Sagging face and 45. What would you recommend? (Unflattering anonymised photo attached!)

I’m 45 and have lost volume in my face giving me quite deep circles under my eyes and lines from my nose to my mouth with marionette lines developing underneath. My pores are quite big and visible too.

I don’t get enough sleep - so that’s number one - but what else would you recommend?

Do collagen supplements actually work? Face massage?

I run, that’s my only exercise. Are things like yoga good for your face?! (All that upside down blood flowing etc).

What would a mini face lift do for me? Feels drastic but honestly, I’d love to lose those hollow eye bags forever!

Or expensive facials? A change of diet? I eat pretty well already. Lots of fresh food.

Help! I want to feel good about the way I look again!

Please excuse the absolutely awful photo!!

Nothing you eat or put on your face will give you back lost volume.

Actually, if you eat loads you'll gain volume but that's not the point..

Your skin is very nice, smooth and seems very healthy.

I think the only thing that will address your concerns is adding volume back into your face with fillers. And botox or filler to fix the puckering on your chin.

Any good cosmetic doctor will give you a consultation and come up with a treatment plan.

Iammeiamfree · 11/07/2022 05:40

Your skin is really good op, you look a lot better than you think

AceofPentacles · 11/07/2022 06:19

I wouldn't recommend surgery on eye bags, DM had hers done in her 40s and as an older woman they are now completely hollow and very unflattering. I think you look fine. Have a few lovely facials perhaps and get some sleep.

OhMerde · 11/07/2022 06:46

Are you very lean from running? Running isn't known for being great for your face.

You had some good advice already. Mid face and tear trough fillers. Tret for continued good skin. Sleep and a pescatarian diet. The jury is out with collagen. Plus a gradual coming to terms with ageing. You're still very young but things don't improve I'm afraid as the years march on, so you do have to try to accept some changes.

OhMerde · 11/07/2022 06:49

Oh and you haven't got eyebags, you've got hollows where the fat pads have started to descend South. If you want to address this, it's tear trough fillers, plus mid face fillers for scaffolding.

I'm conflicted because I do agree that women aren't allowed to age gracefully and in itself that is terrible. However, I also know that my constant internal monologue about how dreadful I look is quietened a bit when I have Botox.

Sadly nothing is going to rid you of the hollows below your eyes now that the fat has started to migrate. Sleep, water and so on will go part way to mitigate it, but not totally, so it becomes a matter of whether or not you want a 'quick fix'.

Tret and Vitamin C serum have done wonders for the smoothness of my skin in the last couple of years, so you might want to look into that. I have heard that people have great results with facial yoga but I've never been able to keep at it so can't vouch for its efficacy myself but could be worth a try?

All that said, you look wonderful as you are. We are hardest on ourselves and most people don't give us much more than a passing thought.

EarringsandLipstick · 11/07/2022 07:28

God OP, I hope you don't listen to some of the advice here.

You've lovely skin. I don't really see the bags - but I'd be looking at concealer and make up rather than cosmetic treatments.

You're tired - that's the best thing you can address.

That photo is nearly an unsmiling one of you; smiling I think you'd look lovely, as your face comes to life.

Of course focus on non-interventionist treatments if you like, I don't think they do a massive amount other than make us feel better - which is good in itself of course.

Oorwulliesbucket · 11/07/2022 07:28

I agee that running is great excercise but hard on the face!!! You look good though 😀

quietnightmare · 11/07/2022 07:30

You look amazing but if you don't feel you do then Filler and concealer.

firefly123 · 11/07/2022 07:30

I think you look good for 45 OP. No need for filler

LizzieSiddal · 11/07/2022 07:39

OP you like great!

You say you want to beable to go out without makeup, getting surgery will not achieve that! As we age pigments in the skin change, so everything looks less defined.
Instead of thinking of interventions which you may regret, just spend 5 mins putting on a bit of makeup!

MsMillyMollyMandy · 11/07/2022 07:48

You are being very hard on yourself. Your skin and face are especially lovely 😊
I second the recommendation of Vitamin C serum.
Also found that after a recent 10 days spent in a very hot climate that my face looked unexpectedly fresh and lines had improved. Upon reflection I think it was the 3-4 litres of water a day and perhaps 10 days of no bread and Mediterranean diet. Unfortunately I am struggling to keep up the water intake now that I’m back to my normal daily routine.

Berlinlover · 11/07/2022 07:52

I’m also 45 and think you look fine.

Snoken · 11/07/2022 07:55

I agree that running is not ideal for your face at all. You are much better off doing things like yoga or pilates to tone up and then add 20 minutes of face yoga a day or every other day,. Whatever you have time with. Focus on the cheeks to get the plumpness back under your eyes.

There are lots of good creams/masks for the pores, but the main thing is to keep them clean and keep your face moisturised.

Drink lots of water, eat lots of green vegetables, limit your time in front of a screen and sleep.

Tabbouleh · 11/07/2022 08:08

God how depressing is this thread. Why give up running when you enjoy it and have a perfectly normal face for your age? Running is good for you. Obsessing over your face is not.

goodgoodday · 11/07/2022 08:19

Well, I like runners face! I wear it like a badge of honour!

Your age is not purely shown in your face. People don't think I look my age (50) and I run pretty much everyday about 10k. Part of not looking your age is looking physically fit and active. IMO that is much better than the bloated, immobile look fillers and Botox can give. If you are older and losing some of the skin structure elastin the extra padding can all look rather pouchy. Why people are attempting to add to that look I don't know.

But Op you look great. If you want to look more glam you could add a colourful blush or lipstick, nice pair of sunglasses. Or just a smile and an attitude of insouciance!😁

She does, she looks awesome. No one is dictating that the op give up running or doing what she loves thougg. She did however come on for specific advice on how her face looks. Runners face is a thing when you get older. You have to make choices and decisions. There are several paths to choose. Age naturally and either be happy and at peace with it, get out the big guns of facelift/fillers etc or find a happy medium. I personally go for a happy medium. Botox in the 11s, tret, stopped eating as much crap, mid face fillers once (you have to have a fair bit for it to make a difference) and a grudging acceptance that I look my age and not much can change that.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 11/07/2022 08:40

I just think you need to smile, you look great.

BoJoGoGo · 11/07/2022 08:43

A bit of filler in the jowl area and a tiny bit in the cheeks to hoist up the bottom half of your face would look fantastic. That’s what I have done once a year.

ShirleyJackson · 11/07/2022 08:43

Fillers.

Go to a good aesthetician, not a local salon.

Darren McKeown in Glasgow did mine, and changed my life. I don’t even think about my face any more.

He specialises in subtle work - he just puts back what used to be there.

I promise nobody would ever know.
