Work night out - what to wear?

PeachMelba78 · 27/08/2022 18:50

I have a work night out on Friday, at a crazy golf place, 18+.
I have just joined the team, in one of the more senior positions.
From looking at the website of the crazy golf place it seems to be younger women pictured in crop tops, trainers, short shorts etc.
I’m 44 and a size 8. I was thinking about wearing white trainers, a pair of longer shorts (high waisted to hide my mum tum), and maybe a camisole and an oversized blazer?
I have a ton of clothes so I really don’t want/need to buy any more.

The team is generally more casual than I am, so I’m trying to fit in without dressing too young. I’ll try on a few outfits and upload them for your opinions - please be kind!

That sounds fine to me

WalkingOnSonshine · 27/08/2022 19:51

Think that sounds spot on!

PeachMelba78 · 27/08/2022 19:58

Thanks both, here are some options -

  1. Black jacket and camisole - is the cami too revealing if I get hot (Perimenopausal)
  2. Khaki jumpsuit
  3. White jacket and polka dot playsuit - strappy so could be a bit revealing, plus I need to sort out the buttons at the front. Plus I think I need to be more tanned to wear it

And here are some more -
4 White top and jacket, pink shorts - the top neckline clashes a bit, plus I this my boobs look a bit bandaged
5 Same on top but black shorts - a bit better

I know I need to iron my clothes, and I need new laces and to clean the second pair of trainers - please look past that!

Polka dot for me. Or I'd wear jeans, cami and blazer.

WalkingOnSonshine · 27/08/2022 20:06

Curveball - id go pink shorts, black cami, white jacket.

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 27/08/2022 20:08

You have great legs. Will you be hot with a blazer on? Maybe khaki better as you don't need jacket over

PeachMelba78 · 27/08/2022 20:15

Thanks all!
I like the curveball! I will try it on tomorrow.
The khaki is so easy, I wear it constantly but they haven’t seen it.
I will probably wear fake tan so the polka dots could maybe still work, with a less padded bra as the buttons are straining (I will also try moving them a bit)

@BryceQuinlanTheFirst I may get too hot which is why I want to feel ok without a jacket too

I forgot - I also have this top which could work with the black shorts and white (or black) blazer?

I’m not sure I’m loving the look?
kind of the wrong proportion on skin showing, covered :)
what about the khaki jumpsuit with the sleeves pushed up

PeachMelba78 · 27/08/2022 21:30

Sorry to disappoint @nzeire but that’s my look, it’s what I feel comfortable in. I don’t really do the push up sleeves thing but I will try.

There’s always a jealous one ! OP they all look great TBH

PeachMelba78 · 27/08/2022 21:53

@isitfridayyet22 I don’t think it’s jealously, just different tastes.
Im short, and I am conscious of my stomach and boobs as they are bigger than they were, but I do have short arms so sleeve pushing (or whatever it’s called) could be something to try. I just don’t want to look too young or too try hard.

nzeire · 27/08/2022 22:30

Ah no, not trying to be mean or jealous! You have a beautiful figure and lovely clothes. It was just my inelegant observations.

I have my own particular “rules” and I guess skin / clothing ratio is on of them!

carry on, you look fab, don’t stress or overthink. Anyone any age would LOVE to have your figure

have fun

EarringsandLipstick · 27/08/2022 22:53

You've a lovely figure OP, I just don't think any of those outfits work on you or are really working for a night out like you describe.

Why not just shorts + top, with denim jacket if needed? Rather than those blazers which do look out of proportion with what's on the bottom.
How about a summery dress? Or jeans & one of the tops?

notacooldad · 27/08/2022 23:00

There’s always a jealous one
What the hell?
Someone expresses an opinion they were asked for and it's not that person's taste and the response is they are jealous?
I dont like the look but appreciate its Op's style and that's fine. I'm not jealous either 🤷‍♀️

Worriedmum40284 · 27/08/2022 23:07

I think all look great on your but I particularly like the khaki jumpsuit and think it works well for the event you describe/your position in the team. Would love to be able to wear these sorts of things but do not have the right figure in any of the places Grin Enjoy!

PeachMelba78 · 28/08/2022 07:00

@EarringsandLipstick I wouldn’t wear a denim jacket, blazers are much more my style and around here that’s what people wear.
I do wear dresses but my dresses are either work wear or more evening wear - my casual dresses are too casual - beach wear or height of summer - I’m in Scotland where it’s not the height of summer, but I really like wearing shorts.
I also hate wearing jeans, I get hot flushes and I find having my legs out helps regulate my temperature. Plus I find jeans uncomfortable.
It’s interesting that people are saying that the look is unbalanced as I don’t think this look is - is it just because she has pushed her sleeves up?

LairyMcClairy · 28/08/2022 07:16

The white blazer is too blocky/dominating for the look I think.
id do pink shorts, cami and the black jacket but I agree a denim jacket would be best for the venue.

LairyMcClairy · 28/08/2022 07:17

Or sleeves pushed up on the jumpsuit- that would work too.

EarringsandLipstick · 28/08/2022 07:36

I don’t think this look is - is it just because she has pushed her sleeves up?

It's a way more dressy look than you've planned though - she's taller & with a longer torso than you have (she's just taller overall really, and she's wearing heels. It elongates the whole look.

At the end of the day it's what you are comfortable in, so I take your points. I don't think the style suits you massively, given that you've a lovely figure but that's only my opinion so feel free to discount!

PeachMelba78 · 28/08/2022 07:42

@EarringsandLipstick she’s actually shorter than me (she’s a blogger, extra petite) and also slimmer than me too!
Yes the nude heels obviously help but that’s not what I was focusing on.

I would never wear a denim jacket as I think it’s so dated right now, but I do think some of my clothes are a little too small as I have fluctuated with my weight a little. I will try on some more styles today.

1 or 3, but they all look great. Have fun!

girlmom21 · 28/08/2022 07:49

I like the khaki play suit best. Where's that from?
