Size 16-18 what are you wearing in this heat?

I realised I looked awful today in black 3/4 trousers, pink linen-mix T-shirt and Fit Flops sandals. Not at all summery with the black trousers and boring overall.

For anyone a size 16-18 what are you wearing to keep cool? I’m particularly interested in skirts and long dresses- I never wear these as I can never find anything that suits me.

Looking at High St retailers clothing, mid-range.

Last summer I bought a couple of dresses from fatface and Oliver bonas. Unfortunately they are black (would have preferred navy or khaki) but they are fitted at the bust, with long tiered skirts. There was no avoiding the tiers cos they are everywhere. On the plus side I can wear them without a bra, the material is thick and strong and they've washed well.
I aldo have a couple of linen shift dresses from next - they seem to do the same ones every year just different patterns. I was lucky enough to get black and navy because I'm not wild about florals.
At home I tend to live in harem style trousers I got from Morrisons of all places. They aren't massive, so are loose enough to be comfy but still have some shape.
Its hard in summer!

This skirt from H&M ( although it's ankle
Length on me as I'm 5'4"
With a black linen sleeveless top and DM Voss sandals.

FlemCandango · 16/06/2022 08:08

I have some nice dresses from H&M sleeveless and midi length, loose fitted, and for sun protection over them I wear a plaid shirt with side stretch panels that I got a few years ago from TK Maxx and I always wear my chunky DM sandals - I am a tallish size 18 (age 48) the best tip I have is deodorant sprayed between thighs to prevent chafing.

I also have linen full length trousers and loose vest tops and a rather nice fringed cotton shirt that I wear over that. Loose cotton layers in the best quality you can afford so they fit well and have some structure is best - I cannot look good in fast fashion items. I have started making my own skirts and trousers to add to my wardrobe as there isn't much out there in my price range and I don't have the time to trawl charity shops much.

I wear a lot of dresses from Yours and Asos curve. Bright and colourful mid length ones. If you have a look on both sites there are tons!

FlemCandango · 16/06/2022 08:11

My favourite H&M dress

This is my current favourite one- it looks less like a tent in real life 😆

I've got some square necked vests and long floaty skirts from kettlewell, nomads and white stuff. Also twist fronted maxi dresses (with no tiers because I hate them!!!) which I got from lands end.

Chickadeeandchic · 16/06/2022 08:24

Jumpsuits from popsy - nice colourful prints but still flattering and basically like wearing smart pyjamas...no chub rub and pockets!

Favouritefruits · 16/06/2022 08:26

I want this heat, it’s only 15 degrees here today with highs of 16! I’m wearing thick leggings and a long t shirt!

OompaLoompaa · 16/06/2022 15:02

Midi dresses from Next
lightweight culottes with various blouses or T shirts.
Cross body bags and flip flops.

OompaLoompaa · 16/06/2022 15:04

Last year I bought a couple of midi length skirts from Hush but there are similar in M&S, Next etc.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 17/06/2022 13:09

I am a tall 16-18.

Today I'm wearing a loose fitting linen notch neck top in a blue and white Ikat print from M&S, and some navy twill chino shorts from Boden. I love the shorts as they are a flattering length - not too long or too short, and nicely wide at the leg so they don't look too tight.

Yesterday I wore a green tiered jersey dress from Next. It drapes really nicely and has some weight to it so moves well, but without feeling too heavy.

I have felt well put together both days - which is nice because I often don't!

JorisBonson · 17/06/2022 13:12

I'm at work in a white linen t-shirt, a black and white midi skirt and sandals. I'll be in wafty dresses for the rest of this heatwave!

GettingStuffed · 17/06/2022 13:47

Today I'm wearing these www.weirdfish.co.uk/p/women/shorts/i/willoughby-organic-cotton-summer-shorts-faded-jade-19142
A blue marl t shirt , years old from Primark
And white studded sandals

I'm doing the school run today so don't need to be dressed up

asteri76 · 17/06/2022 13:52

I have been wearing these dresses for the last few days.. Accessorising them with different belts and either wearing ankle boots or flats 😊

A green cotton floral midaxi from Next, Sloggi anti chafe shorts and gold Arizona Birkies

Mandypocket · 17/06/2022 16:59

I like this one www.pocketsforwomen.co.uk/product/12878/bahamas-womens-uv-protective-sleeveless-dress-navy. My MIL got this one and really rated it. It's apparently 'UV protective' (whatever that means!)

Basilbrushgotfat · 17/06/2022 17:01

Lined cotton dress. It's cool and comfortable but not very flattering.

I think I look like a blue croquembouche

DarlingCoffee · 17/06/2022 17:59

Fat face loose trousers with the elasticated waist - they are literally the most comfortable things ever . They make different patterns every year and I love them!!

I was wearing this today with a normal bra. Very cool and swishy

Daisy62 · 17/06/2022 18:19

Very thin sleeveless midi swishy dresses, have a black and a navy with a bit of a pattern. Quite see-through, so wearing over thin cycle shorts and shoestring strap top. Flat sandals. Am comfy and coolish.

Ooh where are these from?

StillSmallVoice · 17/06/2022 18:39

Sea salt do loose fitting linen dresses every year which are very good for hot weather. I bought a dress from Sahara a while ago which was expensive but somehow manages to make a shapeless dress shapely.

The point is natural fabrics and things which flow rather than cling.

ithoughtisawapuddycat · 17/06/2022 18:42

I'm a bigger size but have been wearing dresses from Morrisons in a size 22 and they are amazing. I do wear chub rub shorts underneath but they made of cooling fabric and I felt fab. Either wear them with white trainers or my Birkenstocks. Today was a bit cooler and just wore jeans, a floaty top and Birkenstocks to work.
