Sagging face and 45. What would you recommend? (Unflattering anonymised photo attached!)

I’m 45 and have lost volume in my face giving me quite deep circles under my eyes and lines from my nose to my mouth with marionette lines developing underneath. My pores are quite big and visible too.

I don’t get enough sleep - so that’s number one - but what else would you recommend?

Do collagen supplements actually work? Face massage?

I run, that’s my only exercise. Are things like yoga good for your face?! (All that upside down blood flowing etc).

What would a mini face lift do for me? Feels drastic but honestly, I’d love to lose those hollow eye bags forever!

Or expensive facials? A change of diet? I eat pretty well already. Lots of fresh food.

Help! I want to feel good about the way I look again!

Please excuse the absolutely awful photo!!

You could do a bit of filler around the cheeks and mid face to replace lost volume and Profhilo is good for generally smoothing everything out. Then an all over lift with Ultherapy (lasts a year). Tixel is good for overlarge pores. All that would be quite expensive though!

HangingOver · 09/07/2022 23:21

There's a specific filler treatment for under eye too, Google tear trough filler. Make sure you get a really experienced practitioner though because it's trickier than cheeks, lips etc

RopeyOldBird · 09/07/2022 23:33

I actually think you look fine.
But I quite like lines and wrinkles, as they all tell a story. I'm weird, sorry.

Annoymousy · 09/07/2022 23:41

Thank you for this advice - googling it all now!

Wrinkles I don’t mind - but my under eye bags make me look so tired and unwell. I’ve always had circles under my eyes, but now they’re really hollow.

I must admit, I’m a little scared of surgery! But I’d like to be able to go out without feeling like I needed makeup!

I recently had tear trough fillers, it was my first ever procedure on my face so I was nervous but I'm very happy with the results.
I did a lot of research to find an experienced practitioner beforehand. He used 0.5ml on each side.

DaisyDando · 09/07/2022 23:50

I think I you look nice.

Notnastypasty · 09/07/2022 23:51

I had tear trough filler last year and am really happy with the results. She also put a little bit in my cheeks (so you don’t get a ridged look under the eye) and it has lifted my face up so lines around my mouth are less obvious too.

it wasn’t so obvious that people noticed but friends said I looked really fresh and my make up sits so much better and I’m happier to not wear any sometimes too.

WarrenGRegulate · 09/07/2022 23:59

I also actually think you look fine, your face doesn’t look like it’s sagging to me..your skin looks fresh and healthy!

Letschangemyname · 10/07/2022 00:09

I agree with previous posts, i think you look fine i'm 39 and would love skin like yours!

OnenessWithAllStrife · 10/07/2022 00:14

you would be surprised with face yoga, no cost, decent results. However, you look early 30's to me so take that as you will.
we shouldn't be fixated with ageing, it is gonna happen and we need to alter priorities as we grow older. I always feel that ageing with grave is more attractive, but that's just me! I can't be arsed with fillers or botox as it is a wheel you can't get off once you jump on, regardless how fervently peope defend it. There's nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't really make anyone look younger.

OnenessWithAllStrife · 10/07/2022 00:15

with 'grace'.

OnenessWithAllStrife · 10/07/2022 00:22

For reference, I am nearly 50. Here is a webcam shot from just now of me with my face relaxed and tired. The next pic is of me smiling. Our faces are so mobile and animated in real life that age doesn't show so specifically moment by moment. I am not 24, obviously, but I think we give ourselves too hard a time!

No fucking way am I interested in screwing my individuality up with surgery. Yet!

larkstar · 10/07/2022 00:33

I think you look absolutely fine as you are.

JanePrentiss · 10/07/2022 00:33

Hopefully over time will your sleep situation improve?

Please don't feel the need to resort to surgery and fillers. It's terrifying how women are seeing this as a normal thing to surgically alter their face for no reason other than looking better.

Your skin looks excellent, think over time sleep will help most.

astorsback · 10/07/2022 00:41

Sleep is the best solution.

You could use some botox in your chin to relax the muscles there.

you look lovely though. nice skin.

Annoymousy · 10/07/2022 01:05

Thank you so much everyone! Okay I will try sleep (!) and maybe some face yoga?

What do people think of taking collagen? I’m a vegetarian so I was looking at the veggie one. Which might be pointless?!

The eye bags drive me crazy. They’re there sleep or no sleep, but particularly bad when there’s not enough sleep!

This.

Try smiling while at home (hard to do when you feel like shit, and haven't slept). Try doing uplifting things. Have a hot shower, or a warm bath; put on music you like, do a silly dance or walk as you go about your business now and then, crack a joke to yourself. A day of smiling, even fake smiling (I don't mean bang it on out in public), and laughing will work out those muscles that are currently sagging. Also some exercise (a brisk walk) will bring some oxygen to the skin and improve the colour and tone. A lot less invasive than a face lift...

Vitamin c supplements help the body to produce its own collagen. Look up tapping videos or acupuncture for natural facelift. Also cut down on salt in your diet and drink at least 2 litres of water per day for eye bags. Might be worth trying a detox tea or liver cleanse tea for a few weeks too.

Tabbouleh · 10/07/2022 04:55

Honestly I think you look fine, attractive even. I know that's unhelpful. I have very strong feelings-prob too strong to be aired on S and B- about how women are not allowed to age naturally. Personally I like a mobile face. The second poster who posted is positively gorgeous!

I have massive under eye bags but I am never taking a needle to my face. DH has them too and he is unbothered. I do use tretinoin and it has made a massive difference to my skin, though not for the sagging. You can get it on Dermatica ( though I get mine overseas).

hmm I will look tretinoin up! I am quite scared of surgery, tbh! But just sick of the eye bags bringing me down!

I'm the same age as you OP, you look like an attractive woman and I wouldn't mess with that! I do take collagen supplements, proto-col and I feel like they make a difference. Also another vote for facial exercises, I do them when I'm watching TV! Get lots of compliments on how I'm aging, but of course I see the sagging and eye bags....we're always hardest on ourselves!

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 11/07/2022 04:03

I think you look quite fresh to be honest and if the bags are getting you down just get a good qualified medical doctor to put a tiny bit of filler, not sure what name is of it but it will make a difference. Don't be so hard on yourself you are young.
