Holy grail of shower gel

After yet another disappointment and an excemza breakout, I need help finding my holy grail of body wash.

I have been trying This Works but this seems to have just killed my skin, I assume because of the essential oils. Generally, i have my skin, make up and hair brands sorted but even when I try the shower gel of my most loved brands I end up either allergic or just don’t like them. Can anyone help?

requirements are:

  • Something moisturising, rich and gentle, and not foamy

  • preferably a cream rather than a gel or oil

  • either non perfumed or a very bland perfume (I only really like almond, vanilla or similar scents in toiletries)

  • something that won’t break me out 😭 so hypoallergenic or as natural/organic as possible

  • nice packaging that will look nice in the bathroom

  • something feels a bit luxurious even for the every day

My usual brands for hair/face/makeup are a mish mash of Aveda, Drunk Elephant, Beauty Pie, Oaui, Clinique - so I’m not a clean-beauty only devotee but do like something mid-range and leaning on the vegan/organic side of things.

Anyone got any recommendations for simple, luxurious and non-ezxema inducing brands? I do use E45 when I’m having a flare up but want something that feels a bit more indulgent for the day to day. Price wise - can go up to mid/high end if needed - just desperate to find the right product.

thank you wise S&Bers!

Aveeno is wonderful but not a very special bottle if that is criteria.

I battled psoriasis for years. But once I stopped using anything with sulphates it cleared up pretty quickly (ditto dandruff). I use bar soap - the highland soap company have a great range, are not over-scented and have no SLS - or Jason showergels which are gentle and foam well despite the lack of sulphates. (The bottles are not pretty tho!)

Aveeno still gave me the itch altho I like their shampoos which don’t seem to.

On holiday in France, I’ve found a huge range of stuff without sulphates and have been enjoying trying it out!

I too use a good natural SLS free bar soap and then moisturise well.
You can choose beautiful ones such as from the vegan friendly soap shop.
They don’t irritate my skin like shower gel and I feel really clean and fresh.

MooGoo Milk Wash fits all the criteria I think - apart from luxury as it's not hugely pricey or beautifully packaged. But it might be worth trying it anyway as if your skin loves it you'll probably cope with the packaging. My awful sensitive eczema skin thinks it's wonderful.

Fresh milk shower wash.

VioletInsolence · 25/08/2022 11:06

Aveeno Dermexa

Roselilly36 · 25/08/2022 11:08

My favourite is Fenjal shower crème, not too expensive, but a lovely fragrance, feels luxurious.

SizzlerFizzler · 25/08/2022 11:15

La Roche-Posay Baby Lipikar AP+ Syndet Body Wash

leftshark · 25/08/2022 14:41

Thank you all so much! Going to work my way through the recommendations but this is brilliant - i have hope again!

Buy a fancy dispenser and fill it with one of the cheaper nice options that dont come in a fancy bottle?

PicketRingFenced · 25/08/2022 14:42

I'm very happy with my Palmolive Milk and honey shower gel. I often use Sanex or buy huge shower gels from TKMaxx. But I keep repurchasing the Palmolive.

Am also currently using a huge bar of soap from Neste Dante which I bought when in Lake Como a few weeks ago.

My whole family has eczema breakouts.

This year we have taken daily antihistamines since spring and it's been a game changer. We wash with Dove soap bar - gels get used up way too quickly. Bars last much longer and are cheaper.

Rahrahrahrahannoyed · 25/08/2022 15:24

I'd have Fenjal if I could afford it

leftshark · 25/08/2022 16:29

Also - I feel like I have made myself look very superficial, the packaging etc isn’t the be all and end all. It’s just nice to have little luxuries on the day to day and I tend to associate higher price points with less synthetic/allergenic items… but perhaps that isn’t true

This Necessaire body wash is really nice and the packaging is chic if you like simple minimalist style.

On offer at Waitrose atm £2.89 or something.

Jason Natural Care Natural Body Wash is great, also Weleda Shower Wash - both creamy, good with sensitive skin, and in neutral / subtle scents.

Fritilleries · 25/08/2022 21:01

Dove soap bar. I have sensitive skin and wash at the sink. That way, my entire body doesn't get soaped up unnecessarily and I still stay clean where it matters. I like dropping essential oils into the water to jazz it up.

PurpleSneakers · 26/08/2022 08:39

Agree with pp - Weleda Vitality Sea Buckthorn Creamy Body Wash- soothing and gentle.

Luredbyapomegranate · 26/08/2022 08:41

I have eczema and shocker dry skin and L’occitane Almond shower oil does it for me. It’s expensive but it lasts. Smells lovely too.

@dannydyerismydad

I might try that. Is it spring and summer allergy related or are you going to try taking it all year?

WouldBeGood · 26/08/2022 08:52
