Beauty advent 22 part 2 (massive spoilers)

I don't know the etiquette of starting a runover of someone else's thread. I hope this is OK.

Reminder advent22 gives a hand-wash and handcream free gift on space nk.

I bought it, but now I have alight regret. I should have held out to see what harrods had.

The CEO cream wasn't 5oz as had been trailed on many calendar sites, but 0.5oz, 15ml. 5oz would have been a ridiculous size so that makes sense.

I was disappointed with Harrods too @Twinsandsome & in fact a bit disappointed with all the high end ones. Which is bloody typical now I've got the money to splurge on one!

So I'm just going to treat myself to two affordable ones the M&S one & the Arran A/C as everyone raved about it last year though I do like the Anthropologie A/C.
Though I could go for all 3 & have a Janvent & a Febvent too 😆

I’ve bought the MAC calendar for a combined Christmas and birthday gift for my teen DD (Christmas baby!) Even though she is registered blind (she has approximately 10pc sight), DD is an absolute whizz at her make-up. I bought it from LookFantastic and got 5pc discount. It looks great and like really good value, so I’m hoping she will be delighted.

Has anyone here tried the LookFantastic own-brand calendar? I’m not really into beauty (a slick of lipstick and I’m good to go) but I’m a sucker for relaxation products like candles and diffusers plus luxurious face creams. And I’m an even bigger sucker when I’m told that I’m saving £300+!

SoloCat · 01/10/2022 17:30

@SilverLiningPlaybook I had the boxes from the start, the first ones were the best. I found the last one not great, but for free I’m not going to moan too much 😁 I like the fact that I have money saved and can use it for anything.
I’ll keep it going for now, see what the next box is like….and it did help with the advent outlay.

Twinsandsome · 01/10/2022 17:41

@tassen it’s Sod’s law.
I think I’m happy to go for JL if I can get it. I need a new setting powder and do like the LM one, use olaplex so another 28 of stuff I buy anyways I will regift the CT pallet to SIL for Christmas so another £30 justified and I like NEOM candles and dermalogica so again I think the rest is all free. There is a couple of things in it I haven’t tried before so I will enjoy trying them too. X

Zeeza · 01/10/2022 17:45

My teen has the mac calendar too. A total splurge, but she uses every bit so I justify it to myself 😬 And it's beautifully put together.

I got the Alice in wonderland lookfantastic calendar years ago. Such a gateway drug.

M and s do nice boxes with bath products, candles and diffusers at Christmas. Wait til they are half price though.

I've seen good value soap and bathbomb calendars. And expensive single brand calendars like white stuff and lush.

It might be worth looking at body shop? Or maybe l'occitane? They each have several options.

@Zeeza , I think I will love to regret venturing onto this thread! I’ve looked up the contents of the JL calendar. Oh my!

Out of interest, where have you seen decent bath bomb calendars as I also have a six-year-old who is partial to a bath bomb but the cheaper ones tend to cause skin reactions so we stick to trusted brands like M&S but they’re not cheap at £3 a pop?

EmmatheStageRat · 01/10/2022 18:04

…that should say ‘LIVE to regret’.

Vargas · 01/10/2022 18:16

Well this has been an interesting read! I bought the Fortnum and Mason one yesterday, I just really liked the look of it, and some of the others had products that I don't like or already have. It has Aromatherapy Associates which I LOVE . I can live without another Bum Bum cream though :-).

Now I am looking for teen, makeup loving dd. Top of my list for her so far are

Anthropologie
Charlotte T,
MAC
Next

I didn't really want to spend over £100 for her, but if she uses all the products I guess it's worth it - right? right? Other ideas welcome!!

Zeeza · 01/10/2022 18:21

@EmmatheStageRat I was thinking of these two. But others might know ones with more bombs and fewer soaps. beautyadventcalendar.net/bomb-cosmetics-advent-calendars-2022/

@vargas those are good ones. Maybe look at asos too? And elle if there is a discount code again - look for it to go to 140 or cheaper.

redredwineub40 · 01/10/2022 19:13

I've had some decent bath bombs with essential oils on Amazon (dds have sensitive skin too) but still looking at £2 a bomb

Nearlyadoctor · 01/10/2022 19:30

@Vargas - have you looked at the ASOS one? I’ve bought it for Dd (15) and coincidentally F&M for myself 😊

redredwineub40 · 01/10/2022 19:45

Hmmm see what you mean re Harrods contents - not very exciting and hard to see how that adds up to £1136

Agree with this ... I made a deal with myself to have a No Beauty Spend this year and pay instead into the Beauty Drop and the boxes were a lovely bonus which also helped quell my urge to Spend on Beauty Grin

I specifically wanted to get the calendar this year as I've coveted a high end one for years so this has worked great for me,

I think I'll keep my subs going next year and treat myself to something nice in the sales perhaps timed with a gift with purchase and enjoy the boxed for a while longer

EmmatheStageRat · 01/10/2022 20:29

Just to advise any My John Lewis card holders that there is currently £15 off a £150 spend. The advent calendar is meant to go live on Monday and the discount offer is valid until 11.59pm the same day. I can’t see any exclusions relating to beauty advent calendars in the offer terms and conditions.

Zeeza · 01/10/2022 21:40

Yes, we are hoping that works. The date I've seen for the launch is Tuesday 4th October. The voucher is valid til then.

I think that not all myjohnlewis members have it in their app though.

What's the free gift?

www.lookfantastic.com/beauty-box/the-beauty-treats-bundle-worth-over-200/13811903.html

With code GIFT :) so £95 for that and the calendar.

FredaFox · 01/10/2022 22:34

Oooh thanks, something to think about

I’m not overwhelmed by the products in the calendar though.

Be careful how long you leave it @SoloCat. I saw in the small print that you only have a certain amount of time to use the credit (12 months I think?), otherwise you lose it. It was one of the things that put me off.

Zeeza · 01/10/2022 23:00

Well that woke me up, the chance I might lose my credit. On the bold print it says I can use the credit anytime. And the small print (point C.11) suggests that it expires 12 months after you LEAVE the beauty drop. So as long as you pay your 20 every month it doesn't expire.

It is silly.for me to let it build up though. I was going to buy thr AC but it doesn't appeal.

Thanks for that Midnight, that’s something I never checked, and very sneaky of them! It does put you off doesn’t it 🤔

Woke me up too 😁..thanks for the info

Thank you both for taking time and reading the fine print …ignorance is definitely not bliss in this case 😬

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 02/10/2022 09:14

I haven't seen anyone mention the Jo Malone AC yet, has anyone had this before was it worth it? Would love to hear opinions on this one
