots of natural fibres would be good.

What socks have lasted well for you?

Argh a rogue “there” instead of “they’re”

minipie · 29/09/2022 10:06

I have BAM socks too, love them, none of the heels have worn through even slightly after several years wear. I wonder if it’s to do with foot shape or what shoes you wear. Toe is just starting to go on one pair but as I say this is after several years.

Sketchers and nike trainer trainer socks are the only ones that stay in place

I think you're right - it depends on the person. I have BAM socks I've had for years and years, no holes or thin patches. DS has managed to hole some of his in under a year.

Falke are expensive but they last forever. I have had one of the woollen (Berlin) pairs for five years, worn twice or three times a week in the winter. They bobble a bit but don’t hole.

they do shrink a bit ( although I am in between sizes so have to get the slightly too small rather than much too, large) but I just put them over some old slippers to dry.

BAM socks are lovely and soft, but do wear through at the heels really quickly.

I love these.
For some reason they send me 3 or 4 free pairs a year, no idea why but I can’t remember the last time I bought socks

Finisterre are another UK sustainable brand. Pretty but worth it I reckon. They have a 3 for 2 offer on many socks at the mo.

I'm a size 7, have bumpy feet and walk a lot so go through socks v quickly. Finisterre are the best I've found so far. Their Last Long Ribbed socks are amazing.
Though sadly found their Last Long Original socks are too tight at the top :(

*Pricey not pretty.

Hello all, just came back to my old thread to say I bought some Pringles socks on recommendation here, and they've lasted well. I also got a box of socks from Thought at Christmas and they seem fine too.

Summer sock query - I need some white (or light) trainer socks for the summer. I have some from M&S and they are terrible, and some from Next which have been ok but have worn through v quickly. Any recommendations?

Muji! Great socks.

Badbudgeter · 20/05/2023 23:10

I bought danish endurance merino socks off Amazon recently so comfy, slightly thick. I’m hoping they have longevity. Big feet here so I went with the mens

whatapalavaaa · 21/05/2023 09:11

BAM here too. They’re pricey but so comfy, the trainer socks are a bit thicker than the ankle socks. They take forever to dry and I’m guilty of tumble drying them so they don’t last as long as they could but worth it.

AnxiousShep · 21/05/2023 09:43

@Jellylover do they have a toe seam?

Jellylover · 21/05/2023 10:21

@AnxiousShep yes they do, but are very comfortable, soft and warm.

I found Seasalt socks weirdly tight after a few washes. My Hobbs socks are great

Same here. Washed at 30 and became really tight.

AnxiousShep · 21/05/2023 10:48

@Jellylover, thank you. They look lovely but I need ones without a seam.

Ariela · 21/05/2023 11:17

Men's socks. Any men's socks that are of decent initial thickness.
