Size 16-18 what are you wearing in this heat?

I realised I looked awful today in black 3/4 trousers, pink linen-mix T-shirt and Fit Flops sandals. Not at all summery with the black trousers and boring overall.

For anyone a size 16-18 what are you wearing to keep cool? I’m particularly interested in skirts and long dresses- I never wear these as I can never find anything that suits me.

Looking at High St retailers clothing, mid-range.

Silk wide leg trousers and white cotton shirt fucking heaven

Decafflatteplease · 17/06/2022 19:58

Following for ideas

I'm a bit bigger at an 18-20 but living in floaty harem pants with a loose t-shirt at the moment, or a vest and longline cardigan if it's a bit cooler.

Or maxi dresses from jojomamanbebe they are cut for maternity and nursing though but my tummy is pretty big so they fit ok 🤣

Same as above but from frugi. They do knee length ones I wear with seasalt cropped leggings.

RosieRoww · 17/06/2022 20:06

Wrap dresses, linen dresses, cotton leggings with a oversized linen shirts
Somehow I stopped wearing skirts as I'm feeling like it makes me look twice as big (mommy tummy 🤦🏻‍♀️).

I am a 14/16 & have just been to Matalan & Asda & got some really nice stuff. I brought 16 as for holiday
My size 8 daughter wants to pinch some items
we are both 5ft 10

Coffeeandchoc · 17/06/2022 20:07

This dress from matalan is lovely, i where chub rub shorts underneath. www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2903997_c211/green-puff-sleeve-mini-dress-green

Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz · 17/06/2022 20:08

I was recently in vegas and fully recommend snag tights chub rub shorts for under a dress

Coffeeandchoc · 17/06/2022 20:08

And just got these trousers from sainsbury's which I'm wearing with a cream tshirt tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Paisley-Print-Woven-Drapey-Trousers/140384958-MultiColoured?searchTerm=:newArrivals&searchProduct=

PineappleSun · 17/06/2022 20:27

I'm a huge fan of drapey jersey trousers, pockets, no chub rub and I feel summery and smart. Detest my arms so wore these trousers from Tu and a plain navy cotton top from Yours with 3/4 sleeves.

Badger1970 · 17/06/2022 20:33

I've got some really nice cool dresses from M & S x Ghost, and loads of linen dresses from Next - they're £26, wash well, iron well and are a really nice shape. I did get a couple of linen A line dresses from Seasalt but DH said I looked like I was Amish wearing them and just needed a floral headscarf Hmm

Sickoffamilydrama · 17/06/2022 20:38

I'm a size 16 (maybe even an 18) on bottom and waist but sometimes a 14 on top. Today was a Zara T shirt and linen skirt, I've also got some great cotton dresses from Libby Loves and one from Hush.
I've got a nice dress that was given to me that from Boden it has pockets and is cotton.
I'm hoping I can wear my Zara shorts tomorrow with a raincoat!

Zara has some nice t shirts with gappy arms which are really cool and let the air in.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 17/06/2022 21:00

18-20 and I'm wearing lots of thin floaty dresses from shein curve. I agree with a poster above about the fast fashion aspect but selfishly I'm also broke and they cater well for my body shape.
I need dresses that pull in at the waist then flare out directly below that don't stick to my spare tyre! I'm sick of buying clothes in a plus size 18/20 that are tight and clingy. I also can't wear a high neck or puffy sleeves so I'm limited!

I like this one www.pocketsforwomen.co.uk/product/12878/bahamas-womens-uv-protective-sleeveless-dress-navy. My MIL got this one and really rated it. It's apparently 'UV protective' (whatever that means!)

Well that's my new favourite website! How did I not know about it? www.pocketsforwomen.co.uk

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 17/06/2022 22:27

Wide legged linen trousers and Hush t-shirts

asteri76 · 17/06/2022 22:29

sunshine271 · 17/06/2022 22:30

I'm a 20 and today I wore a blue/green plaid shift dress in a very fine linen from Foil. Rest of the week I wore the Tallahassee dress from Weird Fish (I have three) and one day I wore floaty culottes from White Stuff and a fine knit short sleeved cardigan. I own two or three pairs of black trousers but they never see the light of day between April and October. When it's not too hot I have several pairs of navy cropped trousers (Roman do a very lightweight summer version) which I wear with smartish tunic tops mostly from Monsoon.

Charity shops mainly @topdot so not very helpful sorry! Or Sainsbury's last year. Also Amazon are ok too not the best quality but fine for round the house and school run.

I'm wondering if harem isnt the right word for them 🤔 but sort of baggy elasticated waist pull on type things with cuffed ankles if that makes sense

This! I adore it and it's wonderfully light and airy

onlythreenow · 18/06/2022 02:06

I'm in NZ and I live in loose linen dresses in summer. Natural fabrics are best, and dresses or skirts are much cooler than trousers.

topdot · 18/06/2022 07:34

Thank you @Decafflatteplease

thebear1 · 18/06/2022 09:19

I struggle with summer dressing, I panic buy things and end up disliking them. The only staple is black linen trousers for work. I do have some long cotton skirts I wear with a more fitted t-shirt which look okay.
