Holy grail of shower gel

leftshark · 24/08/2022 15:55

After yet another disappointment and an excemza breakout, I need help finding my holy grail of body wash.

I have been trying This Works but this seems to have just killed my skin, I assume because of the essential oils. Generally, i have my skin, make up and hair brands sorted but even when I try the shower gel of my most loved brands I end up either allergic or just don’t like them. Can anyone help?

requirements are:

  • Something moisturising, rich and gentle, and not foamy

  • preferably a cream rather than a gel or oil

  • either non perfumed or a very bland perfume (I only really like almond, vanilla or similar scents in toiletries)

  • something that won’t break me out 😭 so hypoallergenic or as natural/organic as possible

  • nice packaging that will look nice in the bathroom

  • something feels a bit luxurious even for the every day

My usual brands for hair/face/makeup are a mish mash of Aveda, Drunk Elephant, Beauty Pie, Oaui, Clinique - so I’m not a clean-beauty only devotee but do like something mid-range and leaning on the vegan/organic side of things.

Anyone got any recommendations for simple, luxurious and non-ezxema inducing brands? I do use E45 when I’m having a flare up but want something that feels a bit more indulgent for the day to day. Price wise - can go up to mid/high end if needed - just desperate to find the right product.

thank you wise S&Bers!

Would you consider a bar? Looks great sitting on a dish. Chateau de Savon do a collection of soaps appropriate for people with eczema. Get a nice mitt to gently smooth the soap across your skin. Bliss.

Korres olive oil unscented. Its not a cream but was so gentle.

Or lush do some sort of oat thing I forget the name of

Not sure about a creamy based shower gel but don't Argan do some?

Or what about L'Occitaine? Their Almond shower oil ( yes) is lovely.

Or you could try REN which are gentle.

another thought- Tropic shower bars- they look like soap but are a bit foamy but gentle.

I was coming on to recommend that almond shower oil, it's really lovely and not greasy.

I dont find the l’occitane almond shower oil very cleansing. Its ok but not my favourite.

Rutland2022 · 24/08/2022 19:54

This probably doesn’t suit from a packaging point of view, but you could decant it. My go to for my hyper sensitive skin is Aveeno.

Philosophy is great, when my skin is bad I can only use aqueous cream but since I've been using philosophy I have been fine.

Yes! Elemis skin nourishing shower cream. Not cheap- it’s about £30- but absolutely amazing for eczema prone skin. DD loves it.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 24/08/2022 20:03

L'Occitane do some lovely shower gels/cleansers. You can get multipack trial sizes to try. The lavender, lemon verbena & almond ones are gorgeous.
You can get discount codes for the L'Occitane site.
www.allbeauty.com have some good deals.
www qvcuk.com often have bundles on offer as well.

Sanex, keeps skin soft, smells nice and cheap

Tuxedokitty · 24/08/2022 20:16

I love Moroccan black soap and stock up whenever on holiday there. There's a brand called Sens de Marrakech which is lovely. I'm not sure if you can get it in the UK

polkadotpixie · 24/08/2022 21:15

I just use Sanex, it's cheap, doesn't smell of much and doesn't irritate me

I used to love Sanex but they’ve messed with it and now my skin says No. So annoying!

Dove Relax body wash, the purple one. Cheap, nice looking bottle, does the job for me

Blackdiame · 24/08/2022 23:06

My sister has bad eczema on the inner elbows and knees and she uses Child's Farm which is very soothing. I've used their shampoos sometimes when I get a sensitive scalp and it's lovely being able to clense properly and not aggravate any itching.

Shower gel leaves a film on your skin. Why not try a gentle soap like the Dr Organics range from Holland and Barrett?

sunglassesonthetable · 24/08/2022 23:31

When my OH was having Chemo and his skin became hyper sensitive, one of the brands recommended to him by the HCP was Aveeno. They do a body wash and and a moisturising cream.

PeloAddict · 25/08/2022 00:45

Aveeno
sanex zero kids

(neither of these are in any way luxurious)
or
Korres

Jarstastic · 25/08/2022 07:52

Jason Ticks off most of your list. my favourite is the rose but also like lavender and aloe Vera. (I don’t like the citrusy ones not as mild)
really good value too.

the bottle may not be nice enough for you. You could buy a dispenser. Eg muji does a nice white smart one.
