Size 16-18 what are you wearing in this heat?

I realised I looked awful today in black 3/4 trousers, pink linen-mix T-shirt and Fit Flops sandals. Not at all summery with the black trousers and boring overall.

For anyone a size 16-18 what are you wearing to keep cool? I’m particularly interested in skirts and long dresses- I never wear these as I can never find anything that suits me.

Looking at High St retailers clothing, mid-range.

Load of dresses but they're all from last year - Dorothy Perkins did a great maxi dress I bought in 3 patterns

@Afterfire
I wish to goodness the model in the Asos link would just stand up straight so we could see what the dress looks like full on.
All those stupid, weird poses. Zara does it too. It doesn't help sell a garment imho.

wibblewobbleball · 17/06/2022 19:10

I'm wearing a line midi skirts with cotton t shirts. Chin rub shorts on underneath if I go out of the house!

Singleandproud · 17/06/2022 19:16

Linen dresses from Next. T-shirt style dresses from Mountain Warehouse. MW is underrated their normal clothes are brilliant, good value for money and not at all outdoorsy.

londonmummy1966 · 17/06/2022 19:16

Get what you'd normally wear in black in navy instead and it works. Today I'm wearing navy culottes from Uniqlo, a navy sleeveless drapey linen jumper over a white long sleeved cotton t shirt (very tight fitting to avoid bulk)

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/06/2022 19:19

I’m a tad smaller than a 16, but do feel the heat.
Currently wearing a long, loose-fitting dress - between calf and ankle length - with just below elbow length sleeves. It’s in a light, crinkly seersucker-type pure cotton, hang straight up after washing, no ironing needed!

Bought 2 last year from Poetry, not cheap but both a godsend when it’s hot.

Having lived for many years in the Middle East, where it really was hideously hot for much of the year, I would always go for thin, loose, covered-up cotton or linen, or a mix. Nothing tight, absolutely nothing synthetic. And preferably light colours, that reflect the heat - def. no black, which absorbs it.
I would wear this sort of thing even when a much younger size 10.

Single mum and totally broke here so I ordered a few maxi and midi dresses from Shein which is not somewhere I would normally use but the price drew me in! And I’m actually really pleasantly surprised. They’re lovely.

also got a Couple of sets of loose patterned dungarees with pockets to wear with vest tops and a couple of pairs of loose floaty trousers.

I know it’s fast fashion and probably very frowned upon on here but needs must for me at the moment.

CalmerChamaeleon · 17/06/2022 19:28

@Mummysgonetobed How does Shein come up for sizing? I always find I need to go up a size with cheaper brands so haven't ordered from there yet. I can't be bothered with faffing around with returns!

AnnieSnap · 17/06/2022 19:28

I wear whatever I like. 16/18 is a perfectly normal dress size. Average actually. Just wear something you love that is cool and enjoy the weather!

AnnieSnap · 17/06/2022 19:30

I’m most comfortable in a loose dress in the heat.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 17/06/2022 19:31

A polka dot black and white midi skirt yesterday with chub rub shorts and a Kharki cotton t-shirt. I wore black sandals with it.

Today I wore beige 3/4 length cargo trousers and a black band t-shirt, but I didn't have any meetings! I wore my Vans as my sandals rubbed yesterday.

catfunk · 17/06/2022 19:31

Lots of long kaftan type cotton dresses from H&M, linen tunics, chub rub shorts under and Birkenstocks

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 17/06/2022 19:33

This is the dress I mentioned.

Looks much nicer on the website (on a 5 foot 10 size 8 model of course) but that pic wouldn’t upload.

Denim shorts and a top normally!

I order a 0xl in the plus size stuff and it fits me, sometimes a bit big and I’m a normal size 16 in the likes of m&s.

@asteri76 where is the blue and white one from please? I have to have long sleeves due to psoriasis and lots of summer dresses are sleeveless

actiongirl1978 · 17/06/2022 19:41

I'm a different size OP but surprised with all of the long dresses. I can't bear to have my legs covered in the heat. I always go for knee length dresses with a cap sleeve.

I buy good brands like Cos and Boden, through ebay.

OompaLoompaa · 17/06/2022 19:45

I find the longer dresses cooler and I can sit anyway I like without worrying about looking decent.

bloodyunicorns · 17/06/2022 19:50

A beach dress from Yours and flip flops. Very cool!

TheHumanSatsuma · 17/06/2022 19:56

I’m 18/20.
Loose pure linen top, cotton leggings or linen shirt and loose leg linen trousers.

Stoic123 · 17/06/2022 19:57

Came on to recommend H&M dresses - specifically the wide cotton dresses (both black and blue stripe) that @catfunk has posted (middle pic). Was size 16 in very hot lockdown 1 and wore a variation of these dresses from H&M. Cool and flattering.
